Today I replaced almost all the steering components in my TT-02SR, got it running sweetly (it never was before) then expensively smashed the rear into a kerb 5 minutes later. Was a hard impact to bend a shaft and snap a metal mount in the way it did, even after using the wheel as a crumple zone.

Fingers crossed the chassis is OK. It looks OK. I'm impressed so far with the toughness of TT-02.

Then I got a few minutes with my M-08 before dark. I didn't have the daylight to lay out the postal racing course but I'm enjoying learning how to drive this thing. I guess this is normal road RWD stuff and a product of grippier rear tyres than front, but it's new to me. I've learned I have to go hard on the brakes to initiate a corner, but timed silly late because it straightens if you let it regain rear grip. Under power it understeers, but then if you touch an even slightly wet bit of road surface it does the opposite - tail loose as the rear tyres lose grip. Sounds silly when I describe it but it's logical. After all, who in their right mind would build a car with no front brakes? I do wonder though whether there's too big a difference between front and rear grip - softer tyres on the front as well might help. I have M grip front, S grip rear.

And I've got a little further with my budget rally TT-02 build.

It's not pretty, but I think it'll be pretty fun. Just awaits outdrives, a bit of soldering and some final patching up of body damage.

@Willy iine I really think you need to do more with your Mini Z 4x4 - with all the extra room you'll soon have you could build an amazing indoor course, just in time for your northern hemisphere winter!

We've all seen what you can do with styrene, imagine a miniature off-road course with all the detail and attention you put into everything else....

I put 3 stickers on my Blitzer Beetle.

It took hours, haha.

Which part of the process took the longest?   If it was the cutting portion, I never use scissors to cut the decals themselves.  I use a sharp Olfa knife and cut the decal and leave the liner in tact.  Much faster and precise process for me.  Then use tweezers to place, mild slip solution, micro squeegee, heat gun, etc.  For me decals go pretty quick unless I have like 120 to apply..

Here's the knife I use.. real basic but high quality blades.

And these jagged edges.. much easier to cut using a knife..

This was last year project, a bit older Subaru Rally model than the one in previous post, but then Family happened :), but this Summer!.

Planing to start the build now and save paint job for Summer time, not much Summer right mow with 30cm Snow though.

@Willy iine:). It the Subaru model that became my favorite when Solberg (also from Norway) used this model in his prime.

Another work in progress is my 1/24 Subaru models, Tiny decals and the paint job on the drivers took for ever, but im very happy with the result (still learning so far from a pro ofc). 1 off them without drivers are ready as you can see…

I must get the last 1/24 Model ready to (also been sitting there from last year). Its Tamiya Models ;)

So you prefer this over an Exacto knife with #11 blades?

Yes.  I only use the pointed blade for cutting clean circles for body mount holes after the decal has fully adhered to the body.  B)

I've done my usual trick; take a bodyshell which was cheap, apply livery which made sense in my head at the time, all along intending for it to become my 'car park drift basher' of a bodyshell. Then, in the course of putting it all together, rather fallen for it

I know such things can be unpopular 😉 but I'm most pleased with my 3d printed body posts with the front to back clip holes for my M-08 Ferrari Dino. I reckon they're just the ticket.

20230317_195417

Perfect fit, nice rounded top.  And now clips can't scratch the sticky uppy bits of the body.

Sadly though, the front posts are now much taller than the back ones, and that's just a hundred different shades of wrong.

I also got my budget rally build TT-02 rolling, then lost a front dog bone, then realised that tree is the one they didn't add as an unnecessary extra in the TT-02SR box so I can't just pop a spare in. But hey ho, it's only a stop gap til I get the bits to fit front CVDs anyway. Then it'll go round corners too. Oh, and the body cracked right across the door and windscreen. Without a crash. Well, not a proper one anyway, I mean it did roll, but very gently. This old shell has the structural integrity of one of those wafers you used to get in your ice cream. I might swap in my trusty red Escort shell which looks a bit rough but is tough as old boots. Then I can paint another one of those blue (or white) for the XV-01 and be two thirds of the way to a Ford version of the Italian Job. The last third being my still unbuilt XV-02. Three rally Escorts of mediocre finishing standard - I'd be like a really crap version of @Willy iine and his Minis (of which I'm unashamedly jealous).

Sorry for word vomit. 😘

@BuggyDad Nice job on the body posts!

Is making the same car repeatedly some sort of illness?  I find myself doing this a lot..   it's like I can't get enough goodness with just one car and start making variations of it and then it's like collect them all!    luckily I quickly run out of display space so there is a hard stop, but man.. this can't be normal?

For me today I binded 2 new receivers.. one for the regular Optima and Scorpion.. and checked out the contents of the kits and placed them on my shelf.  I am still missing a LeMans 490 motor for the Optima and yellow PS paint for the Scorpion.  While I wait, I think I'm going to work on the Optima's body..

@ChrisRx718 Nice job on the GT-R!  Looks good.  Have you considered doing a slammed dorifuto version as well?  I think it would go well with your theme too.  B)

I have no more memory left here to post 1000 dpi pictures, but I posted my Optima MID-Night concept on Instagram if interested in checking it out.   Kogawa-san gave me a thumbs up. #pretendrcshop

I loathe putting decals on.  (I actually painted the blobby 'splash' decals on my Blitzer Beetle to avert the disaster that would have happened if I had messed around with the corresponding decals)

All parts of the process take a long time for me, the biggest problem I have is little air bubbles, then don't often show themselves until it's too late.

I use a craft-knife for cutting and a hair dryer for setting (I sometimes use soapy water for big ones)

I ripped one of the Blitzer's decals slightly but managed to salvage it.

It once took me 5 days to put decals on a hornet, (I spent about 2 hours a day on it so about 10 hours altogether, that's how long I take.)

Put these in the tires for the Jimny, though the weather hasn’t been too cooperative to test them out.

Insurance claim sorted after the flood so today I was able to finish the orders for replacement cars. I've consolidated the cars and dropped some classes. BD11 replacing my TA07, TB05R (couldn't get a Pro) for my son, a secondhand TRf102 and I'll rebuild my other one too and new HB D8 and E8 buggies which are a month or so away. Also all the electronics to go with them - flash sanwa servos this time for most.

Also upgraded the radio so have a shiny new Sanwa M17. This was always going to happen as it works with all the Sanwa rx that are avaliable- if my MT4S died I'd need about 15 rx which would cost anhuge amount! That was the only splurge (other than the TB05R but what are you to do!)

It's a beautifull day out, so time to slap some electronics into the Jugger and do a garden testdrive.

It drove well for a monstertruck.
Turn radius was good on 4 wheel steering, large on 2 wheel steering, no suprises there.
Stable, did not flip on its side.
Speed is a bit on the slower side, nothing a 3S shorty LIPO won't fix, but for a fun truck that is not important.
And quite a bit noisy, that's probably a thing from those 90 degree angled gears on the gearboxes.

Oh well, pleased with it so far. ^_^

Good to hear you got your claim sorted!   Are you able to salvage the flooded RC cars at all?   I mean I've restored quite a few M38's that appeared to have gone into the sewer and back.. and yet they look quite new now and runs like new.    more cars to ya.

Nice choice on the M17.  I hear good things about them.

GL with the recovery!

For me today, I think I am going to work on the Optima body..

Nothing RC related I dropped my tablet on the tiled floor so that was the end of that:( it was coming to the end of its life because it wouldn’t download anymore updates so I invested in a new one after almost 10 years but getting these things up and running the way you want never is straight forward! So a lot of predictive text will be happening for the next couple of months:blink:
