The penny has finally dropped and I've realised I've bought more models than I will ever get round to doing anything with.

Stupid really, but too late now.

So I've packed off my Volvo Tractor Unit and trailer off to my father in law and my Savage off to my brother in law.

Hopefully they will both come back ready to run and in between times I can do something useful myself.

I managed some progress on a few.

Did the RC10DS body in a box art fashion and it looks pretty good.

Painted the body for the RC10L pearl white so it will be a kind of privateer type with some stripes and decals yet to be decided.

Finished the C class Mercedes body in gunmetal but still don't know what chassis it goes on.

Painted the inferno body to match the unpainted wing. I've got a factory body for it so the black is for bashing.

All the painting was practice for the little coupe body. The camera flash makes it look lighter but it's actually a very dark blue, almost black. It's a background for later graphics I've got in mind.

Had the day off today and I decided just to please myself for a few hours!

I've swept out the garage and set up the desk, which will be my work bench and kinda tidied up the heinous mess of cars, boxes and bits!

I've also packed one of my S.Ss today ready to go to another member, so there is some positive movement.

That's 2 sold in 2 weeks and nothing bought for nearly 2 weeks.

I'm trying to work out which models I would be happy to let go, but its not easy. I genuinely like them all.

Sad, but true!

Finished off the 502x...

null-8.jpg

Had to add a 6mm spacer to inside the rear TD dampers as the longer length was causing the Uni's to pop out the out drives.

Cant wait to give it a go over on the green, and no drama's like last time!

Made tremendous progress on my Lancia Rally:

Unfortunately, my painting skills will never do the model true justice, but at least I have less convictions about running it! ;)

My Astute is also getting a new spur gear fitted, which will finally make it usable. Time to take it out of storage!

Edit: Decals are finished -

I finally see some progress on getting organized. I got all the manuals for everything and all the decals into two 3 inch thick 3 ring binders. I've also gotten rid of 3 very large totes of misc, parts and projects, 11 cardboard boxes and all the bodies I'd never use. The 3 big tool boxes from the last lot buy are also gone. All told probably enough to overfill a linen closet has departed. After thinning the cars and reorganizing there's shelf space for maybe 5 more cars too. I still need to sort the 10 small screw and hardware organizers along with the dozen small parts totes.

I started this project in may so it's nice to finally see things more organized, it was looking like an explosion in a hobby shop around here.

Just bought an RC10 gold pan in need of some TLC, that makes 4 basket case restos in the que, a Nova Fox arriving and a new RC10 (or 2) on order, plus numerous little jobs on other cars that never end. Time for no more projects for a while I'm thinking (yeah right) ;)

Hey Grastens, the Lancia is coming up Primo mate. Great to see a younger member like yourself taking a genuine interest and careful application to vintage Tamiya. She's a cracker ! (Aussie compliment).

In between jobs I found enough time to pick up my two nova foxes that got redirected to the post shop and in the afternoon picked up my ta05 VDFII drift kit and put it together tonight.

It's a tough job but someone has to do it !!

Thank you so much! It was very enjoyable, taking me back to the days when I built plastic models. Once I had the decals figured out, I actually had a lot of fun with the bodywork. With a spare set lying around, I think I can run this one when complete!

Today I did a gear installation, swapping in fresh pinion and spur types:

lvw5.jpg

The 23T pinion gear is a hardened aluminum gear. I decided to try it while I was purchasing pinions.

I proceeded to have a lot of fun with it despite limited space at my local bashing grounds. Then I saw a Buick Grand National and, remembering my Buggy Champ with that Ford Model A, began a new tradition:

I had exchanged the previous 17T/77T pinion/spur combination for a 23T/70T set, which is much better-suited to the 26T silver can I am running and adds a lot of top-end! Previous problems with understeer were cured as I could now snap the car very easily through tight turns, but the ball differential took getting used to - I unintentionally rammed the throttle a few times before I remembered its issues...

But all in all, a very fun and fine-handling runner!

@Grastens - very nice work on the Lancia. One of Tamiya's wierdest yet strangely beautiful kits... looks like you're doing it justice!

Today I've been prepping my Stadium Thunder for a trip to France. Swapped the front shocks for some alloy adjustables that were fitted to a Tomy Intruder - I've got some NIP ones to build for the Intruder at some point. Also, replaced the broken steering servo horn - might have to find something a bit more beefy due to the whacking it takes... oh, glued the tyres too.

Started my Nova Fox.

All built just have to do the electrics and body which will be as long as the build itself that I have found out by previous builds ;);)

Done some panel shading on my CC01 Dingo

It's deliberately heavy as I want to try out a real world camo effect I read about. Basically they drap a camo net over their desert vehicles and spray green paint through it. I had some 1/6 scale helmet netting so I made a simple frame and spread it across. Then I held it up to the bodyshell and worked my way around using my airbrush to apply some olive drab through the netting.

Its certainly different! Looks a bit like snake skin to me or desert Flektarn. Maybe I'll dust over it a bit to tone it down.

Don't tone it down mate . Its correct for that cammo pattern . I know it looks kinda weird but against a desert background with heat haze its amazing just how well it works in the real world .

Stripped down the 511 to a box of bits, rebuilding it with the upgrade set. However had drill out the heads of 5 screws ehere they had bern rounded off and then had to carefully extract the rest of the screw from the alloy part. Not my idea of fun!

What a fun day. I took the F201 out for some speed testing and it's close but still has a little push going on. After that I decided to get the 956 that blew over back out. I went back to a NIMH 8.4 battery and fixed the minimal damage. It ran perfect with the weight back to normal. After that it was time to bring out a jaguar. Ran ok but it kept steering left. I'd trim it out then it came right back, until I was out of trim. I'm thinking servo problem and not mechanical, but it will get fixed.

I really do live in a good place for this hobby. I needed a part for a TC3 and finally found it at one of the LHSs that I get too the least. It used to be an independent but joined a franchise a while back. Everybody figured they'd be just another Traxxas seller and Tamiya would get dropped. There were more Tamiya kits on the shelves than before and the prices were in line with Tower before shipping. I asked about a brushed ESC and yup they had them. The price was the same as the low end prices on Ebay too. We talked motors and cars for a while and he showed me a "managers special". A Novak Havoc sensored brushless setup with a 21.5 turn motor reduced from 159 to 75. I picked up some black Tamiya body clips and never set the ESCs back down. I also checked the price on the TC3 part and it was 50 cents over the lowest on Ebay.

It was a good day. :D

The hobby shop mentioned is Colpar and now is part of Hobbytown.
