Body is done.  Will work on the chassis tomorrow.   This car is a visual copy of my outdoor-only Scorpion.  However, I only plan to run Sport Tuned motor and basic electronics as I don't need so much performance driving indoors on my make shift track.   Electronics on this car will be a JX high speed servo, rebadged 1060, Sport Tuned, and SR215 receiver.

My outdoor car runs 1251MG, XR10 Justock, Le Mans 240S (19.5), and SR215..

My iPad is showing my Instagram page for comparison.  I am going to do the same on the Corsa Gray Beetle.  B)

Beautiful job as always. I've never tried a sport tuned but I am surprised to hear 19.5t brushless beats it. I had the impression sport tuned would be quite fruity?

And you set a Hornet class lap record while you were there obviously 😉

That’s a good point! They can’t have had any Tamiya hornets on that race circuit? So whatever you ran has set the lap record for hornets around the Canadian Grand Prix circuit!…………well done:D! I would say Norris mcwhirter will be along shortly with your certificate from Guinness World Records (it’s a uk thing back in the 70s) but unfortunately he’s no longer with us! God rest his soul!

And there's me thinking a 4mm turnbuckle wrench would fit on 4mm flats.

20230427_074406

Not at 3.5mm it won't. Am I missing something here?

It was cheap enough (and from a shop that does great service - prefer not to bother them) that I'd be tempted to file it back to size but I don't really have a method to do that to a reliably flat finish.

Just thinking out of the box here! But wouldn’t it be that bit smaller so it grips better? Or does it not go on at all?

Overspray film?

I will find out tomorrow when I get started on the stickers.

I recently purchased tamiya x4 blue paint and it was the same with that, it was really really dark blue, almost black.

I have a standard silver can on my box art Scorpion and it is pretty slow.. like no pep.

The 19.5 BL is quite spirited which appears to be the sweet spot for the chassis.  Were you thinking SuperStock as in BZ?  The 19.5 BL is night and day faster than a SportTuned motor and tons more torque..(?)

I am hoping the SportTuned is quick.. Kogawa-san appeared to like the idea so I think this should be a good match for the early 80’s car.. when the LeMans 490’s are back in stock I plan to swap them, just for the sake of brand orientation.

I am running the G14L (14 turn brushed) on the Beetle.  Seems to be plenty fast for outdoors for me.

Finished a Blitzer Beetle build recently and immediately wanted to do a street build with the same body. I don't understand why Tamiya have never offered this off the shelf, or even just a mounting kit to put it on an M-chassis. Built an M06 last week and got a Scorcher body today. Now I have to decide how to mount it and come up with some wheels for it.

Doesn't go on at all. Well, it didn't, 'til I attacked it with a file. Had to take off quite a lot of material before it would go on at all.

I don't know really. I haven't got any faster brushed motors, it's more just that I reckon my 17.5t brushless isn't all that much quicker than torque tuned, and I had assumed sport tuned would be quite a lot quicker than torque tuned since TT is a kit stock motor.

Cut the 6mm aluminium pipe that I tried and failed to use for the Jugger's rollcage in 8 pieces to cover the M4 threads on the suspension arms. Also cut 2 small pieces of 10mm pipe for exhausts. Planning to strip down the entire chassis for a clean before 'final' assembly.

(As we all know, nothing is ever finally assembled .)

Today was an expensive day.  Two Plaza Japan orders for mostly TD4 Hop-Ups but also a set of Big Bore Aeration dampers for my upcoming TD2 build.  Plus a Tamico order for the TD4 itself, Big Bore Aeration Damper springs, a Blockhead Motors bumper for my Wild One Blockhead and a few other small parts.

Phew!

Sorry UK LHSs, I use several of you on a regular basis but this time the savings are too good to pass up :( Just the Avante Black Special to get now, but given that another batch is due to land in the next month or two I think there will be a deal to be had somewhere.  I'm not paying the UK price of £500 for one so it may be a Tamico order again...

Yeah, by RPM that is probably correct.. BL shines when geared very low ratio.

Oh ok! So quite a bit out then?

Almost there.. going to do the tire lettering next.  And if I like the Sport Tuned on  this car, will swap the LeMans decals with something else.

Update.. going to mount and take the car out for a test drive on my make shift track.  :D

Final update for this car.  I will post a reel on IG, but not here as it’s basically the same car as the one I posted a week or so ago..  very minor differences if looked at closely.

Sport Tuned is considerably slower than the 19.5 BL, but I dialed negative expo on the throttle as it appears these rebadged 1060 have super modulation unnecessary for buggies.  Car drives briskly and I like that.

Here is the ending shot of the reel.  :D

Did a bit more on nose cone mk2 and put markings on the body and wingIMG_4216.jpg
IMG_4215.jpg
IMG_4214.jpg will look better once it has some paint on it. The angle is a little sharp but I’m not going to change it now. It is fixed to the front bumper so the body can be taken off as normal.

Dirt master is right up my Alley

The usual thing happened on the way to work I called into my LHS to buy something very inexpensive (masking tape for corners) and he was unpacking the dirt masters! Say no more:wacko:! Other than I’ve got to give my LHS a wide birth for quite a while! Although it’s 95% plastic the quality is superb!

What are your plans for it? What motor are you going for? Any hop ups?

El Kid asked if we could do some monster truck building this evening. Not much time before bed (he's only eight) but he sorted out the parts to assemble the gearboxes for his Monster Mutt Dalmatian Dual Hunter.

We stripped his car down last summer in anticipation of a rebuild - looks like we are finally starting!

Had a run through the boxes of bits. The Firebolt motors were too hot for the ESC but I found the two Hackmoto (?!) 21T cans that originally came with the truck. The leads need resoldering but I have the kit for that now. Realised that whilst I have new suspension arms and hubs, I need the screw pins...

I have absolutely no idea whether to go brushed or brushless probably brushless and I’ve been looking at the option house shocks etc and at those prices they can stay in Kyosho’s option house! So I’m probably going to learn more about it because I genuinely don’t know which way to go with it<_<?  it’ll be a while before I get around to building it by then I’ll know what’s going in it but I think it looks so cool;)

Makes sense. Mine should be here next week and I can't decide how to go with it either. Although I do have a few hop ups coming from Banzai at some point so well see. Might try a nice 90's themed paint job...

I haven't driven a RC in 3 weeks, so I'm looking forward to a hopefully dry Sunday - boating, crawling and then watching my 15yo's basketball game later in the day.

In the meantime I gave up waiting for Traxxas to finally have the (plastic) low range gears for the TRX-4M, so I ordered the Injora (metal) ones, as well as 9% overdrive for the front, and 17% underdrive for the rear. It should make a substantial difference (and slightly more noise I suspect). I'll find out in a few weeks when the parts arrive!

@Sogogi Looks good.  Hey, where is Billy, the driver?!   Is your FJ autonomous?    ;)

So for me, I figured out the 490 LeMans for my latest Scorpion.. Decided to run one of the TurboScorpion with a 19.5 BL and give the 490 to the Scorpion I finished today.   Ordered new 240S motor and new XR10 today.  B)
