4 1/2hrs of masking just for a few pinstripes.

Lots of cans of hope required 😉

I seriously should have taken up your offer...still haven't started mine.

And all this talk of snakebites and jager bombs has given a lot of laughs here. We don't have that kind of national drink, we have crate day down here which as the name suggests is a crate (doz) of quart bottles (745ml, no idea how much that is in American) and eve though crates are cheap I'm not sure they're value for money...

Thanks @GeeWings, I’m not sure how many intricate paint jobs I’ve got left in me, I really should start looking at X-SA versions for less stress 😂

I’m due for Long service leave in about 18 months @Jonathon Gillham, maybe I should swing by NZ with some masking tape and give you a hand 😉

Some of these paint jobs are enough to drive you to drink sometimes..

You should definitely swing by NZ, and in 18 months I may even have painted it, or just built another Racing Sparrow, Durga, refreshed the fleet of race cars...anything to avoid painting it!

Such a relief it doesn’t take hours to remove all the masking tape and to discover all is well 😃. Just the clear coat left to go now. That’s  the awkward stuff out the way at least.

Very happy with this result, not sure it actually needed the stripes on the wings but it’s been something I’ve wanted to try for a while so I can tick that box now.

At least your printer also runs nice and smooth to since the SRB shocks leaked their oil all over it.

For me, going to start on the Turbo Optima body.  Since I tossed in a spare body set on my last order overseas to offset the air freight, might as well start with this one.  :D   Today just going to cut the body and trim/sand.  The plan is to paint tomorrow, finish on Sunday.

The chassis build will take place during Thanksgiving week, I think.  B)

..wish me hope..

Update.. I got a bit further than I thought.   The body is trimmed and sanded.  Brush applied the red as I was too lazy to mask the entire car for this.. although the body comes with nice precut masks.  I will let it dry overnight and spray PS white tomorrow as planned.   :D

Final update for today..  Also painted the driver's torso this evening..  Will spray it as well tomorrow. :D

Filled the body post holes on my 037, and started priming and painting. Only taken 2 and a half years to get to this point!  Now to design a body mount system that can get it low enough....

Took my ROChobby jeep for a walk in the woods. I have added quite a few scale bits to it. Note to self “take them off when running through the woods” Somewhere there is an American GI’s helmet buried in the leaves👹 It’s a really good trail truck and not bad at climbing. It’s not good at going across slopes though as the body is really heavy and it tips. 3AA08FEF-462D-4BBD-B687-3C21FF0CC1DD.jpg

Thank you kindly Gents. These Scorcher bodies do tend to bring out the best in me 😉.

It was seeing your ‘Brown’ Blackfoot (Busdriver) & (Juhunio’s) recent Porsche that sparked the idea for this one 👍🏻

Studied and contemplated a future project. I’ll need a 235mm wide rear, 210mm wide front chassis. It will either be a Roche P10W, or a Fenix Racing G56.

I just love IMSA and these older generations of race cars. Livery will be a interpretation of either ones of these :) .

Finished assembling the chassis of the M07 (temporary servo), also decided to molotow the light buckets and also paint the wing mirrors on my Europa.

Well, the hornet is coming along. She runs so now I can organize the wiring.

I also sprayed the body today but wasn't happy with the spray job so will redo it when I get the chance.

And while I am writing you guys could perhaps recommend a new project I can start to have a look at ..... Yes yes I will fully complete this one first 😊

Got the Juggernaut's cabin paint-free, as well as the bumper and tail-gate.

That's half way finished at least...

Fitted model kit wheels to my 1:24 Lancia 037 RC car and gave it a run:

The window opening gives decent access to the on/off switch inside the bodywork!

For me, gave some color to the TurboOptima body.  Looks like a mess, and it probably is.

Wish me hope..

I decided that I would like a CF upper deck on this car, so placed order.. the other parts are gold, so going to keep them as is.  I also have aluminum wheels coming to me soon.. should look good.. with hope.

Update.. turned out nicely, I think.  No bleeds.  I also made sure to paint the inside of the rear damper opening area black.

This isn't technically something I did today, but it's probably my favourite project and created the absoloute most fun car I've ever run, until sadly I had to retire it because it's fragile and nearly rips itself apart every time I run it. I've had to replace parts on it every time I use it because it's not really designed to do what I made it do. But it was worth it.

I started off with a WLToys 124019. This got me back into RC cars after nearly 20 years after seeing the speed run videos people were doing with them. I don't really have anywhere to do speed runs though, and in stock form this car is a bit "meh", so I decided to do something different with it.
Started with this:

IMG_20220521_131108.jpg.d12e388852c8546c4947d98953e385d0.jpg

Ended with this thing:

IMG_20220630_125356.jpg.332d6c5a287b5fe148408179b8eb408b.jpgIMG_20220630_125424.jpg.05a32d435bc2595a10be7fd4a30c0b25.jpgIMG_20220630_125438.jpg.021c84f2bb825ecfafc1e782bbac1c2f.jpg

Wanted to make it into an actual basher, so I designed and 3D printed some wheels to use Lunchbox tyres.

IMG_20220630_120105.jpg.3708dbef4538f0f74a6b74d4045a6210.jpgIMG_20220630_120049.jpg.4bf33c82cdab769e5d3fd914e406974a.jpg

I originally was running GT2 CNC pulleys and belts instead of gears since there's a much bigger range of tooth sizes, and I needed a big adjustment from the stock 27/44 that the car came with. So I started off with a 16/60 setup, but eventually came back to gears as there was a lot of slippage on the belts. Again back to the 3D printer, designed an adaptor to take a 71T Tamiya spur gear and fitted a 13T pinion. This let me run the wheels without any cogging from the 3950kv brushless setup:

IMG_20220628_214600.jpg.83402d240ead6365d9e369482676d098.jpgIMG_20220628_214610.jpg.04a286ebe8abc753b3624f9b2188cc3d.jpgIMG_20220628_214904.jpg.e9c373e013c08875107299b313043828.jpgIMG_20220629_201054.jpg.001d8c2106fe0ceb61908934b8cc08a5.jpg

Designed and printed a wheeliebar for it that made use of the original back wheels and incorporated some red LEDs. Also made a front bumper/mount setup to take an eBay LED setup:

IMG_20220616_141652.jpg.5eadfda09b51ddcbc7b42476f089f520.jpgIMG_20220629_224056.jpg.c95cd4b9771d16dc98e55be966f35903.jpgIMG_20220629_224116.jpg.622d0734ac46111c8e23f34ba009f757.jpg

Switched out the stock mini servo for a JX Ecoboost and printed a new top plate to mount it above the driveshaft instead of next to it. Used this opportunity to ditch the horrid little stock fan on the speed controller and made a mount to fit a 40mm Noctua one:

IMG_20220629_201326.jpg.f4a94ea7a6736ea26ccb46153fc3d305.jpgIMG_20220629_201550.jpg.296967b274018d68ec12040f1dfe0c19.jpgIMG_20220629_223738.jpg.001922325d5e382e69b39e79079ccbce.jpg

Final touch was some LC racing body mounts and a Phat Bodies Funkenblitz Beetle body.

IMG_20220524_165640.jpg.4260be8c73739286d71afc4d8017f605.jpg

Trying to find something relatively off the shelf that would be a good replacement. Thinking of maybe getting a Mad van and sticking the electrics from this into it and see if it comes close to how ridiculous this thing was.
