@Tamiyastef Nice work on the body fitment!  Would you be able to make a front splitter and brackets out of styrene?  I mean if you plan to rally the car, I would mount the lip to the chassis, but if for decore/shelf queen.. that is what I did on the Pajero..

Did you mix paint chemistry before full cure?  Not sure what happened there.  :(

On my white roofs I use acrylic white (brush paint) before I hit it with PS for the body colors.  I allow the paint to dry a couple of days before the PS..

Your Beetle with Billy looks fantastic!  Very cool.   B)

I made a well to paint the roof first.  But the paint did not get into the mini roof gutter trim very well.  Ended up flooding it and making it worse.   Will restart from scratch.

Thanks.  Figuring out 4 wheel steering part broke me. Trying to get it to work without a proper workshop / tools was not easy.   Now I am afraid of driving it.

I see.. it is tricky to paint all Tamiya white paints including PS, imho.  The trick I found is to paint from 15-18" away..like the farther you keep your nozzle from the body, the more white the paint will stick.  It's like the opposite of say typical off the shelf enamels.

That said, it is always good to have surplus of paint if you can.

That's great work you did on the 4WS.  I too bring everything to my 1:1 garage when I need to do serious cutting and work as I have a lot more aggressive tools there.  I can also make a mess, but I have a shop vac and all so clean up is fast and easy.  This is one reason why I have been seriously thinking about getting back into nitro cars for outdoor driving.. keep my RC in the garage.  I have plenty of room and tools are already there so..

Nope, no shelf queens for me. I like to drive my cars but never trash them. That's how I made my Grasshopper survive from 1984 up to now :D The Lancia shell will live on the TA03F so tarmac duties only. Will try to get the lip on the body not the chassis (and probably regret it later :)

For now I made this moodboard, just to decide if I would go boxart with the Martini livery or just one of those:

Absolutely superb are you doing it boxart or your own design? I think as time goes on people will start to appreciate this chassis (TD4/TD2) my TD4 is my go to bashing buggy because it's very good to drive it's got the alloy diff nuts in the gearboxes because the original plastic ones lasted about 10 seconds and that's the genuine truth! So that was a wise decision to do your homework before you built it I got my TD4 avante when they first appeared so had no reference to go with!

That TD4 looks lovely.

I’m going mainly  boxart. I really like the red but I might mask the cockpit slightly differently, not sure yet.

I did a lot of reading of the TD4/2 threads on here. One of the nice things about the 2 is that I only had to buy one diff nut!

@Re-Bugged Chassis is looking good!  Have you considered some industrial strength hook and loop ( velcro) for the battery?  I use that stuff on my TA05 M-Four and works great.

Hummmmmm, Velcro is a good call 👍🏻 I was thinking of some kind  of toggle using existing screw holes, but with the tub ribs on the bottom I could probably  attach a Velcro battery strap (like on the Javelin) in there 🤔. Thanks bud.

Foam tape around the sides + your wife’s hair elastic hair tie?  I don’t believe you will going too wild over bumps in a street scorcher

Foam tape is also a good shout for taking up some slack, Ta 👍🏻
Definitely not being built as any kind of speed demon/stunt car with a hard body on 😉 Just a why not build more than anything.

Sorry for your dramas with the Mini..

But the Bug looks fantastic 👍🏻

Morning all,

Just joined the forum.

Never had a proper RC before, was always jealous of friends when growing up who had Tamiya kit cars. So now i've decided, sod it I'll get one now as I can.

As a first timer, I've gone for a TT02 chassis for cost and simplicity and the and  Lancia Delta body as, well it looks cool.

Did a bit of reading up, so have also bought some proper bearings and oil dampers, both Yeah Racing (i could have got CVAs, but I guess i've already been bitten by the love of blue). I got the kit and controller from a local model shop, but waiting for bearings and dampers to arrive before I can start the build. Didn't want to get too much bling first off though.

However, I'm already double thinking myself, should I have bought the XV-01?

I can't use the kids as an excuse, as they're only 3 and 1, so this is for me!

Welcome!

I don't think so. Get some building and driving experience with the affordable TT-02. See if you like it enough to spend more time and money on the hobby. Get to learn the car, how it reacts, see if you like tweeking it to make it better suited for your driving style etc... in short enjoy!

You can always get a XV-01 later (I think everyone should have a XV-01 :D) but try to keep your TT-02. That first car is always something special. I still have and drive occasionally my Grasshopper from 1984. And I'm sure the performance of the TT-02 is way better than that of the Grasshopper to start with but I still enjoy my beloved Grasshopper.

