Thanks again @Nikko85 all good ideas! The farm king fronts had sprung to mine already and I’ve managed to find rims but not tyres yet.

Initially I also didn’t really want to spend a ton of cash on this so it might be I go with the van as I already have sand tyres that I think fit well with it (as in previous pic).

I'm all for sand tires on an MF01x, have them on both of mine, they work so well!

I did exactly the same for my 2011 avante you don't realise how much motors have come forward these days until you put what was the motor to have back then In your buggy it was a bit lacklustre but much better with a 2s lipo:)

Yeah, I think Futaba can make these cases pretty easily because they do those aircraft radios.  I should get a case for my DX5Pro down the road..they have a black one that looks pretty cool.. I use to bring my R1 in a padded SLR camera case which worked perfectly fine, but just not nice like hard cases.  Not that anyone should care, it's just fun accessories to have.. A padded shipping bag would work just fine.

Thanks on the M38.  That is one treasure I will take to my grave.

So for today, started out the day pumping air into my 1:1 daily drivers parked outdoors before temps take a dive over the weekend into next week.  I talked to my team at work yesterday while at my money making gig at the office, and we agreed we can WFH next week and then I am off until 1/4/2023.. so I hooked up my WRX to a battery manager to keep the battery in float state.  l'll just use my Forester when my wife is not using it until the next year.

As for RC, I'm going to test fit the 3rd party protective trays I got for my Turbo Optima and Optima MID (for the CF deck one).  If I like them, will reamer some holes and install.  :D  Tomorrow I expect to start the Kyosho Beetle build.. my finger tip is about 70% healed, at least no longer bleeds.

Funny you should talk about aircraft radios! I was talking to my LHS owner as he was unboxing a load of spektrum dx6 for rc aircraft and what struck me was how much considerably cheaper they are to buy than rc surface radios we have to buy<_< the dx6 with all up to date software was retailing just under £90

I put 500k oil into the diff of my DT-03 (it's not really sealed, so needs to be thick enough not to leak) and gave it a try. On a hard frost though, so I am none the wiser as to whether it's a good idea or not!

Also got the B64 bonkers Beetle truggy conversion out on the same. Everything seems too heavily damped, which I presume is temperature related, and even in the cold the B64 motor gets too hot and the battery doesn't last. It was fun though.

And I proved, if I didn't know it already, that I am useless at making videos,

and that if I am to lay out a postal racing track on this bit of ground I won't get many laps in. I'm going to try it though.

Huh... I checked Amazon and the DX6e was like $280 in the USA..  is that a UK thing with aircraft radios?!

So for me, got the Optima MID tray installed.  Now my CF is safe.. I hope ..

Tested out hornet with super stock RZ motor. It was so much fun! Spins quite a bit on asphalt, but it handles quite well on grass/dirt.

I think the hornet is my favorite tamiya rc car so far.

now I want grasshopper 1/2 and rising fighter and all those lines…

The Optima has to be one of the best looking buggies, ever. Its shape is just so right.

So I couldn't leave well enough alone and started modifying the Clod. I told myself I was going to leave it mostly original, but after changing the body out I had to keep going.

I really liked the look and stance of the JConcepts chassis but it's really expensive and far more modding than I wanted to do since it also needs axle mods and the likes too. So I replaced the stock body posts with posts that would let the body sit a bit lower on the chassis. This also required cutting off the bumper mount and some of the front inner fenders, as well as relocating the battery. Finally, the JConcepts wheels and tires complete the look.

I'm over the moon with this thing.

My mistake radio only and last of the dx6i because its replaced by the dx6e which is £206 for full gear which is probably on par with your prices?

What did you replace first when you changed everything to the carbon fibre I've done everything apart from the chassis but I'm not sure if I should have done it first? That's looking really sweet by the way:wub:

Oh, I see… yeah, the older gear is probably cheaper in the USA too if getting replaced.

When I did the CF bits on my MID, I just changed everything to CF except for the lower deck on my MID #1 (white). This is probably the way to go for runners and not run a lower tray, just ignore the scrapes on the bottom of chassis and keep driving.

