Made my first ever RC body! Had a few hiccups with painting and decals but from a distance you can't tell...

Took 13 hours to do! Totally worth it.

Almost finished the GF01 with FJ40 hard body. First job was the simplest.

zGU0bXN.jpeg

I replaced all the screws with stainless M3 screws. Small change but zero rust potential  now. The car has CVAs, bearings, steel pinion and stainless suspension pins as upgrades. I don't like blue bling, and don't run too hard so only need the necessary.

Love this chassis! With the chassis refreshed I looked at the interior.

Basic but Edgarmon likes it. He gets bolted in. Fits perfectly.

Almost finished now. I need to add the panel lines, perhaps decals and 3D print a neater box for the esc switch. Also need wheelie bar spacers to push back the bar 15 mm or so.

These don't compare with Tamiya quality and a number of flashing or mould lines are visible, but overall I am happy with the body. I just hope it stands up to light running.

Nice Madcap, Frankster! This paintscheme would also have looked good on a TD-2 or TD-4.

Thanks @Andreas W.  Took a risk ordering custom decals from MCI and not knowing how out it would turn out.  Don’t have enough green cars out there.  British Racing Green with yellow was another option.

With MCI Racing decals I changed the red to a darker Ruby red, yellow to darker sunflower yellow, white to a medium grey.

@Willy iine sorry this is not a military theme

I've been working on my TS050 body this week, taking my time and letting each layer of paint dry for many hours before applying the next. I had it almost the exact color I wanted, coverage was near perfect, then I figured another light coat of green and it'd be perfect. Should have left it near perfect cause the light coat turned most of the body neon green :(. Oh well, like most of my bodies it will be getting lots of use and was never meant to be a shelf queen anyway so no big deal. Started to decal it today but didn't get far, I'll post pics when its done.

Also did a few speed runs, wasn't the best location/road for it but had no traffic at all so worked out ok, took the grasshopper, my Tamiya Super Doodle, and Thunder Shepard. Had hard time getting exact speeds, but best I could figure was around 16-18mph

Not to happy about being slower but quickly took care of that..

Got my personal best with the hopper of 46mph, can prob go faster if the front tires were straight and could spin. They kept falling off and I lost the bearings so I just put a 8mm wide hex with a locknut to hold them on, they could spin a little but probably are slowing it down along with the much too short and bent steering rods that are holding the front in a nice V shape lol. Have to swap it over to the new parts and try again.

Great truck @Nikko85, Proportions are great.  Where is the hardbody from?  Does Tamiya make this body with long bed?

@berman That really sucks.  But I do remember reading about the nose section cracking off the rest of the chassis on the DT03's..even with just moderate impact.. (?).

Yeah I read that too, even I was suprised and the damage. Snapped the factory servo saver too. Oh well 🤷

Hi @berman can you share the cause of the chassis crack?   There are a few NIB kits at a  good price and was thinking of getting one. Can this area be reinforced?

Incompetence. 😄

Maybe it could, it's pretty brittle ABS by the looks. Tamiya offer the black parts surrounding the nose in reinforced plastic, suprised the chassis frame doesn't get offered. It was a pretty solid table, just suprised as it was a low impact hit.

@Andreas W@Busdriver painted his TD-4 British Racing Green with yellow.   Looks great and pays homage to older racing cars

Yup. Remember it well. This was one of the first TD-4 which changed my mind about the bodystyle of this buggy. Just pure and simply well done:).

Its Aliexpress, MN-45 shell.  The car itself is a cheap crawler but the body fits the GF01 when you flip the GF01 rear arms. The body shell cost around £10 to £20 depending on offers and where from, in silver, blue and orange.

Link here. They also sell a Land Rover body too which looks ok.

Shells are coloured plastics and have minor defects (bubbles in the window, some flashing) but also nicely detailed and seem to be made strong enough.

The long bed is cool, but might almost be too long. Worried it'll snap off if I reverse it.

No problem, I had my teen son help me set mine up so I cheated.  lol.  I honestly don’t know what the heck I’m doing over there either.

When I tried making an Instagram emoticon/avatar describing how I looked, I noticed there was no option to add gray hair ..  lol.  dang it, I feel expired.

So for me today, making another stand this time for Optima MID #2.

Update.. okay, got the stand completed.

I really need to kick my son out of his room.. need more space.  :D   I think I'm going to make an eviction notice soon.  lol

Wow, that looks fantastic, @Xeostar!!

Thanks, I was quite pleased with the colour. :D A surprising amount of masking for just the two colours, it's a complex shape.

I'm going to get a set of these colours and see what the others are like.

Busy few weeks here, so not much RC, nor even much time for TamiyaClub.  :(  A quick shift from +10c to -18c brought a lot of snow, and after spending 3 days digging my snowblower out of the shed, rebuilding the carb, and then chasing down a gas leak, all I had the energy left to do creatively was cut a sticker for the monster in question.

Thanks for sharing.  Looks like fun and not a worry if the body gets dinged. The exo skeleton, where do you get one?

Agreed! Is the additional chassis bracing all locally made? Looks very stout.
