Went for an after work run with the Hornet, after almost a week away from RC... just to find out that all of my batteries are unable to take a full charge  even the Hornet with its 2WD, simple gearbox and light weight was running on half the power, or even less. By now, my top performer battery is a good old Nicad from 1995! Which means it's really time for me to get a couple new ones... I'll put these old ones aside for now, until I feel like taking them apart to salvage the good cells from the dead ones and maybe even try and make some new Frankenstein monster batteries. To be fair, they did take a lot of abuse in the 4 years I've had them, so I guess I can't be too disappointed after all.

Finished a L&L models Sapphire Cosworth body.

Not happy with it, decals too transparent, thin and delaminating.

Not a patch on their RS500, but still looks alright from a distance 🙄

Yeah the L and L decals are a joke at best imo for most of what they produce. Still looks good in the picture. 👍

Front should line up perfectly. The rear holes will be an inch or so behind where the TT02 mounts are though. So might need either new holes drilled at the rear or possibly TA03F rear body mounts which are ' L ' shaped.

James.

thank you for the reply, i ee what you mean with the L shaped mounts. its likely out of range for the extenstions on the TT02. though i did order an extra set of parts that include  body posts and the extenders. dont know if they will work until i see it visually. id rather not redrill the holes though i havent tried gluing/sealing lexan  holes ever. i do try to keep the tt02 chassis body posts to accept every shell i own if possible. i might need to revisit that habit if the evo7 body holes are out of range for some light body post tinkering. currently using the self tapping screws though i have M3 long screws that might work if i end up having to sway out the rear posts too often.

@svenb what yellow did you use for the cowsorth? im trying to aim for a similar yellow that has that light orangish hue.

Started building my Avante, I'll throw up a build thread in due course (although I'm concerned it won't be up to the same standard as some of the awesome build threads we have here).

I also learnt about the differences between the 2011 and Black Special, I didn't realise there were any until I saw the different blister packs. Fortunately I want the original build experience and don't need the Black Special included Hop-Ups so I wasn't bummed out. I assume the BS steering upgrade is just the Egress version and I'll be building one of those soon anyway. Ball diffs, meh, I've built dozens of them and I quite like the standard Avante centre diff.

Those wheels looks like oversized slick F1 tyres :), first thing that struck me was Comical Herbie.

Looks Great

Thanks!  Actually they are for R31House's comical F1 cars they sold 4-5 years ago.  I was really never into Beetles (more a Minicooper guy) until literally a few months ago when something clicked inside of me that suddenly made me gravitate towards these Tamiya Beetles.. so I have no knowledge of Herbie besides seeing the cover of the book long long time ago which I never read nor the movie I never watched.     So in a way this is just my interpretation of what a club racer Bug might look like..

Sorry to hear about your batteries, Ferruz!   But seems you got a good life out of them!   Usually Nicd sport packs die in like 5-7 years time for me as I can't tray discharge like the side by sides we use to use in the 90's touring car days.  At least with NiMH as long as I don't  discharge too far it will last much longer as they tend to stay balanced longer atleast while the individual cells are holding a sufficient charge.

For me today mostly house chores.. starting with washing our white fence in the backyard.. not looking forward to that..got a bunch of things to do today.   Hope to drive my ClubBug a couple times during breaks.  :D

Only painting figure left and i will let my daughter at six do part off that as i see Tamiya made that part easy. Starting to get good on those decals with needle, hair-dryer and tape, this time i did not need needle (for air bubles). The blitz does not fo it justice ofc but then you know i aint trying to hide something. I did not use sandpaper on lexan body egde either but i Did not plan to be so picky on this one ad it is for my daughter to play with (i am not saying im as good as you guys ofc, just saying i can see prrsonal progress). Next kit for me will be Subaru Imprezaspacer.png

Got the 1st car load of boxes out of the storage unit we have had since January this year, which is pretty exciting to me anyway.

Last in was my sons Lego and my Tamiya 💥

Quite a few runs to do over the next 10 days during the notice period, but it’s all good 😊

Not easy to get an even coverage.

