Another two battery packs were spent on the backyard track:

And my main objective over the holiday break, my Striker driver's head, is complete. It has been a while since I last painted a helmet, and certainly not my best work, but on a runner this will suffice:

hot glue gunned the clod runner shell (was badly split pretty much everywhere) which seems to have fixed it enough for a runner, the same for my bush devil lexan shell which also appears to have worked (it feels quite stuck). not pretty, but both are runners so not concerned.

tidied my 20+ year old box of bits into some poundland compartment boxes, which was 50% useful, 50% in the bin.

cleaned the cellar again, which (RC related ;) ) resulted in a clear work table and workspace again (old tortoise table upside down, 4 legs cut and quite a good work area)

not strictly all today, but over the last few...

Finally gave my nephew his xmas pressies. Among a hot wheels set, monster jam truck, and other tid bits, I left it a little bit before i couldnt wait no longer. He was pretty impressed when he opened up a box to find his own lunchbox! Although it was second hand I dont think he cared as it was his and after taking him to the park and outside on the driveway it got a few more scratches anyway.

He's super happy with it and his uncle is just as glad that he loves it!

Finished the Cat K1 last week, and today I have my XB4 ready to install electronics. First the XB4 and then the finished (and already had a race day K1). Can't wait to drive the XB4!

Dug the steel tank out of the loft to look at how I'm going to build the MKII gearboxes for it. It's giving me a headache already ........

Once Again tried removing the dark green paint I used on my Bruiser - which I hate. Used the thickest solution of caustic soda I could mix. Result - slightly duller, but other effect whatsoever. Left it in the solution for 3+ hours :-/

I had a better idea for showing the JPS since it will never be driven. It looks best from the top anyway.

Paint usually comes off with either acid or alkali. When Caustic Soda (alkali) doesn't work on the Styrene body, try Parma "Fashine" (mentioned on these forums before a few times), it's an acid and also strips certain types of paint quite fast. It worked great on my RA1028 Hilux body when Caustic Soda didn't. It does NOT harm PolyStyrene / Styrol resin bodies.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Just tried what was left of She Who Must Be Obeyed's nail polish remover. Worked a charm. Will pick up a gallon of acetone tomorrow!. Thanks hugely.

Great to hear. Be warned about the Nail Polish Remover (NPR) though, it might well not be real Acetone (if in EU) and instead might be NPR substitute, with a way different chemical formula. So if you try actual Acetone it might dissolve Styrene (never tried it with Acetone before). Test on some scrap first (e.g. a piece of wing from a Blitzer Beetle / SS2010 body that you have maybe clipped some of the wings off, which is quite a popular thing to do around these forums LOL).

I remember one incident where a friend of mine (long dissappeared from TC) applied some Cellulose Thinners onto some paint he had applied to a Blitzer Beetle body and left it overnight... only to find the next morning that the only thing left was a black puddle on the floor... be careful out there!

Oh yes and whilst I think on, the other thing that works without harm to PolyStyrene bodies is Tamiya brand Lacquer Thinner (no other brand), it strips paint very well indeed but stinks (so open all your windows or use outside) and evaporates VERY fast (so don't leave the bottle open, just apply a little to a cloth), I got some from Hong Kong (off Ebay). It stripped a Styrene original SS1979 body of it's gold metallic paint (no other thing worked on it) without any damages to the shell.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

It's a brand from one of the more environmentally friendly shops around here, and declaration says "acetone and oil" - the oil to treat the nails / surroundings, after the harsh acetone. So I think we're good.

I cleaned the lid on my turntable many many moons ago with cellulose thinner.... once...

Will look into the Tamiya thinner if the acetone fails me -

Again, thanks hugely!.

Sunday was my first day back home after the Christmas holiday period, even so I still managed to start disassembling my never run TLT-1 ready for full bearings and a few hop ups.

Whilst putting the christmas decorations away in the loft I caught a brief glimpse of some models I have stashed there (avante, egress, avante 2001, kyosho gallop mkII, hot shot, super shot , scorcher and the nib rere bruiser ), a nice view :D

Well i managed to get to the mail depot tonight before they closed to collect this lot..

IMG_0088.jpg

4 hours later the F103 was completely stripped down, clean and partly reassembled.

I suddenly realised though that you CAN'T put F104 wheels on a F103 rear axle (rims are narrower as no thrust bearing), so looks like i'll have to get the F104 axle parts to use the new wheels, a bit of a bummer given the alloy hop up F103 axle i already have :(

Waiting on rear gearbox sprue from F104W (adjustable height) and a few other bits.

The motor I think is a Peak Performance one, stamped NORRCA on the motor casing - its probably a stock motor but the magnets/windings feel pretty healthy just spinning the pinion by hand

Took some time to start a one year plan, to overhaul my life and get some FUN back into it!!

Plan on relaxing later and having a look inside my new Tamiya Static Kit of The Newman Porsche 956 [item No.24049.2600]

Nice kit by the way, slightly dissappointed i cant find the list of paints required yet. they are normally listed on the first page of the instructions, this one seems different...

Decided it might be time to replace the wheelie bar wheel on my lunchbox, especially considering it has had a 4000kv 4 pole in it for the past week
