What colour is it going to be do you know?

Posted

PINK, BLUE, BLACK, & CHROME-OR-SILVER (not typical TRF flames/tribal though)

I just gotta figure out how to make a good metallic turquoise color on the body. I'm thinking a dusting of PS16 followed by a backing of something lighter.

I wish the fluro pink wheels came out better in the photos.

A really good Tamiya day today, actually did some jobs on some models.

Started to strip down and clean up my 2nd hand Blizter Beetle, it needs tyres front and back which I hadn't budgeted for, but I had a spare pair of rears from a job lot I bought recently.

I sold my Monster Beetle which was a shame to see it go, but I have more than enough projects and runners too keep me busy.

I sold a Kyosho chassis which came in the job lot too.

I bought a sprue for my Blackfoot to replace the front lower arm that I broke on holiday.

And I fitted a vintage front bumper and rear cage to my recent vintage Scorcher purchase and I had both these parts of spares, so very, very happy with today!!!

Retail therapy. Paid Stella a quick visit and ordered a Bullhead. Something I gagged at on first release until I saw one in person in '93 and have been wanting ever since.

I think I will do a Super Pete replica, but the later yellow version, after the truck had passed it's prime of it's life. With the yellow under bits and a black Clod chassis, I'll be happy with that.

Been looking at brushless systems for last few days. Today I bought one for a good price, wrapped in an Associated B4 which was a Brucey bonus :D

Tidied up the hobby room a little..

Optima Mid Custom project progressed by cutting the undertray and body - final fit and rear wing to do

Optima Mid project #2 boxed up as it was getting silly having two on the work desk!

Optima project box up and put away until work space allows

Put a new XL2.5 ESC into the merv - finally got it working again, after almost 11 months waiting attention and swapping bits around. Got a brushless system on route for this one too, so that will give it a nice bit of pep ;)

Bought more RC stuff :( this is what happens every time i create a bit of space

Optima mids, it took a while to find a wing I liked. The original was ok but I wanted something with more curves to it.

I took these two out and ran them around a while. They both did real well. The optima needed new diffs, belt, body, wing, tires and wheels so it's taken a bit to get it in running order.

I put better tire and wheels on the RC10 and stuck in a Duratrax/ Castle 3900KV four pole. It likes the motor combo a lot.

Background chassis is the latest buy.

Made a discovery today that could improve how any LEDs look on your kits.

I was stripping down my Axial Dingo bodyshell ready for painting the exterior of the lexan, and gave it a quick coat of Humbrol Matt varnish as I've found it helps the paint to stick. I had intended to mask the LEDs in the bodyshell first but in my rush I forgot and realised the mistake halfway through. I figured I can easily clean them up with cellulose thinners later and so finished the Matt coat.

Once dry I was about to clean them and thought "I'll just see what it looks like first" and was pleasantly surprised with the effect. The Matt varnish helps diffuse the light much like a pearl effect light bulb and you loose that centre pin point of light you often get with LEDs. They now look much more like real scale lights.

Pics don't really do it justice but here you go.

It only took 5 different wings to find this one. It's a Jconcepts #0123....2 for 10 dollars.

Still needs to be clearcoated:

Happy with the minimal orange peel so far considering its going to be winter soon,

So didnt have to warm the body with the paint.

Now when I clear coat it and rub it back it should hopefully be like glass. :)

Bit more work on the Dingo Landrover, painted the outside of the shell, wheels and inner shell with black. I also filled in between the interior decals with black paint, I think it helps define the inside & outside better.

I'm quite happy with how the rear LEDs turned out, just need to paint the orange lenses and white reversing light.

The more I do to this chassis the more that sloppy CC01 steering is bugging me. Time to move the steering servo up front and work out a direct steering set up me thinks :)

There is a lot easier way to sort the steering . Recess two 1150 bearings either end of the through tube , make a shaft and cut keys either end . Then you need to heat the shaft and press on the horns (used the gas stove lol). Works a treat . Details on the how to are on Tamiyausa mate . BTW any idea what your going to do with the grill ?
Posted

Bromvw did you do that with the standard plastic kit parts or get a metal upgrade kit and then fix the issues with it?

Grill wise I don't want to cut anymore holes in the front and weaken it. So the plan is paint the background gun metal, then use some alum grill mesh like a mask and spray on Matt black. That will give me a radiator grill effect. I'll then cut out the basic flat plate grill seen on the military landys from a sheet of white vinyl, spray it sand colour and stick it on top. That will hopefully give me the look I want.

Applied some custom decals to the Gran Turismo Pace car :)

Based on a Tamiya Nismo Z-Tune, the red, white, silver and black were all carefully masked off.

The sirens work and the lights front and rear work in a chase setup like the car from the game.

Not a shelf queen, it has been run and it has the scars to prove it!

I had a pretty productive day. Went to the first swap meet of the summer and got rid of the Emaxx, savage,M05, Ultima, frog and 2 hornet chassis. I couldn't help but bring home a couple. I got a F201 with about every hopup you can get for 50 and a Kyosho Suzuki for 35. The bike needs work to look good but everything is there. What is up with the white striped 201 tires? Never seen them before

Got my toyota Gr.B out & cleaned it up . Put in the Centre Differential set , As it didn't come with one Grr .

Put a new front diff housing , as the other was split .

Now what to do today ??....

Prep'd and painted optima mid body, wing and undertray. First colour bled under the masking tape but managed to sort 90% of it before the second colour. Still miffed after the hours it took to cut and prep it all :(

Went racing for the first time at a local club and raced in the stockcar class ( full contact) I did ok for the first time at any race track haha. I really enjoyed it all the guys were pretty helpful although I'm pretty sure they picked on me a bit lol.

I blame this recent venture on TC member type49rs as I met him for the first time a few weeks ago while he was in the area racing and it got me hooked. As they say the rest is history

Strictly speaking yesterday now, but i managed to get 95% of the decals completed on my Optima Mid Custom, and finished the day off by buying a RC10 Team Car :D