I used two tins of ps6 on my Daytona Thunder because of patches and the yellow on a Opel V8 coupe was a mare to match up to the decals, had to mix ps19 and white to match.

After what feels like ages getting along on hex nuts -two on each side, to be tightened every run or two- I have finally sorted out some proper locknuts for my gold pan RC10. It was about time, though I won't lie it took two trips to Home Depot to find the right ones no matter the research  (no biggie, since I go there often for work anyway).

Of all the possible assortment, the right ones for me were obviously the fugliest and cheapest looking, so I decided to give them a couple coats of metallic gold to better match the colours of the car. No sealant applied yet, since it's stored away somewhere, but I'll get around to it eventually. Felt good to open the toolbox and tinker around, but man I really can't wait to have my place back and restore a semblance of normality. The lack of a proper work space -and even more, having 60% of my RC stuff stored away in three different places- is really starting to take a toll on how I perceive the hobby

...maybe I'll reward myself with a new kit once this is finally over -and the finances are a bit replenished-

Added a TB Evo foam bumper to my TM E4JS. Dressed my son in his bargain £1 Vision costume and half way through making a Demogorgon ( from The Stranger Things)  mask for my 8 year old . Will finish it tomorrow, amazing what can be down with left over cardboard, a glue gun and some paint 😂😂👍

Nothing exciting today as I’ve been doing house chores most of the day in prep for winter, but I’m done now (well, for today)  and after cleaning up my RC shop, decided to install turnbuckles on my latest GF01 as the ball joints cups were scratched up from the many removal I had to do with my plastic jaw long nose during initial set up.

The chassis was tweaked for some reason, but drives perfectly now… with fresh ball cups. :D

You need to do a panel line wash to bring out the details on that mask/helmet.

Went to the Halloween parade.

And then onto the important stuff once the kids had gone to sleep. Further inspection, cleaning, repair and tweaking to my badly trashed and neglected TT-01 (R).

This car had been taken to the beach and did not get a proper clean down until now. The 22mm screws holding the top of the rear left hub had been rusted solid and in the process of taking it out, I damaged the head so I replaced them with 2 of the 3x22mm Low Friction Shafts 54395 I actually got for the Holiday Buggy. I just ordered another set as well as I counted the HB needle 6, so all should turn out well. The axle also rusted to the bearings and barely turns so those are also cleaned up. I think the rust is what caused the drive cup to crack and the dog bone had been twisted 90 degrees. So got to get some metal drive cups and universals on my next order from PJ.

Replaced the Core Racing 23x2T with a Absima Eco-Trust 18T. Leaving the heatsink out for the moment until I get the thermal pads.

The hot glue from the rear diff were cleaned out and replaced with diff putty.

Replaced the oil in the rear CVA's with #600 blue from the #400 yellow.

What I forgotten to do when putting the electronics back together is to install a high torque servo saver. Next time then...

Took the car out for a midnight run to try out the new motor. Not sure what happened but there was no reverse so took the car back in to check the ESC setting. Switch it off and it went beyond full power! Luckily I had it in my hands if not it will be a runaway! Quickly pulled the battery. Confirmed it is turned off and tried connecting the battery again, spark and beyond full power again.

Disconnect the motor and plugged the battery in again, ESC started smoking! Few days ago I said this will be my "go-to" in the future, perhaps not! Luckily I took it in when I noticed it is not reversing.

spacer.png

EDIT: Took the thing apart, is a 60A/320A ESC supposed to have so little in it??? Bearing in mind that there is probably nothing under that heat sink at all. Seems like a lot of empty air in the box.

dropped by LHS, did a visual check on the 3 yellow PS paints in stock. bought a few small token items that will be useful: sandpapre grit sponge 1500, 3200 grit and HPD insta-cure blue bottle (super thin). i really dont like the conventional plastic cement i used back in the day for static models. hopefully i do better with this one. i think this glue is also a decent choice for gluing rims??

That is just CA or super glue right? Totally different thing from cement and you definitely do not use cement for gluing tyres. CA is the one normally used.
