One day ill pluck up the courage to start it. What brand of paint pen do you use?

Posca. They're really easy to work with.

Likewise, Posca paint pens - they're often on some kind of discount from Amazon too.

If you don't use them for extended periods of time they do seem to dry out though. Then you shake them like a mad man trying to get the paint to 'flow' out of the tip again, only to end up with a huge blob of the stuff all at once

The Pumpkin had a quick blast on the dirt/gravel area at my local park

vCsVHfJ.jpg

For this location it really needs something faster than the Torque Tuned, but it's still a hoot to drive around. The mini spike rears work really nicely on this surface, as the 3D printed upgrades really give it a boost compared to stock handling. One of my favourite vehicles!

I got a couple more steps in this morning.  Passed bench test.  I just need to mount the wheels and tires and should be good to go for a test drive.  B)

NiMH sport pack fit just fine.

PJ sent an email letting me know the 22mm suspension shafts I wanted for the DT03 were back in stock for just £2.04.

So, naturally, I ordered £120 worth of stuff. Just to make the postage worth it, you know, I was actually saving money. I don’t have a problem, honest.

I picked up a 1/20 mini bandit for my 1 year old after my wife said the Tamiya were too big. I almost went for some cheaper modern trucks but got the bandit cheap. I should be able to do an hobby grade conversion if I feel it need it!

Lots of nice 1/20 taiyo and Nikko for him, will keep the bigger stuff locked away for a while!

After being crook all week & only being able to do Fusion 360 tutorials while I found the energy to be awake, today I thought I should go through the TA03R/F parts I have. I stripped the R recently to rebuild, but I also have maybe 90% of an F too. 2x FRP chassis also & some other hop ups. Pulled it all out & suddenly lost interest.. My son was asking about the Lunchbox recently, so thought I should have a look at it, & another chassis I have on the shelf. Started digging through boxes in my man cave to find another 2x Lunchboxes, well, maybe 1.85, there's a few more parts needed. I have a Unimog body & 2x Midnight Pumpkin bodies that I bought ages ago, all in lexan. So I essentially have 4x CW-01 now . There are some quirky mods done to them too, which I will save for a separate thread. While digging through the boxes, I also re-discovered a treasure trove of forgotten items from a huge job-lot I bought a while back (which included 3x of the CW-01's & maybe 2 dozen wheels & tyres to suit). A couple of DT01's, DF02 & DF03 semi assembled & accompanying box of parts, both with a mountain of carbon & blue ally hop-ups, a Kyosho Outlaw Rampage nitro & Ultima RB nitro, a few other chassis I didn't inspect too much, & some kind of what looks like 1/8 nitro pan/touring car .  I will be tapping into the TC brains trust soon to identify what I have. New thread & photos to follow. Thanks in advance. B)

For me today, just cleaning up shop since I finished the Fighting Buggy build.  I think I'm going to get some 3D printed jack stands for the car so that I can keep the tires off the ground while keeping the rear wheels from positive cambering and looking all weird while off the ground.  :D

I'm happy I built the car as I was not aware the rear suspension was so different from the Sand Scorcher's suspension.  The car can use a lot more steering as the turn radius is huge, but I suppose with a locked diff in loose traction this works out fine.  It's fun to look at how Tamiya's design changed from this to the WildOne.   I am sure a lot of folks here already knew this, but for me, I really didn't have much interest in SRB cars in my youth, so it is only just recently I found out for myself.

That said, it is amazing how Kogawa-san was able to get his Scorpion/Beetle/Tomahawk to drive so well.. especially his rere's are leaps ahead in performance, still acceptable by today's standards for fun driving on or off the road.

I decided I needed to move the haphazard tower of kits out of my hobby room in order to set up an organized queue for builds. I've been really great at acquiring and piling stuff up over the last several months, but I need to clear the clutter, take action and get to building, displaying and running. I think I'd like to start with my vintage vehicles, and get the low hanging fruit out of the way - ones that only require minor work to get them up to speed. Then I can focus on the tear down and rebuilds. I think if I work my way through this list, I'll feel much better about moving on to the re-re and newer kits, which will mostly be runners. So here's my list of Vintage projects as of right now:

  1. 58053 Road Wizard F1 JPS    (Inspect, Correct, Clean - Display only)
  2. 58148 Custom Lola T94/00   (Inspect, Correct, Clean - Display only)
  3. 58054 Supershot                      (Inspect, Correct, Clean - Display only)
  4. 58059 Porsche 959                  (Install servos, Reinforce body - Display only)
  5. 58100 Top-Force                      (Inspect, Correct, Clean - Vintage radio system)
  6. 58042 Porsche 956                 (Inspect, Correct, Clean, Paint and decals - Display only)
  7. 58043 Grasshopper                 (Complete tear down, clean and rebuild with original style MSC and 380 motor for 6V, Paint driver - Vintage radio system)
  8. 58065 Clod Buster                   (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild - Vintage radio system)
  9. 58055 Boomerang                   (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild, Paint and decals - Display only)
  10. 58056 Falcon                            (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild, Paint and decals - Vintage radio system)
  11. 58057 The Bigwig                    (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild, Paint and decals - Display only)
  12. 58058 Blackfoot                       (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild, Strip and prep body, Paint and decals - Vintage radio system)
  13. 58060 Monster Beetle             (Complete tear down, Clean and rebuild, Strip and prep body, Paint and decals - Display only
  14. 92018 GH II Super G (Yellow) (Complete tear down, clean and rebuild, Prep body, Paint and decals - Display only)
  15. 49501 GH II Super G (Green)  (Complete tear down, clean and rebuild, Prep body, Paint and decals - Vintage radio system)
  16. 58124 Super Hornet                 (Complete tear down, clean and rebuild, Prep body, Paint and decals - Vintage radio system)

Sounds like you got a busy latter half of 2023 there, @GToddC5!  :D

What I need to do second half of 2023 is to organize the closets in my pretendRCshop and the expanded pylon test course space.   I first need to toss out a lot of empty RC kit boxes as it is taking up too much closet space.. and I quickly realized that decorating a room with empty kit boxes on the wall is not very attractive.   It would need to be framed like how @Re-Bugged did with his.. otherwise it just looks like boxes stacked up along the walls.

