Today I added a very special Tamiya to my collection.

This TA05 belonged to my friend Mike Alan. Mike was the TCS 1998 FWD champion. He raced this car in 2006 TCS GT2.

Here it is at the race in 2006. The all-white NSX.

Mike passed away of cancer last year, November 22nd. He's very much missed.

9 month build, wife did most of it to be honest..

Probably needs new bearings and oil as seems to be quite noisy.

Congratulations 🥳. Just like Tamiya another bottomless money pit. 🤑 Seriously though enjoy them whilst they’re young. One minute they are like this the next thing you know they are 33 and 30!!!!!

How does the tt02 dust cover stay on? Velcro tape?

Yes Velcro tape.  It is currently on my other car and may need to pick one up for the buggy. Cost for cover was around US$12. Cover is standard in the TT-02 Freelander quad track.  Instructions noted this is for Cars and not buggies

I believe some blue anodised nappies/diapers can be picked up from Plaza Japan to really get the mods going!

Are you sure you got that from a reputable dealer? That's not a proper Tamiya blue damper cap

got a little bit more done on my hybrid Lunchbox - dyed the arms black, fitted the tyres and body mounts and finished off the gearbox.

I need to tinker with the springs and oil, as the front is far too hard and the rear a bit soft.

They noise gets worse, trust me.

Also remember to keep your screws, etc locked away, if not, you may have to wait a day or two for them to show up again.

Today I swapped out the dirty off-white spindles and connectors from my Grasshopper Black Edition for some black ones.

Fine for a stock one, but not for a Black Edition.

Much better!

@TurnipJF Nice!  It’s those small details that make a difference.  :D

For me, I was able to leave the office a tad earlier than expected so painted the fire trash can.

Great weather and took the reconditioned Manta Ray out for a drive.  All was great until 3 out of 4 damper connections broke.  I would blame this on 17 year old brittle plastic.

Question: should I upgrade to new aluminum damper towers or buy a new plastic replacement tree from Tamiya?  Both cost the same but with the plastic tree I have other spare parts as wellA57660DF-31FC-4D60-AB8C-792D9D4B55D3.jpeg.8b5b2dd0684254f98066f61879924bc3.jpeg14508F26-DA20-4D68-9F5D-64EE3D7F427C.jpeg.afdc721178ae9408c00995f275cc1268.jpeg3339AF48-33F7-416E-8275-D1F57364537C.jpeg.9670ef96aeba444e2f91ce9e62a08ffa.jpeg7C93C8B8-AFC3-4898-9338-52D72338E69D.jpeg.8ab6c9fa1006bf67aa9ac127bd97372d.jpegDE97C2B8-D802-46FB-90F1-99010630FB5E.jpeg.3a30824c5a606570bf5fac5d8f7be4a8.jpeg

Agreed. Plastic all the way, otherwise you are just going to end up breaking shocks and/or gearboxes.

Can you not just replace the self tappers with m3 machine screws and nuts. The lugs that broke free of the towers then effectively just become spacers between the shocks and towers?
