Started rebuild of my Savage 3 speed today. Thought it must be time after 80ltrs of trouble free running (read thrashing). Got some new Savage Flux wheels and tyres and few other bits that have worn to the point they need to be replaced.

Have the Baja Beetle body almost ready for paint. That'll make it a Monster Savage Beetle :P

Stripped it down, then spent most of today removing all the horrible purple anodising (i dont like purple much, and it doesn't go well with the new blue engine), then polishing up all the alloy bits to a nice mirror finish. Tommorow is all the plastics into the dishwasher while the wife is at work (shhhh.... I won't tell if you don't). Can't start the reassembly until the odd sized 6x10x3 bearings get here for the steering.

And the best bit... I have a dogbone twisting OS30VG engine ready to bolt in replacing the stock FS25 (which still runs good with high compression), and a change of gearing to make best use of the higher torque of the OS30.

So, What Have You Done Today?

Today I took the longboard I won on eBay out for a test drive.

It's actually for the wife as she enjoyed having a go on my nephews board a few weeks back. Maybe not the best plan as she is a bit accident prone and has already managed to fall off it in the garden!

Anyway "What's the RC link" I hear you cry? Well I'm planning to rig this upto my Wraith and have a little husky team action... 2 hobbies from my youth in one! You can expect an update from my local A&E department shortly :) Now I'm approaching 39 I don't seem to bounce as much as I use to.

Today I bought a Durango Dex410V3 with 6.5brushless motor, Sanwa M11 2.4ghz, etc. My LHS has ready spares for Durango & Yokomo mainly. Spent US$2000 to get it ready to run. The last 1/10 off road I drove was an Avante in 1989. phew... 

Today I stripped down a rather sad looking Dyna Storm I got off evilBay, to find the rear suspension blocks trashed the diff and slipper gumed up with adhesive

Yesterday added more coats of base colour to my Willy 2 body, and roll bar - I'm now on the lookout for an airbrush compressor, costing me a fortune in compressed air :(

Dave give one of those compressors you see in the likes of Shell garages a go - work well .

Years ago I used my airbrush quite a bit to restore vintage wooden golf clubs - I remember getting fed up with the propellant cans then, I even resorted to using a spare car tyre which gave great volume but always ran the risk of moisture.

Plenty of compressors on eBay - missed a good deal this morning, not quick enough

Hot date at the post office; took her home with me:

A good starting point for a nice little project; with some freshening she will be a stunning runner (I hope). In the meantime I could just get some electronics and bash about, but for now it will be on the shelf as I finish my classes...

Last night i discovered nearly all the original electrics that came with my WW2 were goosed   I wired the silver can direct to a battery pack and it sounded tired -_- so that hit the trash can, quickly followed by the unresponsive Sanwa servo and the RipMax ESC (the ESC might have been OK but it had seen a few repairs with previous owner so just not worth the hassle of risking it).

My TL-01 drifter was robboed of its TEU-101, the spares box found a good silver can and a new Hobbyking servo - job done :D

Just got two leaky Kyosho rear shocks to sort now and the bodywork :(

Today I've fitted a Kamtec Rough Rider shell to a Hornet chassis. I'm liking the budget looks so far...

Just need a decent ESC now to give it a proper test run.

That looks to be a great fit - nice job.

Looks great! Aluminum or silver? I love either one, really.

It is more like what I am doing right now, but I am replacing the bushings on my Losi Micro-T with bearings that arrived tonight. My Tamiyas' c-clips have nothing on these! Grrrr

Edit: And just lost a clip into the carpet... Bought a screw set today...

This evening I applied my newly-arrived custom vinyl decals to my Mad Hopper.

Here it is in it's "tracksuit and trainers":

...And here it is in its "dinner jacket and dress shoes":

Once again Steviedee has shown himself to be a master of the vinyl arts, having taken a rough idea of mine and turned it into a set of decals that could have come from the factory. The text and fonts are inspired by the Mad Bull and Grasshopper decals, subtly altered so as not to incur the wrath of the copyright cops.
