I may need to paint black wheel arches > white roof > back roof with bright silver > mask painted roof > paint body red > back body in bright silver > final black coat Yep, darks to lights is more or less what I do. Don’t skimp on the White of the roof though, if the white is a bit on the thin side the silver can turn it slightly greyish. (A tip I picked up from Mr @Juggular 👍🏻) I’m not as bothered on saving a few bucks on masking tape or to many tins of paint now either as I used be to get a good result. The pain of the extra expense is long gone once the body is finished. I tend to keep polycarbonate off cuts (or use plastic water bottles) to trial a sequence of colours if I’m not sure how it will turn out. Run a finger nail along the edge of the masking tape to make sure it’s all stuck down nicely. A piece of sprue with an end cut on an angle sanded off works well too 8 hours ago, Frankster said: Speaking of @Re-Bugged I found this showroom you did 2 years ago. Very nice 👏 https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=136591&id=49381 Thank you 👍🏻 I did the Gun Metal roof and wheel arches first, then the Silver on the roof. Masked them off >Blue >Red Stripe >White Stripe (backing the Red with it) >Blue over the top again but leaving inside the roof and wheel arches Gun Metal. Good luck mate, take your time and trust your instinct 😉 4

Using Tamiya flexible masking tape but it is not staying on very well at the roof seam. Wheel arches completed.
Frankster 2033 Posted October 6, 2022 MCI decals arrived. Trying to keep this a clean and simple body. Lining up strip on outside of body before masking inside Needed decals for scale before finalizing stripe width
Re-Bugged 10140 Posted October 6, 2022 Feeling your pain on the fiddly roof seem @Frankster, a wipe of damp isopropyl alcohol rag can help clean and aid tape adhesion on polycarbonate bodies.
Yoshimitsu 3475 Posted October 6, 2022 Wishing I had some liquid mask... Not something I've ever used before but I imagine it's ideal for the drivers.
provdes 39 Posted October 6, 2022 The journey with my Ansmann X2 (which I am realising is probably just a Mad Rat in the wrong box) continues and after finding a part was missing from the kit I got bored waiting for a replacement to turn up from Serbia (emails ending up in spam, stuff not in stock, things getting stuck in customs etc etc). Luckily someone had put an stl of the part I need on Thingiverse along with some other Ansmann bits so I downloaded the files and ordered them from a UK 3D printing company called Surface Scan. The ABS parts arrived very quickly today, were nice and clean and accurate enough to do the job nicely. I had originally held the back end together with a zip tie so I could get the wheels on and begin measuring out the cuts on the body. Now I am up and running! I'll be getting the motor and electrics in this weekend I think.

Yes, it’s probably the wrong way to do it, but as I told my mom, me getting born into this world was wrong to start so I’m going all the way with it. GL with your painting! Man, everyone is paining this week, this is great! I’m going to finish painting that little power driver later today. Need to do some maintenance work on my 1:1 Forester this am.

Yes, it’s probably the wrong way to do it, There is nothing wrong with choosing your own way since you know the long and the short of it. It's inside also, so why not go with convenience? I worry too much about silly things and that prevents me from doing stuff. Now that I'm looking at the big Five-0, I should choose convenience myself.

futureworks 864 Posted October 6, 2022 Almost completed my FF01 resto project today, and made I think a discovery! The FF01 was a cheap buy on eBay, and it looked filthy but turned out to be unused and poorly built with parts missing. A bit of elbow grease, a few parts bought, and the super helpful and generous @Hairyjon313, @Superluminal and @svenb who sent me some small parts, it’s now looking like a new build. And the discovery… well that related to the MSC, and it turns out I haven’t got the correct one because the motor connector wires are too short. I always wondered why Tamiya produced so many separate part numbered speed controllers that basically look the same - I suspect the only difference is the length of the wires and the servo rod! Anyone got a new FF01 MSC? Part number is 9405832.

Can you check dimensions on the MCI racing website to see if it will fit your body? I have concerns your Neo body is too slim for the decals. I can give them to you for free if they fit Thank you for the offer! Having thought about it, they probably are too big. I have had a sand scorcher before and it was a big decal, and will probably (like you said) dwarf the side of the DT03. I appreciate it though! Got home today after a nice sun filled day, and am charging all my batteries for another day of truck driving down the line. It's at a event called 'Ride In a Truck Day' where a whole bunch of truck drivers take kids for a lap in real 1:1 trucks, and donations go towards charity. Was tempted to take one of our trucks down, but our 1:14 club is part of the event, so doing that instead. Also this afternoon have been blasting the DT03 around the garden. Rib spikes make a huge difference to turning, still got the silvercan and 17 tooth, so peppy...but no legs. Hopefully will paint that wing on Sunday...

Badcrumble 4203 Posted October 7, 2022 Over here that would be a Henry Hoover @Willy iine. It wouldn't be good enough for the shop but I'd love a scale Hoover Constellation like the one we had while I was growing up. My, that's sad .
