If anyone in the USA is interested, both amain and Tower are offering 15% off promo's for Hobbywing products.   I bought a couple of ESC's and other electronics for my upcoming projects.

@matisse I'm officially doing the translucent red + gunmetal body Kyosho Beetle.  :D   Thanks for the tip.  It's going to be near late June as I need to wait for my alloy wheels to arrive.  It's going to look killer.  B) .. I hope..

Walked into my LHS to grab some paint and a cutting mat today in what was supposed to be a light trip.  Got ambushed by another XV-02 that was offered to me for a super good price....

Thanks Willy!  Judging by how your builds come out though I'm looking forward to seeing your XV01!

Actually... The 6yo did. And he was in tears :o.

💩 happens. Hopefully it was doing what Blitzers love to do and he had fun!!!

He was ripping around the playground at the end of our street. Kicking up dust and jumping curbs. I think he hit the pole of a children's slide or something.

Told him it was no big deal and I would order some new parts to fix it.

Painted the Jugger's bed and body with 2 clear coats, looking sharp! ^_^

Re-assembling the Jugger's bed, and applying the first custom stickers.

Need to connect the LED lights.

And misplaced the angled brackets for the grille mounting, so need te do a search...

But overall, progress!

If that was my kid I would tell him to give me 50 (push ups) ;) jk

So after a quick break (I should say quick rest..), going to work on my XV01 today.  I just got back from my weekend drive in my 1:1 car and detailing her.

Half term refit of my lad's DT-03.

20230528_161739

New gearbox bousing, lower arms, drive shafts, motor and ESC. And hex screws and suspension shafts. Old sensorless ESC was knackered and it's developed monumental suspension slop through wear. Also a test of whether he can do pretty much every bit of it. May even see if he can hold a soldering iron 😬

Actually yesterday had a test run with the TD4-T conversion for about 60 seconds. Then one of the front uprights broke after a bad landing and the test run was over. Would be a good opportunity to swap to aluminium ones but unfortunately therevis nothing available.

Today I bashed my TT-02 rally build through the backyard. Was fun but almost too much for the car. Even the freshly mowed lawn is not a good surface for a TT-02.

You are kidding, right?

:D

I'm not punishing a 6yo for breaking one C-hub in almost a year of driving. Him being in tears clearly showed he knew something had gone wrong.

Ow. And he even said I could use his savings for the repair if I did not have enough money.

Lots of small parts..  mixed feelings on the XV01.. it's cool for the uniqueness (like the steering knuckles, how the gearbox mates to the chassis), but not sure if it needs to be this overly complicated rest of the car.  It almost seems like the car was designed with vague targets and used all sorts of shims later to make it right.

XV02-Pro was pretty fun to build.. this car feels more like a chore.. like the reason why I appreciate RTR's.  Maybe cool for beginners or for someone that has not built many RC cars, but seems overly complicated for something that probably doesn't need to be.  And these JIS screws are annoying, hex is the way to go for these kinds of chassis where there are counter sunkscrews on the bottom.  But this is just me.  B)

I heard from my IG buddy that the electronics is even more annoying to install..(?)   Wish me hope please..

I am kidding, but I am a pretty experienced parent so I probably react differently now that I've seen how my kids react to so many different things so many times so many years.  I don't get emotional when my kids are sad any more..I feel it's an opportunity to slip a joke in there to cheer them up or a word of encouragement to teach them the moment.  Parents too grow with their kids.   I am on my last leg and can't wait to kick my kids out of the house and watch them take off on their own as men.  :D

It would be nice to have an up scale version with a bit of carbon here and there, aluminum shocks and hex screws. (NB someone makes a carbon double deck chassis for it.)pm

For me, I tend to forget the screw thing - I never used the JIS ones, I just check through the manual for stock and occasionally order from a hardware supplier to cover any shortfall and stock up on the common sizes.

Electronics box is unnecessarily tight for height of an ESC with fan. I later fitted a slightly taller 3d printed one in its place and there's plenty of room in that. I guess some might also see it as tight for battery wire/connector but having got that how I wanted I found I quite like it. I expected not to like the battery door but found in regular running use I'm quicker with it than body clips, battery retainers, straps etc on my M-08, TT-02 or Mid.

Boxing electronics in gives a neat appearance but it is plain. And although I like the idea of boxing stuff in there are still various opportunities for grit and gravel to jam XV-01 steering, so arguably if you're going to take on dirt ingress in a design it seems odd not to solve it in steering too.

Otherwise there is a lot of plastic but I think it's functionally good. Decent performing and good for heavy use, rather than high end, I suppose. I guess it's loved for its rally driving characteristics, and chassis appearance and materials are largely ignored by its fans, because those aspects are adequate for its use case.

So for me, it's not a pretty chassis to look at but I can see why it's liked. I like mine because it suits me how it drives and it's easy to live with.

@BuggyDad Thanks for the insight.  I will be running a 1060 and SuperStockBZ so I hope I can get everything in there tidy.. but I did forget to order the high torque servo saver so not sure how the factory horn will work..

I bought this car as my outdoor expendable basher (got it super cheap) so as long as it runs okay, I’d be happy.   I have zero spare parts for it too..  not that I plan on crashing..
