Went to the local Tamiya showroom again for some last minute shopping. Annoyingly, most of the hopups I want are not in stock. Even something as essential as CVA minis, they only have a pair!

Still managed to pick up a Farm King. Seriously interested in a Tumbling Bull but don't really need another WR-02*.

PS anyone know what "bonus" parts are included?

Can you build it and add a speaker singing “old McDonald had a farm…”.  I am sure you kids would love it

So, a lot of the south east of Australia is under water at the moment... So yesterday I got out the hovercraft - this is a roundabout at a local sports field!

That’s awesome. You’ve got a solution for every surface I reckon!

I've got two QD monster trucks, one with 2S Li-ion and a 12T motor, the other mentioned above, with a 18T motor running 8 x AA at 9.6 volts. After driving the 18T truck and being a little disappointed with the pace I've stuck the red ford body onto the faster chassis.

I took this to the park to use on the gravel car park.

IpfLoB9.jpg

P0is8an.jpg

Compared to the other set up, this thing is now a rocket. To be honest it might be too fast. I'm not sure if that's the 2s (although a 9.6 volt pack should be providing more voltage and I would have thought the current drain is quite small with these motors ) or the 12T motor or 10T pinion, but it's in a whole other league.

It's loosely packed gravel, so it was sliding around a lot on the back. It doesn't have the precision of the MF01x or GF01 on this surface being 2WD, but it's fun. Monster Spike tires would help with traction, but it's not a precise car. Low gear just has it pulling wheelies instantly on gripper surfaces, so will look into making a wheelie bar.

The slower chassis which will take the more top heavy Pumpkin body will get a proper pinion (purchased from Victor 101), and then I'll play with the motors.

@provdes Nice!  The notchiness can well be the brushless motor.   That is one of the reasons why I prefer brushed motors for low speed smoothness.. however can’t deny brushless power!

Update.. so for me, still doing my thing at the money making gig at the office.   Can’t wait to get home and start the decals.. but someone has to earn $$$.. not like my pretend RC shop has any revenue.

Final update for today.. got some decals installed on the body.  Precut decals rock.. well at least the ones with no clear boarder.  I actually trimmed off some before applying

IMG_2022-10-13-185443.jpg.46a6f649e4b44ad20a76666484b7ee2c.jpg

Encore update.. lol.   I was too tired to play my keyboards in my music room so decided to finish the decals.   I think it turned out great.  I hope I make @Tumbi proud!   B)

I will paint the tire lettering tomorrow and do a proper photoshoot.

With all these LeMans motor decals, I should probably get a LeMans motor for this car as well..

What can I say: one f%#* good looking Optima! Just an amazing car!
Well done @Willy iine - what about the screws? 🤪

and yes Sir - The Le Mans fits in well 🤓 not 100% happy about the Power… but good enough for me to play around 🤘🏼

keep us updated!

Awesome!  Thanks.  :D   Screws.. dang, I didn't think of that!

You know that flat ledge aft of the roof?  It's been begging me to make it darker, so I am going to see if I have some misc decals to put some vents or something on there later today.

Right now swapping the Tamiya connectors on my new NiMH's I got yesterday to T-connectors.. then going to change gearing on my Javelin to see if that LeMans 490 can get me some adequate power..if so, will swap to the same motor on this Optima MID.  I ordered the 240S ESC so if all fails, going to run BL on this one as well..

And done..

IMG_2022-10-14-080030.jpg.a9eb23740542f3ff4679c479c437d6ce.jpg

Update.. So I swapped the pinion on the Javelin to 31 which is max I can fit in there with the 490 brushed.   It’s got adequate speed, not fast but not slow either.   With LiPo I think plenty quick for my slow old head.. :D

Going to do the same on the Optima MID after some WFH.. and see if I like it.

Update.. I swapped the BZ with a new 490 and geared it down using a 33 pinion and the motor still only gets warm after a 7 min pretty fast run.. so I think I need to think of this motor as more a torquey BL-like motor as it is already running about as fast as it was with the BZ and factory 25 teeth pinion.  BZ can be geared down more, but the goal here is to run a LeMans motor to keep the Kyosho theme.. honestly with a 35 pinion I think I would be satisfied with the current setup, and just run LiPo if I want to go faster.    :D

I love this car.. it is so nice.

