Just got an email from Fusion to say my TD4 order is in progress🤞🏻

I spoke with Joanne yesterday, they had a hiccough (not their fault) but back on track...

Got the Mk2 Escort body drilled and masked ready for painting.  I had a few different ideas for paint schemes but I think I'm going with the box art on this one.

The Tamiya body?

No exciting pictures, but I changed the pinion on my MF01x 1/14 truck from 16 to 13. I had read they could take a 14T pinion, but I was able to fit a 13T with a tiny mod. I don't think a 12 would work.

This should reduce speed by around 20% whilst upping the torque by the same amount. The wheels are 82 mm, so far larger than the 60 mm that came with the chassis, dropping from 16T to 13T balances some of the tire increase to keep the gearing more in line with what the car was designed for.

It's still too fast with the torque tuned on the flat concrete, but I like the power it's got for thick grass, and rougher stuff. It's fun to see it plough over anything. I'm not sure what it is now, it's not a scaler, not a monster, not a stadium, it's a racing 4x4. I do miss the blue/white body, so I may look for another! I also need an add an Edgarmon.

In more annoying news, I took out my Midnight Pumpkin QD for a drive in the rain, and shattered the Orange Roll bar. I have ordered some plastic cement, but looks like I'll be getting a white one after all.

@Nikko85 Ouch on the roll bar.  :(

So I sent a offer on  a used green Radioshack version and maybe I can get the Pumpkin on a GF01 as well.  Mine will be a military theme and be driven by Billy with a camo helmet. :D  .. well, that's if I can get a hold of one.

In other news, I was thinking about getting a couple of Miniyonku's to fill the wall gaps in my new downsized RC shop, but I decided to get Tamiya's 1:35 US military plastic models instead.  I got 4 variations of Willy Jeeps, 5 tanks and will just use them as display NIB.

I'll be going to Japan after covid settles so it will be better for me to pick and choose the Miniyonku's there.. I don't know anything about them.. and cheaper too, probably.

Received screw bag C so u can finish the overhaul of the Lunchbox. When cleaning the gearbox a few days ago, I lost the center pin for the diff, stupid.

Reassembled with a 12 years old Sports Tuned.

And installed back onto the chassis.

I just love doing these little fixes, mods, repairs and general maintenance to my Tamiya. At least it makes sitting out a winter gale more enjoyable.

Hats off to you sir, for all the hours and effort you put into this garage

You're welcome. Glad it's gone to a good home. Missing it already...

Awesome! I am looking for a green one too, either to become a spare QD shell, or a spare GF01 shell.
I just wish they had also liberally borrowed the Clod and Blackfoot whilst they were at it!

Yeah, I don't have much knowledge of the QD nor RadioShack versions so I'm just playing it by ear.     I think on mine I'm going to drill a hole in the middle of the hood and run 3 body posts as I do on my comical Beetles.

A Blitzer Beetle and a WW2, not the most daring or exciting but I like them a lot having had  literally a dozen or more before of these but never NIB.

Part 2 of today's work

Tested a few weeks ago that the 12mm (length) wheel extenders will work to convert the strange fittings for the Lunchbox to normal 12mm hex, I put them on to fit the Absima AT3.4 Wheels + Tyres I received a few days ago.

spacer.png

Old vs new. Pretty pleased that even the offset seems the same.

spacer.png

Got to love it when everything arrived in time to complete the job.

spacer.png

Gave it a test drive, works well and wheelie fine.

I thought I was all done, but before bed managed to finish the decaling for the MF01x truck. This is a classis yellow Radioshack 4x4, but I added a few more sponsor stickers and some black stripes just to make it all pop. Cutting the stripes to fit inside the chrome side bars was a pain!

HD4bVmD.jpg

I tried to get decals that matched the current ones (i.e. black, red, yellow) or a little complimentary blue. The rear blue/yellow shock sticker is original.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this truck now. I'll take it to the park tomorrow, and see what that 13T pinion does. It seems noisier, but I think the mesh is fine. The gears are a little chamfered end on, which makes judging the mesh quite hard. I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully with a 20% speed reduction I can go up again to the Torque Tuned for some speeding through rough terrain.

Third update of the day, did quite a lot today which is unusual as weekends are usually kids duty.

Cleaned up the front shocks, drained the oil. Boy! They are filthy! Changed the piston to the 1 hole and refilled. Adjusted the length to 75mm that is recommended by many. Replaced the excessively long (twice as long as required) springs with the rear springs from the DT-03 CVA set. Notice the new front axles as the old one still has the bearings and bits of the old wheel stuck on.

spacer.png

Reason for the rush to finish this is so that I can try the new wheels on.

spacer.png

They are Medial Pro Trace 2.8 Tyres Mounted On Addict 2.85 Black Wheels. They are exactly the same size as the Absima AT3.4 Wheels + Tyres on the rear, not sure how the wheels are sized. Note that the steering/toe is way off as I need to pack the axle out with whatever convenient, bushings of mismatching sizes. The wheels are in fact on bushings right now until I get the required bearings. The steering angle will be reset once I got all the correct bits. I also got shorter 54154 OTW which should remove the need to pack the wheel out although that may mess with the offset and cause the wheel to hit the suspension.

Made a start on the TT02 GT MK2 this morning, feels good to have something on the bench again 😁

I was intending to pick up a Terra Scorcher from this Hobby Shop partly using a Voucher from last Christmas. But after stumbling across a Black Friday deal online for a TS somewhere else for less than what I would have to pay on top of the voucher, it felt like I was throwing my voucher away.

The GT is a car I’ve liked the look of since first seeing it’s release and has been on the list for a while. As the TTO2R I’ve ordered seems to stuck in Belgium, at least I’ll be able to use this chassis as a template for a MK 1 Escort body that has been sitting around far to long as well. This TT will built virtually stock, bar a few ball bearings for now as I’ve got no idea what they are like. I’ll also probably put my unused Flysky GT2 radio gear in it so I’ve got something for the BIL to have a go with if he wants when they visit.

I actually do like the box art on the GT, but I’m 99% sure about the Escort so I’m thinking I’ll do that first.

I spilt White Spirits on my work mat and ruined it recently so I’m now using a cut down bath mat that had a big hole in it instead.

I’ve put AW grease in the front Diff, and Ceramic grease in the rear as I seem to recall somewhere that a stiffer front Diff seems to help these things.

Reunited with my Big Boss today after what felt like too long. There's already plenty of snow up north, so I went for the first winter outing even if it was already dark. The new batteries sure do give more punch to the motor, and to the lights as well. They are way brighter now which made for an enjoyable night run.

Completed my Thanksgiving TT-02B speed build. Pretty standard save for ball bearings, motor mount, and driveshaft hop ups. Also threw in a Reedy Radon 19T. Definitely needs an upgrade to brushless power soon...

Finished my Lunchbox at last. I'm rather pleased with the paint job, the purple contrasts perfectly against the yellow and orange.

Before stickers

Finished!

TT Chassis now in a rolling state, I set it at the 257mm wheelbase, but looking at it with the cut Escort body 251mm would be better.

A step in the right direction at least anyway.
