The challenge now is to try and tweak it so when the body is mounted it more closely resembles the original Willy’s Wheeler.

imho needs the rollhoop mount not body posts :(

rollhoop mount

the original Wheeler shell clips onto the white rollhoop bolted onto the chassis above the battery, does it not? Love that mounting style.

Ugh... staring at wheeler just 10ft away, but inches outta my reach.

Haven’t gotten around to cracking open a WR02C kit yet - got no free shelf space & all its non-OG oddities will no doubt trigger my OCD further

Rollhoop is molded around metal shaft core so I won’t think it’ll be easy to 3D print that.

Yes, thanks. I thought you were suggesting there is an option readily available.

Found an attempted delivery notice in the mail, went to get the package and found out it was this 😃

20220712-152413.jpg

The prize won for the 20th anniversary TC main site competition,  a spanking new Sand Scorcher.
I am over the moon, and still can't quite believe it happened! Thank you SO much again Tamiya Club, thank you Tamico and last but not least, many thanks to everybody that voted for my entry, and to the people of this wonderful community regardless :)

This kit, although still sealed, goes straight amongst my most precious cars because of what it represents to me.

I am surprised it arrived already, but also quite relieved as it was perfect timing: I'm off for a work trip today -am typing while on a train as of now- and don't even want to think about where the kit could have ended up after the two-weeks holding time at the post office hadn't I been there... so all good!

I can't wait to open the box whenever I'll be back, hopefully in a few weeks 🤪

Absolutely stoked for you - a very deserving winner.

Sand Scorchers optimise Tamiya and whilst they are flawed and out dated it is a Tamiya must have to me.

Congratulations, enjoy!

Is one of you fellas selling a pre-painted XB Wild Willy 2 body in Victoria?

Pretty good price. Been quite a few 'bargains' about recently.

I saw that WW2 and wondered too. There was a chrome body too but it went in seconds.

Seriously, buy a Mini Z 4x4. They are incredible - buy the 4Runner if you want better crawling, or the Jimny for more 'scale,' (I like to think the Jeep and Land Rover don't exist, because I like JDM 4WDs).

I have a die-hard crawler mate, he says the Jimny is cool, but get an Axial. But I like scale and poorer performance over not-so-scale and better performance. LHS doesn't have the Toyota unfortunately.

It was either gardening this afternoon or a bit of cheeky Tamiya 😉

Decided to reassemble the stalled vintage Sand Scorcher project in readiness of listing it on eBay when the next fee deal appears.

Body shell and radio crate this time, next up the chassis/running gear 👍

Good to see you getting more time to tinker, Si! 🙏

Yeah, I'll keep you posted.  Overall it drives well, the motor can be faster, but the traction on my driving environment is low for this car so might be best to keep it at the current speed for me.  Btw, I'm sure you already know this, but the car comes in trainer mode so it's very slow out of the box.   Just need to turn the radio off, pull throttle trigger all the way, and turn on to defeat trainer mode.

Actually, I didn't know that. Interesting! We have had a lot of rain over the past three weeks, this would be a fun inside toy (I also have a Baja Q32 somewhere).

Finally done!

Managed to install the 13.5T brushless motor from my TT02B. It was really a challenge: first I've picked the wrong connectors for my Hobbywing motor (they have 3.5 mm connectors, not 4 mm like I thought), so that was another delay. Then my little expertise in sodlering kicked in. I've spent literal hours trying to desolder the old wires, getting scalded in the process by the way, because I was using the wrong tip for my solder. Once I've realized I should use the wider tip instead of the point type tip used for circuits, things got by much faster. The job is kinda sloppy compared to the stuff I've seen here, but I hope it will work just fine.

This chassis is really not designed for stuff like "regular maintenance" and "putting electronics other than the one the designers wanted". It's so cramped inside that dust protecting box! And the servo is barely fitting in. Still, job's done, car is all finished, and there's a new LiPo to try out (is it my charger or they take an eternity to charge?).

Yes, the MiniZ Optima MID is definitely a good size for driving inside the house!  So after maybe 7-8 runs, the steering works fine with proper recentering so I was happy about that.  My NiMH seems to now charge with good peak voltage so the overall speed is noticeably faster.  It's not a rocket, but I think plenty quick for tight space.  It's a tad nose heavy off throttle yet understeers on-throttle so it can be a bit tricky to get use to, but a quirk worth getting use to as it makes it tad more entertaining to drive.

I say go for it, it you're thinking about getting one.

I should have a set of white and black wheels today along with a spare set of tires.  :D

@Tobyone Nice car!  I would probably go with a red spoiler and paint the middle section on the rear matte black.

For me, placed another order of 1252MG for my Optima MID as it appears USPS lost my order.. ordered from another vendor too this time as my first vendor is being a bakatare (idiot) and not willing to refund me even though I told them I'll let them know (to return it if it arrives).    I'll dispute through my credit card institution later.  Stores like this will continue to lose against Amazon.. and rcMart.

I got white wheels on my MiniZ.  I also got black wheels, but I think I'm going to stick with white on this car.  :D

I am so enamoured with my little 4x4s - they helped get me through Melbourne's lockdowns, both inside and outside. I 100% agree with you about performance - the SCX24s sacrifice too much scale realism for ability. That said, the Mini Z is extraordinarily capable with the right upgrades - my biggest issue with the Jimny is approach/departure angles, but it is just like a real one.

I've built all manner of obstacles to use on a rainy day, but I've also taken them all over Victoria. My Baja Q32 has been as far as Singapore in 2017 and Japan in 2019, but the Mini Z hasn't got that far yet!

This first photo was the day Lockdown 6 was announced - my wife and I were out for a drive in Kinglake when we got the news.

Great stuff @lsear2905. Although every time anyone posts pics of the Jimny I get closer to losing more money.

Lovely pictures too by the way.

What's that F1 car in the last pic? because if anything is going to get my kids interested it's that!

Today i finished printing rims to put paddle tires all way round on my (4wd) Desert Scorcher, as ive decided it will be called when done.

IMG_20220716_103716.thumb.jpg.0523f7e51f5f261fffabfcd6311cad2b.jpg

Now im waiting for another 4 paddle tires to again put on the rears my SandHopper+Scorched DT02 and another body shell for this modded TT02B, which will get a DAK inspired color scheme, the gray one will go back on my DT02 after that.

Okay.. so Kyosho pleasantly surprised me with their presentation with the Optima-MID unboxing.  This was as exciting as opening my first iPhone long time ago. :D

I was placing orders for my MiniZ wheels and tires so decided to double check whether the motor plate was drilled properly to see whether I needed to place order for it or not.  Mine appears to be drilled properly.. I hope I’m not missing any screws..

I love the poster man..  awesome.

Looks like you got extra extra bonus parts with the poster! That's what you got with the first batch of the other buggies in the legend series👍👍👍I didn't think that they were putting the posters in the mids because of the decals and wing being the bonus parts?

Is that right!  I had no idea, but this is great!  :D   The Javelin was kind of a bad luck kit with missing bag of screws for me, but if there is no issue on my Optima MID kit, this poster will make up for it for sure.

Finally got around to setting up my little rc work table today, had to make it a bit taller to fit over my puppies crate since I don’t have a dedicated rc room at the moment and space is limited. Still need to dig out my tools and parts to get my cars fixed but I’m just happy to be getting back to enjoying this hobby again.
