Finished this, my QD with FJ45 body

I designed and printed a wheelie bar and front mount to attach the body to the QD chassis.

With a 12T brushless motor at 7800 kv a wheelie bar is very much needed.

Pretty sure the XV-01 stabilizer set is what Tamiya specs for the XV-02.   Hard to find without a huge mark up or overseas freight but the TAM54514 may help to tame your XV-02.

Thanks man, I'll definitely take a look.  The XV02-Pro sways a lot which looks scale while driving and I like that..so kind of a trade off, I suppose.  The car handles very well so it might be going faster than it seems.. I really like the long suspension stroke as it looks a lot more street car like than a typical sedan chassis.  And it's not like my car is set up like a 4x4.. lol

Honestly I put off building this car thinking I wouldn't be too thrilled driving it.. boy was I wrong!  I'm enjoying it more than my 420X as it's got that playful casual vibe and versatility of driving on rougher surfaces.   I think Tamiya did an excellent job on this chassis.  Mine is completely stock and unless something breaks I'm just going to keep it this way...well,, maybe get that sway bar.

And the Lancia just looks so good..  I can't wait to get those alloys on my blue car.

I may have got a tad carried away with my first attempt but I added CVAs, bearngs, aluminium  servo lowering arm, servo-saver, aluminium motor-guard and then swapped out the arms and linkages for longer ones to give a wider stance.

Now making a front tow hook for my Delta..

.. and swapped from 19t pinion to 21t.. better but the 21.5BL does not even get warm so probably needs 23-24t pinion.. speed is still only sort of quick, but the sway overwhelms the suspension when pushed so I think I’m just going to keep it this way for now

I am planning to do the oil change on my GR Supra tomorrow.  Today, taking the Golf-R out for a nice weekend drive.  :D

I hope to finish the Delta later today..

Edit.. speaking of the XV02-Pro, I ordered 24-25 teeth pinions last night.  I read folks were running 26-27 so the stock 19teeth pinion is definitely for brushed motor, I think.

Nice job @Nikko85!  You got a really nice collection of custom one-off FJ40's.

Thank you, really got lucky finding a body that fits the QD, GF01 and MF01X!

I have one more truck in the works then I think that's me for the foreseeable.

I had a lovely drive through the Yorkshire countryside, sunroof open, listening to good music until I arrived in Otley where Modelsport removed some of much money in exchange for this…….

Nice choice @Ministrone!   I think all Beetle RC fanatics should own both this and the SandScorcher.  :D

The Kyosho Beetle drives considerably better than the SRV... mainly from the overall better suspension design including the semi-trailing front arms which provide negative camber.. I believe.

But then I believe in all sorts of weird things so..

I hoped for a tow hook so my ask was answered using eyeballed with hope technologies..   And yes, those wheels are aluminum..

Fun in the sun. Ran these two at the park. Lovely day for it

20230408_172945

Also tried an old Hornet shell on Ultra G

20230408_184313

The tub is a little wide in the middle, but with the inline front body post a Hornet body would fit no problem. And using the GH2 for these conversions is much easier than a Hornet tub.

Wow, That is stunning! That’s convinced me not to go box art.

I’ve never built a Kyosho kit so I’m looking forward to trying one. Strangely I’m not a massive fan of the VW beetle but now I own three models of the things 🤣

Finally finish the TT02 and took it out for it's first drive on a lovely spring day. The body looks great now it's got a little mud on it to help cover up some of my dodgy sticker application! I hadn't thought about the number of stickers involved when we chose it! We built it stock as a joint project with my son, but we definitely need to swap out the pogo sticks for something better, he wasn't too impressed with the bouncing. We set up the postal racing track and took it round that to test it out a bit. It seems much more suited to that kind of track than the dt-03 is, so hopefully with some better dampers we might start to be a bit more competitive. Any tips on which dampers to go for?

Thanks!   Haha, yeah, I was never much of a Beetle fan until like 2-3 yrs ago when something clicked.  :D

GL with the build.  That car is easy to build and very nice.   I became a big fan of Kogawa-san’s vintage cars.

You guys reminded me, Dad and I need to get his Caravan and my 200 over to the dealership for their oil changes!

Oh, I just resurrected both of my Wheely Kings in the last couple days, the hearse is VXL powered with 4 wheel steering and the XJ has an old XL5 and Trailmaster Sport 45t 550 motor, both are flipped and stretched while the XJ is also locked on both ends too.

I always wanted gf01 chassis.. and land cruiser body is something i liked most which is not too common. For usd $120, i had to get it. I plan to get another spare body (same one or somethinf else) ..

in terms of hopups, i plan to go with bearings, and alloy shocks :)

The GF01 is such a fun chassis and you can do plenty with it too via hop-ups and interchangeable parts. I’ve ended up with quite a lot of them which I’ve used as the base for different custom builds.

The FJ40 was VERY hopped-up. Stupidly so to be honest!

52025078323_1b0e5cac62_b.jpg

The army one I actually narrowed the trackwidth:

Army-204

But the van I widened:

The FJ40 shell looks great but it’s pretty fragile. If you’re looking for a second body I would go with something else or at least use a decent amount of reinforcement tape inside.

So this is more of a rant than what I did today. But it will end up relevant.

I don’t know about you guys. But I run my cars at a track where everyone runs brushless Losi’s, Arrma’s, and Traxxas. I show up and run one of my “antique” silvercan Tamiya’s, and generally it’s a wheelie. I’m always the laughing stock for owning and driving the RC cars that I never could afford in my youth. I get sick of the trash talking morons…

So now I’m considering buying one of these and throwing a Castle 5700kv brushless setup in it to whoop some butts with a Tamiya!!!

Yea the sticker count can be crazy! But you did a good job. I'd go with some of the aluminum dampers. Tamiya CVAs are okay but the set that I built for my TT-01, despite being built to spec, didn't have much travel.

As for what I did today, I did some work on the Slash, and took the Gravedigger Beetle out for another spin.

Of all of the vintage/re-res I've had this one has to be my favorite, by virtue of being good at jumping, not getting bogged down too badly in grass, and having decent handling. Not to mention the stylish chassis.

I think you should just ignore them, out in the public (away from the too serious crowd) no one will judge you for playing with something old.

I like your TT-02BR idea but I'd get a DF-02 rear diff as your first upgrade!
