A very simple theme. French blue backed with White, all Core RC . Wheels Escort, wood stickers to do!!!!!
made a bit of a ….up of drawing black cut lines on the body prior to painting. Some areas seemed clearer from the inside so I drew on the inside but forgot to wipe it off thinking it was on the spray film. Ooops!

So I was able to barely fit the HighTorque servo saver.. very tight fit.  :D  Honestly if I’m going to drive this car more it needs a faster servo and a smaller pinion for more punch.  It’s currently running a black can.

But for the time being it did well after the initial setup.  Going to work on the body later today or maybe later in the week.

Update. Decided to cut and paint the body today.  Will decal tomorrow..

Lined up Edgarmons' 1/14 collection.

UkAyI9B.jpeg

Left to Right: GF01, MF01x, QD buggy, MF01x, QD monster.

All are about 175 to 190 mm wheelbase, so around 1/14. Amazing just how much wheel size totally changes these cars, ranging from 58 mm to 115. Middle one is a work in progress, but rest are really done.

Swapped out a yucky TZ super stock motor for a (almost) period brushless set up on my TA05MS.

Love to know a bit more about the motor, very little information on the internet about it!

Been off the forum for the past month or so due to life taking over (quite abruptly and intensely as it does sometimes, lol). It tool me several hours just to catch up with the last 20 or so pages of this very thread! wow guys you all progress super fast on your projects :)

Lots of great stuff, loving the looks of your Terra Scorcher @Re-Bugged! Quite discrete if compared to mine ahah!

I basically had close to zero time for RC whatsoever, but managed to work a little more on the Lancia and also had a couple brief escapades with the Manta Ray in the past few days. Nothing intense or postal racing oriented, just some free running close to home to stretch her legs a little

On the Lancia front, I finally got crackin' on the driver cockpit, as well as working some more on the body. It's amazing the amount of detail you can add to these on road cars, almost never-ending!

I assembled, filled in and sanded all the components of the cockpit first, then washed and cleaned it and applied the primer. I also started painting it but have no pics of that yet.

As for the car, I finally cut down the body posts, ordered some windshield wipers for it, started off on the panel lines (not an easy task!) And tried to give some dignity to the rear tow ring.

I can't wait to be done with all this and to see this car come to life again -I already have a spare receiver for it, just not with me at the moment.

@silvertriple Epic! I said a few times that seeing your model develop was making me want to dip my toe back in to 3D software. Seeing the outcome has kind of scared me off ;) Huge effort but looks totally worth it. Congrats!

YEs, amazing isn't it. When I got the two Street Combers recently they actually looked different in size just due to the wheel variation. Great collection there though, they look super cool. I bet Edgarmon is chuffed but probably doesn't know which one to drive first ;)

Welcome back @Ferruz!!    Cars look great.

GL with your interior projects on the Lancia.  The parting lines look superb!  It's those details that make all the difference.

Thanks!  I was hoping to work on it some more this afternoon, but my HotShot took a bit longer to set up (mainly forcing the servo saver to fit and alignment) so ran out of time.

@topforcein is that 3M Di-Noc you used?  I use to use that stuff all the time on my 1:1 car's interior bits when they were super popular.   Your car looks good with lots of character with the overlay.

I like the "scaring" part of it. When you start this kind of stuff, you know when you start, but never when you will end... I have a good sense of 3D volumes, schematic and plans, and I'm quite sure it helps a lot: when looking at a part, I would be able to derive plans, perspectives or 3D volumes in my mind easily. I just had to learn to use Fusion360, somehow, although I did not really made 3D modeling much before that in CAD...

In any case, when you see the things coming together, this is rewarding. That being said, a comment I received a lot from some people (who are used to do this much frequently of for more longer than I am) is that I probably not started by an easy car, and that means a rough start (and some of the same people are pretty impressed by what I achieved already)...

Pulled the trigger on some rear suspension arms and front shocks for my stalled vintage Sand Scorcher project and then a ‘P’ parts sprue from JK.

Figured in both time a money a little here and there is the best way forward 👍

I would agree on all those points and especially on your last one, not an easy model to build at all. I worked in 3D production for a number of years, mostly modelling rather than animation and I specialised in geometry modelling more than organic. But a lot of what I crested could be modelled by eye or by nearest cm or more. I assume you are having to measure very accurately then model as accurately or the whole thing falls apart so to speak!

Well, when you see the volumes to be produced together easily, the modeling part is definitely the easy thing. Measure remains the difficulty (and not all measures are difficult, some are very easy, while some are particularly challenging). That said, once you shuffle the pieces together and take the support of another part to design the next one, it is really easier, as there is a lot of measures that are dependant or derived from another part: that really ease the work. Until this project, all the parts I designed were done separately. I believe I could do quicker for another chassis, as I learned a lot doing the Nichimo. There is definitely things I would do differently if I restarted this project...

Pulling off the stickers on my Tyco Bandit, in readiness to paint.

Also, boxed up a few RC cars and parts for eBay sales, to make some space in the house.

I'm sticking with the five I've got for the foreseeable future, but will slowly upgrade, perhaps try our brushless on the GFO1 (the MF01x are way too fast already) run and fix new parts. Not looking for bling, but perhaps swapping out self tapping to hex, aluminium drive shaft etc as things break. I will also keep scouring eBay for Radio Shacks to get some spare bodies too. Is there anyone who would take the chassis if I do this? I hate waste, but I just can't have a growing list of projects.

My project to teach kids engineering with RC cars has also been greenlighted. With any luck I'll order some tools, so can have a workstation in my office - where I can also fix my stuff after hours too.

My wife has been remarkably cool with RC tools and cars on the bedroom floor, but with a baby on the way I think it's protocol put those things back where they came from or so god help me...

@Nikko85 I’ve seen there are a few of the Radio Shack Surf trucks on eBay. The actual sale price is cheap but shipping is generally prohibitive as most are in the US and I’m in Oz but YMMV. Worth a browse probably. I’ve purchased one more today from a guy local-ish. It’s the Nikko Unimog Dakar Rally.

That looks cool. There was a wired Unimog that looked incredible, but was only 20 cm long.

Do have a look at prices before you chop up the Nikko, some of them go for good money or might be great cars in their own right.
