Spent ages looking for a set of shocks, couldn't find them, started thinking that my memories of having acquired them were no more than vivid hallucinations, went onto another project, and found the missing shocks hiding under the parts for said project! 🤦‍♂️

Went to the furniture shop to buy a bed for a tenant, managed to also buy this shelf for myself. Finally have the space to be able to build some more kits. Please excuse the dinged up door, cat owner problems :D

Update on my WO Blockhead conversion with some custom touches...

Yesterday, installed the CF side panels using M2 hex screws and nuts.

Today, I started building the chassis.

Used new metal servo saver and new steering rods No more worries of popping out as they are bolted with M2 hex screws..

So, continuing the nostalgia. I finished work early, sun was out so the Mrs and I took a walk to the local park. So I took the Merc TL-01….

9WSOSM7.jpeg

With a twist. This is a bone stock TL-01 with MSC. Aged 12 when the TL-01 came out, this pretty much what we had if we were lucky enough to have parents who could afford an RC car for their child. If you told 12 year old me that Id be able to put a GPS on my toy car and find out how fast it went my mind would have blown.

 Thankfully 23 years later……

w33qkJW.jpeg

We can! I love the blend of old school electronics with a GPS Speed Analyzer.,,,

Car is bone stock, stock gearing, silver can. Radio is Acoms 27mhz. The NIMH is an 1800mah Traxxas, borrowed from my EZ Start wand for my 2004 Revo 2.5R, so no idea on condition etc, but it peak charged in around and hour and showed decent voltage…..

PLACE YOUR BETS……..

I had a good smile running it mind, the handling is shocking. Ive no idea if 13mph is “normal” Im guessing other people have done the same so may find some speeds. However, I have a benchmark, Ill do the same with my Subaru TL-01. This will have 2.4ghz radio, a Tamiya BZ Motor, 1060 ESC and a 2S Lipo. Combined with speed tuned gearing and bearings.

If you get 5 minutes, would you mind doing me a favour? Do you have a set of Tamiya 26mm rims lying around? If so, could you test fit them to the TC01 and see if they spin cleanly without fouling on the uprights? The fact that the bearings stick out beyond the hubs creates that bit more clearance, but if you could test it out and post back it would be massively appreciated

If the test is a success it would open this chassis up to a wider range of body shell and wheel combos 👍

Figured I'd cross post this as if @Juhunio is curious, I'm sure someone else is too.

I didn't have any Tamiya brand 26mm wheels on hand, but I did have these no-name 26.5mm wheels, and I figured (hoped?) that would be close enough.

The label says they come with a pre-glued drift tire... but very clearly they are just a rim/wheel.  Not that any part of that sentence has an affect on me testing the fit...

And yes... they do fit.

Trimmed and test fit the GR Yaris body on the MF-01X. Body clears the motor but not the protruding bumper thingy. Still looks okay though

Ah, I have the same chassis / bodyshell combo waiting to be built, so thanks for posting. I was hoping the chassis could be shared between MK2 Escort and GR Yaris, but the Escort front is really tight with the aftermarket bumper.

I wonder what effect (if any) it would have if you just sawed that piece of the chassis off before the screw fixing? Motor is pretty secure by itself and I imagine that the clamping force of the motor keeps the whole gearbox fairly rigid.

Bring me my hacksaw!

I have had that thought on many occasions just haven’t been brave enough to do it!!!

That’s a good idea. Once I get a spare chassis I will definitely give it a go!

Just before you leap check Tamiya ones first. I believe they have ribs on the insides of the wheels and it is these that catch on the suspension arms?

They do but I don't think they would project that far. Aided by the fact that not even the bearings sit flush with the outside face of the hubs, which has gotta help

Well, surprisingly my 1 in, 1 out policy has been implemented with surprising efficiency! I sold the Proboat UL19 on Sunday, and one of the Mini Z 4x4s last night.

I also ended up ordering a heap of parts for the TRX4M, UDR, a different Mini Z 4x4 and my Tamiya SW01 (I've wanted to convert it to a clear chassis with yellow gears for a while now).

So having bought and sold some RCs, and then bought a heap of upgrades I'm sitting $26 in the black for the year so far... although I don't think that will last long!!

Got a lot of the VX-01 chassis completed tonight.   What a nice chassis.  My first VX-01 and definitely many improvements over the TT-02.

For me yesterday, I was at the office doing my money making gig, but it didn’t stop me from placing orders for an Optima and Scorpion to complete my Kyosho wall.  :D  aka Akira’s corner.

Update:  Ordered the receivers and a motor today.. I will build them box art and completely stock.. except for the Optima as I want to run the aluminum wheels Kogawa-san gifted me.  I want to build these cars to represent the starting point for Kogawa-san (besides the Blizzard I already own) and Kyosho's electric racing buggy's history.  Maybe down the road I can find original NIB cars, but for now, these will do.

Electronics I will run are very basic..  Scorpion will run Kyosho's servo I pulled from the 240Z FazerMk2, 1060, generic silver can, SR215.   Optima will run 1252MG, LeMans 490, 1060, SR215.   No ball diffs, no turnbuckles, no fancy.   Just the bare bone basic is what a I want on these cars.  B)

I've not been doing much RC with family stuff going on, however I did manage to finish off my Jeep. It was due to go on a QD monster truck chassis, but in the end I realised I really wanted it 4x4 so it went on the GF01*

It probably still needs a clear coat but looking good to me. The chassis is my GF01 with increased wheelbase, one of my favourites.

Painting took an age to get colours and design right, and it's not 100% perfect in execution, but good enough for me.

Edgar the cat drives of course.

And vs the JP Jeep on the MF01x

qV3Q45n.jpeg

oSrPyoD.jpeg

Overall I am super happy with it and the body works perfectly on this chassis, with just enough depth to keep the full interior. I love the Wild Willy but less of a fan of the military look and think this suits the wheelbase a little more perhaps. You can see the  paint design is a nod to the JP jeep, but a little different. I wanted something that was a little camo, but not military and also not "urban camo" either. I also quite like that the lake blue/green is very similar to by TC ident colour.

*this means after car chassis musical chairs have a spare QD chassis and body, so watch this space!

Jeep looks fantastic @Nikko85

I've been working on my car park drifter body shell, the paint got messed up after I disobeyed the Tamiya Gods and used non-Tamiya paint, what a fool. But now that I'm working on it I'm getting rather attached. I need to paint the rear wing though, the fake carbon fibre isn't doing it for me!

@ChrisRx718 I'm not sure where you were having issues with the non-Tamiya paint?   Looks okay in your picture..

Actually the CF pattern appears to be to scale so seems to work for me.  (?)   Looks like dry carbon which is cool.

I wouldn't be too concerned.   Sounds like the Gods already rendered your penance.

Now the guy in the other post that said he doesn't much care for the Sand Scorcher...?????    Who knows what wrath awaits him....

It wasn't until recently that I gravitated towards classic VW Beetles..  I always thought they were cute cars and that's a good thing, but did not find the SandScorcher or any of the Tamiya Beetles to be attractive in my youth.   These days I adore them.. the Tamiya's and the 1:1 vintage restored cars I follow on IG.  They have so much character!

I think for some folks including me, one has to reach a certain age or maturity to appreciate the shape.