The only issue I had with that is the servo horn would not clear the upper deck unless I shimmed it up by one washer as you have to run a 1-2mm spacer on the servo mount to clear the lifted lip of the lower aluminum deck.

So on MID#2 (yellow), I decided to run all CF (YeahRacing set) including the lower deck and everything fit perfectly.. only issue, I need to install a lower tray if I want to save the lower deck from scrapes.  This one is my runner.

MID#3 (night) will run all Kyosho CF bits, no tray.

The other hopups I run are like the Kyosho option motor plate, turnbuckles, metal steering linkage, bearings for steering linkage, stabilizer (not needed imho), universals, etc.. off the top of my sleepy head.  :D

Hope you're all well, good to see all the cool stuff you guys have been up to of late😎👍🏻

I picked up a Wild Dagger cheap on eBay earlier this week, hardly been used. Swapped out the plastic bushes in the wheels for bearings and the hexes for alloy ones and took it out for a drive. Just kept the standard MSC in it and it ran fine in vintage style. Used a vintage pistol grip Tamiya Expec transmitter with it as well. First time driving a WT-01 chassis and also first time with a twin motor truck. Certainly not fast by any means, but can get up and over pretty much anything 😂

dyG1LQw.jpeg

Being twin motor, it went through the Nimh batteries fairly quickly. Might look at the twin battery chassis upgrade and then upgrading the motors for a brushless setup. Anyone got any experience of modding this chassis?

I'm running a Wild Dagger chassis with two silver cans, quicrun dual motor esc and 20t pinion. I've put bigger tires on it and run it with 2S Lipo. It's fast enough for my backyard.

Cool, thanks @Aerobert, good shout on upgrading the pinions from 18T to 20T first as a first step. I've not gotten myself into Lipos yet, so this might be enough to top me over the edge😂 What sort of run time are you getting out of the 2S battery on this twin motor beast? Also what size 2S? And which tyres did you swap for? Cheers

Oh also, it appears the Wild Dagger drew blood on its first outing!🔪🔪🔪 We've just changed the nappy on our 2yr old and there was blood on the changing mat from the back of his head!😧

Whilst we were out with the car, and as I was about to drive the truck across in front of me, he came in front of me to talk to me. So I stopped the truck and he proceeded to walk straight into the long aerial of the vintage transmitter. It's been 30 years since I've used one of these with an aerial😂, so my fault that I was holding the controller downwards, as it poked him in the neck as he approached🙄 This made me push the controller downwards away from him, so no real harm done. However, that in turn pushed my finger on the trigger... uh oh... the truck shot forwards from behind and pretty much swept his legs from under him. He went flying backwards and sat his *** on the rear of the truck as he tumbled over backwards and whacked the back of his head on the floor! DOH! He seemed ok at the time after a little cry, but he now has two massive bumps and cuts on the back of his head...

...🤫I blame the truck🤦🏻🙄😂

@Kol__ Hey welcome back!  Nice grab on the Wild Dagger.  My son has one I built for him long time ago.. it's bonestock with plastic bushings and all..it has a dual motor ESC, high torque servo and servo saver.  It does drive over pretty much everything.. and faster than a crawler so pretty versatile for a basher!   Have fun.  :D

Oh no:(. I'm also sure it was the truck;). Hopefully your son will be fine again soon @Kol__.

Regarding the run time of the lipo battery I never watched the clock when running it but I would estimate between 20 and 30 minutes. I'm using the 4000 mAh Gartpot 2S Lipos. They are round hard case batteries and fit the Tamiyas very well. They were quite cheap when I've bought them, around 25€, but I'm not sure if they are still available.

The tires are cheap monster truck tires from eBay. They come with chrome plated plastic rims but they fits the kit wheels perfectly. And they are looking great on this truck, like a Monster Truck.

And here are two pics of mine when it was not so beaten like it now is:

As you can see on the first picture I also fitted cheap Carson oil shocks.