Next up, after some WFH, I’m going to make a 4 cell for my comm lathe.   I’ve not painted the side wall lettering yet..

Today I finished the Paintjob on my Paranoid Perry…  he will have to wait a while until he can drive his Egress BE!

decals will follow soon - first time I will try the heatgun thx to @Willy iine

do you heat the decals first so they will be smoother? Or only after putting on for smoothening?

This. And only a small amount of heat otherwise they can curl up. I've got a small fan heater on my bench that I use. I put the decal in place and then hold the body in front of the heater a little while pressing it in place. Practice on a small one first before tackling larger ones.

I position the decal onto the body, then heat it up just enough to get it soft and pliable, apply the decal along the curve, squeegee out the distilled water under the decal,  then go over it again with additional heat and press down gently.

Finally ran the St Dragon and Fire Dragon. They ran as expected with performance closer to a Boomerang (thats a huge compliment) than Top Force. Usual niggles on the first run with a couple of nuts coming off but overall very pleased. They will be our main backyard runners and having them identical makes for better racing

Did some more rc trucking today down the line, had to pack it in early and drive the 3.5 hours home as with my new found love of running, I've acquired a knee injury and my whole kneecap has swollen up and I can't stand 😕

Also said goodbye to my Scania, that's two gone now.

Finished a not so 100% scale lexan 257wb EK9 bodyshell by “Blitz”. It’s for the fwd spec class sitting on a budget xpress FT1S and fixed timing 17,5t Hobbywing combo. I’m quiet happy how it turned out. For masking I used a newly discovered white flexible tape from Tamiya for the main lines, I find it rarely bleeds if applied fresh and sprayed fresh!!

JTGC MUGEN NSX inspired livery from early 2000’s. I wanted to hide the front headlamps with a dark colour as the indents aren’t accurate to the 1:1 EK Civic.

@berman

😎 for the truckin’ time, but a 😢 for the knee. Ouch!

I had the same thing when I started running a few years ago. The running shop in Cardiff had an in-house osteopath who diagnosed patellofemoral dysfunction syndrome, very sore but easily fixed with some home physio.

I thought I was reasonably fit cos I used to cycle around Bristol a lot, but in my case cycling did nothing for the VMO muscle above the knee meaning it was too weak for running, putting too much pressure on my knee

A few weeks off the running and lots of seated alternate-leg lifts did the trick, giving the knee time to recover and building up the VMO. Not had knee pain since 👍

Get ye to an osteopath!

Sorry to hear about your knee injury @berman    Actually I fell off my step ladder on my driveway a few weeks ago while painting our exterior lamp housings (lost my footing due to dumb) on my garage wall.. I thought I broke my right ankle and knee, but managed to finish the project while limping.  I am still limping and very painful to walk up and down the stairs.  And the icing on the cake was the fire drill we had at the office where we had to walk down the stairwell several flights a few days ago.. why today, I asked.

Get well soon!

For me, drove my Optima MID this am to optimize gearing on my LeMans 490 motor and driving style.

I was satisfied with 35 teeth so ordered lightweight aluminum ones to use for permanent installation, then proceeded to paint the sidewall lettering.  :D

The kit comes with decals for the lettering, but I prefer mine painted.

Not just today, but the last three days I've took the old beaten up Audi A4 STW shell which was still somewhere in my stock and made it to a rally body. The Subaru BRZ body which is planned as the body for my budget rally build will take some time until it's done. Additionally I need to widen the track as the body is wider than the Tamiya ones.

From this...IMG_20200910_172748_compress19.thumb.jpg.c31402a29240f5ee04a03e5e27554746.jpg

It's more a look-a-like rally trim with various stickers I had no other use for, but I like it. Also attached some Subaru WRC wing mirrors.

My nephews and niece came down, and we played RC cars.

chk8xZJ.jpg

I was amazed at how quick the brushless QD beetle was vs the MF01x. Despite having a tiny 2030 motor it easily kept up with the MF01x, which is stock motor and 2S Li-Ion battery. Also gave the beetle red wheels, from a QD Manta Ray. Looks good and it's a blast to drive. Can't imagine on 3S or with the 12T motor!