TT02 has many hop up options and spare parts available to last a lifetime 🤗.   Just think of this as your first of many kits…

@Elbowloh  Congrats on your new car.  The TT02 is a great car.  I have the buggy version (NeoScorcher) and for bashing around in front of my house, it is absolutely perfect.  If you haven't already seen,  @Ferruz has the TT02 version Lancia as well with the inside cover and interior and all.  Absolutely gorgeous car.  B)

I mean the XV is cool too and just for the sake of variety, if I get into rally cars, I will pick up one of the XV chassis for knowledge purpose.

GL with your build!

Okay so for me today, going to take a break and head to the office for my money making gig.. someone has to earn $$$ for my RC..     Maybe I  too can grow an RC plant like @Re-Bugged?

Later today if I still have any energy left, I will start the tripod for Willy's blog camera..

The XV-01 comment, was slightly tongue in cheek. I've not even built or driven the thing  yet. I can get quite deep into hobbies once i start though!

Today I took another try and went to a local Pumptrak and tested my Avante BE.

its super to handle… but as I realy don‘t wanna crash or scratch it, I really took it super easy! The Suspension was way too soft… so I couldn‘t send it too hard - bC i didn't want to ruin the Ground-Plate.

but still…had a good time. And my younger son could cruise around withy my Bugsy and even made him fly a little!

That one is still in the running. For now I ruled out the white, black, orange, yellow, dark green and dark blue one... I have black wheels I want to use (read as: I don't want to spend anymore money on yet some other wheels and the XV-01 white Lancia wheels wont fit the TA-03F), I always find it hard to imagine how the finished product will look like..

I 3D printed the custom MF01x spacer to make a 181 mm wheelbase Jeep.

I just got into this hobby few months ago too and now the cars are multiplying by itself :P

Just one suggestion, make sure you get proper tool especially correct-sized JIS screwdriver for TT-02. My first experience was almost ruined by strained wrist and almost-stripped screws because I tried to be cheap on tools.

@Yoshimitsu I see that you went with magnets!  B)

I am finally home after a gruesome day at the office as I do not like to be around people who I really don't care for.  People have too many faces including me.  I have that sociable face and attitude, but it's not who I am.  I like to be hidden away by myself in my pretend RC shop and talk to you guys here showing my latest creations and admiring your creations and insights.

Thanks for the 10K reaction score, I am humbled by the reactions you all have given me despite the bandwidth pollution I tend to post..  I will continue on with my RC venture here on TC as I am not even close to completion..  so.. I guess sorry in advance for more bandwidth pollution..

Here are confirmed projects that are coming up..Willy's blog camera on tripod, Mini-Z 4x4 Jeep Wrangler (should be here soon),  followed by Turbo Scorpion build,  followed by Optima MID #2, followed by Egress Black, followed by Fighting Buggy, followed by TRF420 with NBR STI, followed by street version custom Sand Scorcher.. then hope injected projects like Fantom EXT, Inferno MP9 nitro, XVPro with Lancia body, and a fancy dual deck CF F1.. (?) by that time my pretend RC shop should be twice as big, space wise..  I will be taking breaks after each build to make more Willy accessories for Willy's future car lounge.  Arigatou.  Thanks again.  B)

I have a Losi Baja Rey Ford raptor which I imagine is quite similar only 3s though. It is my favourite rc car to drive. The size and weight seems to make them handle like the real thing, in fact in the case of the Losi the suspension basically is like the real thing. Find a nice undulating dusty track and let it rip. You won’t stop smiling for hours😁😁😁

I was actually looking at the 1/6 Losi SBR 2.0, but it's $2000 over here, then batteries. This was $1200 plus batteries. Certainly lots of fun! Since I've had it, I charge it the night before then stop off somewhere after work and let rip... great fun! Well except for last night, after the mower had cut the soccer field, and I spent the evening with tweezers getting grass out of the esc fan 😄

Too tired to do any plasticard work so decided to swap to the aluminum pinion I received today and took the Optima MID for a test drive.  So nice.. B)   The LeMans490 is unbelievable.. so quick for a 30 turn (35 teeth pinion) and super driveable.  Motor does not even get hot with the lightweight pinion now after an aggressive run for 9min.

@Frankster  I think it is very loose so you might be able to apply directly, but I would allow the paint to partially dry on a dish to thicken before applying if I must use a brush.  You will need a super soft bristle  brush most likely..

I have a bare bone Tamiya portable airbrush so I would use that though..

The white I used (brushed on) was Parma's Faskolor.. but I believe it was discontinued many years ago.

Also, if you have any masking tape for curves, I would use that for masking the roof.  I would use one long continuous piece to prevent any bleeds.

GL!!
