Step one of the CC02 Unimog body complete.

4jvXMbO.jpg

Painting the grille did not go well.  I had the Merc symbol masked and sprayed the rest with PS paint.  I quickly realized that it was a mistake not to use a primer.  So I did my best to wipe it clean and now I'll either just use the stickers or look into doing it all in black.

I used a little Tamiya polycarbonate body cleaner to see if it would lift the remaining paint, but it also started to clean off the chrome.

Honestly I think the grill would look better in a darker graphite/gunmetal color to complement your blue.  So I don’t think this was a mess up, more a break to stop and think on the color.  :D  Contrast is good!

That blue looks real good too!!

So real quickly I’m making a decorative trash can for Willy.  I won this EasterEgg last weekend when my wife hosted an indoor egg hunt.. it had cash inside and won like over $80.

Anyway, I didn’t really care about the cash because I’ll be buying my wife and kids supper later on to return the favor for the fun event.. which will probably require me to pitch in a little more cash anyway.. but the critical egg I got with the cash, now that has value to me being a building dork.  :D

Thanks, you’re too kind. :D
The next phase for me is shaping these sheets in curvy formations using heat and some kind of mold.. I think that is going to be pretty challenging.. Making cylinders like this trash can is not so difficult to do.

@Willy iine you're probably already doing this but you could look at blu stuff / sugru for moulds. There's two part silicone as well but that might be overkill!

Or are you thinking more of using an existing shape as a kind of former?

Thanks.. I'm a simple guy and not very intelligent so I was thinking using existing shapes like rounded broom handles, toilet plunger handles .. lol.

I mean that egg I used, that's cheating.. I need to be able to form that out if styrene.. I just could not find a suitable round thing to wrap the sheet against..

Now that I think about it, maybe I can find some old ball type 1:1 car shift knobs to use.. or boiled egg?

Update.. okay got some red on the 2 pieces.  Will let it dry for a few hours and brush paint the rest later today. :D

Sunday lunch at my in-laws. After a few beers, I had a blast playing destruction derby in the livingroom with my own army of nephews and their toy cars

Something particularly fun about bashing a F1 car against a monster truck -and vice versa- especially when you don't own either of them

Beautiful mate! Such an iconic shape. The water mist/spray method followed by hairdryer application method will make your decal job easier if you haven't tried it before. Top job!

The first polycarbonate body I've painted in 18 years and I'm pretty pleased with it.  Now to attack the stickers.

I finished the trash can.  :D

Looks pretty similar to my 1:1 Ponder trash can, from a page or so back, right?

My wife said she can't tell I used an egg.  That's good.

Update... My wife gave me an "A+" for the drill press and regular "A" for the trash can (too easy to make)..  :D   I'm on a roll!

Next up, I'm going to see if I can make a cockpit for my Evo..

A little trail walk, a little beach action, a little cartwheel off a jump, and (perhaps unsuprisingly) now a little broken shock (not a conventional ORV rear shock setup)

It was ripping pretty hard until then though!

Did some speed runs, broke some cars, took the G6-01 apart to change it all to bearings finally. Hope to gain at least .3 mph  so it can move to the top of the 6wd list. I was dreading taking it apart, but it actually was quite easy and quick.

Today I finished up a couple of builds.

The TT02 S-10 restoration is complete.

I also finished up an SCX10 II build I started recently. Not Tamiya but I'm happy with how it turned out. Shown here with a RC4WD Gelande shelf queen and a 1/1 mostly pavement princess..

2 hours in.

Lots of problems looming.   Battery pack sizes and finding pro painter for the body.  Will be trying to find a mesh BBS style wheel with rubber tires to run on this as well.

Won't see much use, maybe a few runs outside or on a carpet track.

Started a build thread in the Vintage forum.

Found the wheels on eBay:
