Had a good morning out in the park before work starts. I've got to drop the little one off at the nursery at 7.30 and WFH starts at 10.00, so I have a little time to go to the park.

I took out two cars, the new MF01x with a LR body and my trusty 12T brushless Toyota Quick Drive.

I am running the MF01x with a 13T pinion and Sand Scorcher rears all round. I'm trying to run it as something that can do a bit of everything. Rather than play around with lower turn motors I've now saved two settings on the RX, one with 50% steer and throttle for concrete (to avoid roll overs and having to feather the throttle) and then a 100% mode for dirt and large open areas. This way it can run as a nice trial truck and also a mini basher depending on surface and needs.

tESaL1n.jpg

On trail truck mode it was great. Only 50% power, but still fast enough to be fun and nice to blast over concrete and short grass.

8ZLXWIi.jpg

I was running it here, the area has got a paddling pool (dry) and short grass. Lots of planters and the rocks in the pool are concreted solid, so you really have to be careful. Trail truck mode was great here, just the right speed so it was fun without having the walk on eggshells, so to speak.

I went to the BMX track, so moved to the full power/dirt mode on the Tx. Here I could let rip without worrying about having to throttle down all the time.

8WlqVR9.jpg

The truck was amazingly well balanced over the jumps. It wasn't getting massive air but pretty good for a simple MF01x. The sand paddles were great on this surface with all four wheel giving great grip.

6JK7Xmk.jpg

I also took out the QD which has a brushless 12T motor. Way too fast for the small area. Also too much power for the BMX track, it seemed to also have most fun around 40% power otherwise it would donut. I've got a 18T version on AA batteries which is slower but nicer to drive on the BMX track.

k8qwrDI.jpg

I tried to take a jump photo but the car wasn't really very stable and very hard to keep straight, let alone with one hand. The 12T QD really comes alive on the large flat dust pitch but that was being used as a car park as they set up for a festival.

Nothing broke, but I did have the MF01x dropping to half power. Although the jumper for NiMH was on it seems the prongs can work loose which tells the car it's in LiPO. I pushed out the prongs  a little to ensure full contact, and once the car realised it was back on NiMH it went perfectly.

The MF01x is definitely one of my favourite cars now. I am tempted to try and move a 370 motor into the QD just as it's too lively otherwise, or reduce voltage perhaps.

Completed a long ago started father daughter build.

Alfa Romeo Romeo Giulia GTA / TAMIYA 58486  - M-06 - Near box art but with a Motorsport two tone front as wanted to try something different. I did a bit of masking and hand painting for the lamp bezels and it entire grill. The Alfa decal I photocopy scan printed to have a third on the rear which I love to see on Alfas. Overall the paint results vary but it looks great from a few meters away. This is the last time it will look this “shelf” like as it’s a runner and out of my hands haha 😂😅

Front logo has 3D clear depth to it -
One new thing I tried was with the front grill Alfa Romeo logo after applying the decal I added a generous dab of what would be the equivalent of clear resin but completely odorless and water based. “Crystal Glass” MIG-0094 ammo mig paint hobby paint. A bit hard to capture on photos but it’s there… for the dads to know it’s optimized to the best it can be scale wise 😂😃.

Otherwise it’s a box stock build with bearings, Savöx servo, Torque Tuned / Tamiya esc with a deans a connector to Lipo. I do the lipo handling / monitoring / charging. It’s very lively and simple!

yesterday I spent at least an hour and half, in a state of rapidly increasing anxiety, searching for a really important part of my latest build. It was a J3 shown here:

image.png.98d1448ff95db23d54ac6420a5ab1f43.pngItt

I looked everywhere - in every single corner of my garage (all 4 of them, corners that is, not garages) in every kit box and spares box but I could not find it anywhere. I could find one of them, just not the other.

Distraught and disheartened, I gave up, resigned to having to try and find one online somewhere.

Going back to the manual to find the part number of the sprue I looked again at the images. "How can there be 2 of those when they both have screw holes through to the plate?"

Some time later, after more looking at pictures, photos of the original car and some intensive head scratching it finally dawned on me.....

There aren't two are there.

They have just flipped the part to show where you trim it.

I've just spent all that time looking for a part I already had....

I clearly need a holiday.

@jonboy1 I've had my share of those days.. !

For me, worked on a few projects in my garage this morning before WFH..had a great time.  I mainly worked on fabricating a new low profile mounting bracket on my ebike's chain guard as the guard kept catching my pants while riding on windy days, installed a cool aluminum hood (bonnet) latch release lever on my GR Supra, and drove my Scorpion with new rear tires (medium compound vs soft) outdoors.  B)

Finished the 2nd set of wheels for the Jugger. Got the chassis 80% build up but I need to find a nice way to route the cables from front to back so those are out of sight.

Still need to re-design the battery box so it can also hold the ESC.

Ordered white and transparent blank sticker sheets and an inkjet printer so I can start work on the custom decals.

So plenty of work left, I never realised these custom builds are so much more work compared to building a kit straight from the box.

@Ray_ve I call them one-off cars and they are very rewarding at the end!  Kit cars are cool, but when you add something original to it, it makes a HUGE difference.  B)

Speaking of which, for me, got back from my ebike ride and got to test my new fabricated bracket.   Worked very well.  :D

I think I've finally got my TRX4M sorted - new servo (the third one) has finally arrived. I actually crawl rocks with mine, so I'm interested to see how long @Sogogi can make his last.

Also, I think someone's got the scale factor 10/10 on this G601 kit...

ESCs received, fitted and a first outdoor test drive done.

It drives alright but what is shown is full speed, id like a bit more speed for and noticeably more torque, it doesnt want to do a one track turn on a diamond pattern foam mat ive got so it would never be able to handle grass.

Its already very geared down, about as much as i can do with the current drive line, yellow gearboxes for 130 motors with 48:1 reduction and then 2:1 from the gearboxes to the drive axles for a total of 96 to 1.

Not sure what a next step for power would be, more speed isnt as necessary as more torque.

Anyone have some ideas that might work?

@Ziddan cool tank!  Have you looked at Mini-Z motors?  Some of them are insanely powerful.

For me, going to audition in my head which cars stay in my pretend RC shop and which cars move to the expansion (or into basement storage) next room over.  I am also thinking about removing the Tamiya banner on the wall and replacing with a large flat screen as well this summer..

Hope you’ve got plenty of display space!! That’s going to be big, not quite as big as the 1/32 Lancasters and Mitchell but big nonetheless!!!

Inktjet printer and glossy sticker paper came in today, so had a few test-runs, printing the custom stickers for the Jugger.

After some tinkering, the results look promising! I have some test stickers now and I'm going to spray those with Tamiya TS clear paint to see what works best.
Stick to the Jugger's body first than clear coat, or clear coat the body first and add stickers later. The latter will have the advantage that stickers can be changed later if desired....

Gone through the pile of left over stickers to make the Stadium Truck a bit more stadium-truckish. Also lowered the body a bit and made a spoiler.

Now Petter Solberg can take it for a spin again, new wheel Axl, universal shaft & Ball diff in the rear (old gearbox in front). Already notice diffrence ofc but i will probably need to tighten the ball diff a notch because its Loose.

And everything i do is ofc tips from this forum, that goes for lubricant to ofc , this stuff is amazing compared to the sticky stuff is included, the gears runs super smooth, do not remember who gave the tip but thanks, now out and test when Lipo is ready

So. Had a free day so I decided you know what?Lets use my shelfers. Albeit carefully.

I charged up a 4200mah NIMH and ran a few old Tamiyas. All of these have an MSC and a 27mhz Radio. I only spent a few minutes with each, just on a block paved 9m x 6m drive way.....

First, a TA-01 with a bashed Evo WRC Shell. Wasnt too fused about banging this up, but it was quite intermittant so didnt use it much. The old original compound tyres actually made this quite fun but it was oh so slow.

Next up. My favourite. The TL-01 Focus. This seemed a bit peppier than the Evo despite the same MSC and Silver Can?

hJx4RQt.jpeg

Finally. The Repsol Cosworth TA-02. This is in absolutely mint condition to be fair so I didnt wanna bang this up.

Howvever, despite having an MSC and Silver can it felt like a rocket ship compared to the above. This is more like it, reminded me of younger times as a cul de sac terrorist!!

After the fun I had, I decided to see what something more modern was like. I dont know why but Ive got 2x TT-02s that are currently shelfers. Never used. Now although this is an R variant, no idea why I consider this so precious....

So. Lets go.

ufYLLyc.jpeg

Over priced Radio aside. This is a budget set up. 1060 ESC and an RZ brushed motor. Servo is a cheap SRT, and its a 2S HPI Plazma lipo.

I found an empty Doctors Surgery car park.

WOW. Honestly, most fun Ive had in ages. Was just making my own circuit, was impressed with the handling of a box stock 02R! And it was fast! How fast? Welll

I stuck the GPS on and

Rm6lR5c.jpeg

it was flat. So no speed reading 😂

I drive/drifted/jumped for 20 minutes. The shell isnt great, i grip rolled and broke the wing 🥲

Not so pretty now

Genuinely. So much fun.
