I wonder how the Blitzer Beetle body fits on the GF01TR chassis.. I much prefer that Sand Scorcher face vs the regular Beetle facia.  If too long, I may have to do a Sil-80 mod..

Goodbye back tyres 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻, that’s the last time you’ll see them like that 😆

Edit :- Just keep an eye on the suspension arm screw pins as the have a habit of backing out.

I don't plan to run these wheels; they'll be for shelf duty only. I am getting another set for running.

All but 2 of the screw pins have been replaced with shafts and e-clips.

Cheers!

I am new to the Tamiyaclub and this is my 1st post. As a kid, I had the TAISAN STAR CARD Porsche 911 GT2 - and wrecked the body after a few years.

Today, nearly 24 years later, I completed the new body. I was lucky to buy the original decals on eBay. To cut and apply the stickers took me around 4 hours. So proud of the result.

That look s absolutely stunning and yes, the Taisan Porsche is a decaling nightmare! Great first post, welcome to TC! 👍

@JennyMo ‘made’ one fit a WR02, check out her showroom there’s some fantastic stuff in there,

@Grastens also did a brilliant job with a Lancia body…

I had some Silicone on the go from yesterday so set about sticking some HPI ‘vintage’ tyres to the ebay alloy rims.

I was concerned when I dry fitted them that they didn’t sit right but that was before I realised that the outside edge of the tyre sits over the rim of the wheel to give the illusion of a wider profile tyre which is why I got them in the first place. It should suit the look of the MK1 Escort body they are eventually destined for…… I hope…

These are the tyres on the HPI wheels, they have a smaller out side bead to give the large sidewall impression.

*edit, looking at yours again, have you cut off the bead on one side? I’m a bit confused how they are fitting over normal wheels and having the sidewall not distorted

As my wheels aren't HPI, I took a chance on them fitting. I haven't cut anything off the tyres at all, the insides were just the same a normal low profile tyre with a small rebate that sits on the edge of the rim. But the outside had a lip on it that sat over the outside edge of the rim. If I tucked the lip inside the rim the tread lost its shape  (looking like a flat tyre) whereas with the lip over the edge the tread was nice and flat how it should be if that makes sense @mtbkym01 ?

Yeah, the ones I use is like $50 for a pack of 4. It's dirt cheap stuff, but as you said, it's functional and has been very reliable so why not?  Of course it would be cool to use some fancy high-end $350 servo for vanity factor, but the M38 chassis is enclosed/bump steer fever.. why would I use that when a $12 no-brand servo can do the same thing..  I have like 20 of them and none has failed me yet and very accurate performance on the cars.

@DeadMeat666 Nice looking car you got there!

There is one thing I detest about tamiya steering horn namely the lunchbox style but it's also common in WR?? And boomerang chassis. That white grey plastic is difficult to thread the screw in the proper way the instructions suggest. I ordered 2 extra strong reinforced plastic horns fro lunchbox. 2 outer holes only and aluminum horn, might be a L CENTER R hole pattern or LR only. Not sure which exactly yet but it looks like sabre only uses 1 center hole Pin?? I can drill and tap the 2nd black plastic horn a center hole, I cracked 1 outer hole making it questionable to use on the lunchbox now. It might potentially get some use on the sabre.

Built the Sand Scorcher. It was my first SRB and really interesting how it goes together. I still have to fit the radio gear and paint the body, so expect to have this done by xmas.

My first (only) SRB chassis took me days to build, well done doing it in one. And then the SS body took me over a year to get finished... in the end I outsourced it.

IIRC there was a SS 'Finished Body' available back in 2010 (ish), in hindsight I was a fool not to pick one up.

Installed light buckets on the Lunchbox body shells of the kids...

Now, small comment, having a reflector around the led lights make them really lightning the path. I did a small try yesterday evening outside, and it works surprisingly well.

There are some Tamiyas that are must have in my mind and an SRB is definitely one of them, especially the Sand Scorcher 👏

For me I’d say just out of basic reliable fun, Blackfoot Xtreme and Lunchbox.

Very closely followed by Stadium Thunder and WW2.

All easy to maintain, robust and fun to run.

Cool, I’ve been visualising Mud Blaster that are still floating around on that same chassis but with a Quad Trax body on would look quite smart I think, (pretty much a Bush Devil 2)

As if I need any more project ideas circling around in my head 😉

@berman

Do you think you could share the colour you used on the swift, that looks so good!

Small possibility I have some shells on the way again!

Thanks

nick

Hey Nick, it's Ps61 Metallic Orange, backed with Ps12 silver, then PS5 black. 👍

Best of Luck, and share some pics when you paint it 🙂

Took the F104 and A60 Volvo with me when I was out working on my 1:1 truck in case I needed to take a break and have some fun. The road I was on is barely suitable for a real car so no way I could drive the f1, but I tried anyway :D. Was doing surprisingly well, of course right up until I wasn’t. About 30mph into curb. Then I learned my dump truck goes 19mph, no crashes there, seems it can handle rough terrain a bit better. Came home and fixed the f1 up and gave it some new tires, then finished the f103 (at least till the esc and hop ups get here).
