Today I officially joined the Vintage Club… Spent a couple of happy hours with @Grumpy pants blathering on happily about RC cars and TC. So intense was the conversation we were oblivious to the rainstorm that was going on around us. Needed water wings to get home with😂

So onto the Vintage Club, I went to see Simon to pick up a Mk1 Scorcher that he had recently acquired. It’s a bit of a mess but having stripped down the front end it’s maybe not as bad as it first looks IMG_0006.jpg
IMG_0007.jpg
IMG_0008.jpg . Not quite sure how far I will restore it. I may end up using some re re parts where they fit, I might also go to some form of direct steering because I’m sure back in the day people would have done that kind of mod. Anyhow I need to fully strip it and get the sonic cleaner going and see what I end up with. A happy day for me, took my mind of the last couple of weeks that haven’t been great for me. Thanks Simon!!!

What on earth is going on with the loop thing in front of the VW badge?

The body will be basically left as it is. The near side A pillar is buckled slightly and there is a crack in the roof just behind that. I may try and massage it with some heat as the windscreen doesn’t fit properly. I’ll also give it a clearcote to preserve it.  @Scorchio that is a very good question about the loop. I have no idea 🤷‍♂️. Anyone got any thoughts????

Great plan. Look forward to seeing the results!

Is that loop so you can hang it from your Christmas tree?

I think it’s a pinch point to lift the front of the shell off the body post or a hanging/storage loop.

Could be. I may leave it just because it’s there!!!

I would, part of its heritage imo and it’s not causing any harm + it makes an interesting talking point.

If you’re going to run it and the windows aren’t already broken they are worth a few quid and will be brittle, maybe stick some ReRe windows in there instead?

Yep, being that close to the front body mount hole, it seems like a good place to tie a string as a tether for a body pin.

My esc in my slash was just flying around because it couldnt stay in place and so the sensor cable also fell out.The solution to the problem was this proffessional art of engineering

I took my own advice and replaced my "budget" TT-02, with a "budget-er" TT-01E, and learned how different shells can effect weight distribution (this one adding weight to the front obviously).

On a side note, I like the Eurotuck kits both for the detail and for something a bit different. Expect to see this one run in the postal races!

I recently reached (50) 540 size brushed motors, and organized them into multiple display cases last night into this morning:

I haven't done much RC lately (a little bit of boating on Sunday, a little bit of micro crawling yesterday), but last week, after my wife and I recovered from the dreaded 'rona we finally got to enjoy our night away to Lorne on Victoria's (aptly named) Great Ocean Road.

I took the MX5 and it proceeded to rain (almost) the whole way there, and all night, and then in the morning, until there was a 2-3 hour window where it only rained a bit! I got out the Bronco, and drove it around for a bit (beachside rocks are great for crawling), and then moved on to the next spot, and then got out the Jimny to have a go of that, only to realise I'd grabbed the wrong remote! Whoops! At least I was able to enjoy the Bronco :-)

Stopped by the LHS and picked up a set of JConcepts "Golden Years" tires for a project I definitely don't need, nor have the time for.  ;)

I finished the WildOne and took it out for a spin on my pylon test course today.   While the stock suspension is brutally stiff, the car drives well.  :D   I swapped pinion to 18 teeth, but still at the border of the 3 second rule after 10 mins of driving.  I think this car is better with a BL.. not that I have any plan to swap motors (currently running Sport Tuned).

The black 1060 that came with the kit performs similarly to the 1060's sold separately with the red heat sinks so I was happy about that.  B)

I would like to get an aluminum bumper for the car down the road.. or make one like I did for the Fast Time Attack Vehicle..

I will be taking some snaps soon and post on Instagram if anyone is interested.  Not that my car is any different from anyone else's WildOne.   #pretendRCshop

I ran it one time. I smoked the slipper clutch, and got very tired of putting it back on its tires. The ESC and motor were also roasting at the end of that run. I did a slipper eliminator, BLX motor mount and heat sink, 32p gears, Typhon arms and camber links, mounted a fan on the ESC and made the harness for the cooling fans. The test run was flawless. It never flipped over, but the motor was still roasting.

The other thing I did was make the lead for the discharger on the right. These things have come a long way from the old Deans ones like on the left.