I am also unclear as to the direction of the decor for the space.  I started off with doing a couple of wall hugging shelves (12" depth shelves with a 6 inch from wall feet to minimize foot print, top portion mounted to the wall) and floating shelves, but it's visually lacking.. like it does not excite me when I walk into the room.  I need to fix it, but not sure how just yet..       and knowing I will eventually move to Japan, I do not want to spend a whole lot of money on new furniture as I will not be able to taking it with me.. nor do any custom drywall decor (as I had in my old space) as I will eventually sell the house and need it to remain looking like a bedroom when I'm done.  hummmm...

Got a few things done.

I swapped out the cracked QD steering cover for a new one. I realised that the king pin dropped out when it broke so I cut a new one.

This works perfectly and the car is getting back to normal although I need to find a smaller battery as it is too fast at the moment.

Realising I have quite a few monster trucks I changed the wheels on the Jeep GF01 from 115 GF01 wheels to smaller crawler wheels

tazxebR.jpeg

I also lowered the body and softened the suspension. I used spacers to drop the servo down and removed the battery holder to allow the interior the get low enough (the battery is now kept in place by the interior). Thoughts? I liked the MT style, but this looks quite cool perhaps? With the CT12 monster truck and a Pumpkin all with the same wheels I wanted something a little different.

Lots of procrastination saw these first sponsor decals go on tonight. Cigarette advertising was a bad thing but they really nailed it when it came to Motorsport liveries.😬👌

Maybe needs a bit of a woman’s touch 😉

When redid my hobby space with nice shelves and organised it properly, I was happy with it, but there was just something missing that couldn’t put my finger on. I get the feeling you have a great relationship with your wife as I do with mine, and women have an incredible knack of turning a house into a home, and breathing life into seemingly dead space’s seeing them from a different perspective to men.

On day I walk into the hobby space and suddenly feels like it has a soul and is much more welcoming, because of one little subtle touch my wife added. I can’t bring myself to move it now….

before…

After…

IMG_5528.md.jpg

Photos don’t really do justice to it, but it makes me happy, and to see something completely unrelated to what the space is all about in there is refreshing for a sometimes stagnant train of thought while I’m in there. Something I would never have thought to do 🙂

@Re-Bugged that flower arrangement does add sparkle for sure!   Yeah, let me ask my wife what is missing.

I hope she does not place her Pikachu gang on my shelves!    lol

@Re-Bugged so borrowing your plant idea, I decided to place a nearly real looking 46inch snake plant in the far corner of the room to give the room some class.   I borrowed the fake plant from my music room and it actually takes the room to another level just from that.  B)

My wife recommended more of a rounder shape mini tree, and I think that would look good too, but I have to consider small foot print near the wall (like up against the wall) so decided to go with the slender shape.   The plant looks good with the olive drab themed military vehicles and goes well with race and touring car livery so I think it's a good match.  And it's 50% off right now, so got a great deal just a hair over $100!  :D   Thanks again.  woot!

Sounds like the start of something great @Willy iine, how good would an outdoor track with Cherry Blossom trees around it be once you get to build your house in Japan?

I like to cut out the main box art on mine, and either hang them up or use them as a mat underneath one of my RCs. Takes up much less space but you keep the best part of the box imo.

So forward thinking to 2024, I am considering making an outdoor crawler space in my backyard.  I have an open area adjacent to a screened patio where I use to have 3 narrow pine (?) trees, but they aged out so had my land scaping contractor remove them earlier this year.  Right now it's just open space with mulch and brick/stone outline.    The size is small at about 9 x 20 ft so hardly big enough for any off-road buggy driving (well, unless MiniZ), but for crawlers, that might work out for me.  There is also a 3ft wide bedrock area between the 9x20ft space and the fence that follows the fense so I can drive on that as well.  .. and the area is basically enclosed by the screened patio and fence, so not visible from my neighbors houses nor from the street.  B)    If it rains, no problem as I can drive from inside the screened patio. lol   (probably won't).

I would use real stones for the rougher terrain and additional bedrock... my land scaping guy does brick work (as per the stone wall he did for me the other day) so he has access to all sorts of stones and scrap stones he no longer needs that I can use.   Perhaps make a wooden hang bridge and stuff too to drive over.  Not sure the layout yet, but I would like to get the stones done early next spring and by summer finish the other stuff to make my little course.   I don't know much about crawlers (or any RC for that matter ) but I think I am going with the TRX4 Defender to start..

I can see you getting well into cwalering @Willy iine. Scalebuildersguild is a great source of inspiration and slightly weird humour. There's a 24 page thread on Smiggins Folly with most of its photos intact. You might enjoy a video though.

Have fun with you outside adventure!

Needed to do some 1:1 car wrenching, fitted new clutch master & slave cylinders to my old YN57 Hilux.

It takes forever to get anyone in my family motivated to help bleed brakes/clutch, so I splashed out on a vacuum bleeder. Should've bought one years ago!

Drafted final design for a stand to display some buggies.

Will build it tomorrow hopefully.

EDIT:

Final design.
