Continued building my XV-01:

Men, this is night and day difference compared to The Grasshopper, The Frog, SRB, DT-01, CW-01, GF-01 and Blitzer I build new from a box before. Really enjoying it!

That's great to hear!   Honestly though, the countless spacers the kit asks you to use got old for me very quickly.. mainly because I cannot see very well (old age) and black parts over black hardware is a nightmare.    I think you might enjoy the XV02-Pro too if you like to try that down the road.   GL with the build!  B)

For me, posted the Abarth 1000 TCR body on M-Four on instagram.  Please check it out of interested. B)   #pretendRCshop.   I keep getting -200 errors here so I cannot post images again.     Anyway, I've been driving the Abarth and it is a sweet looking car.  :D   I love it.  I'm so glad I had my M-Four however as I would not have been able to enjoy the body if running on the MB01.

So the next step for the car is to get Billy painted, install with scratch built seatbacks, paint the gray wheels gunmetal and finish it off.  The car is going to look amazing ..with hope..

Tried to do some more speed runs today, grip is still a huge issue. Both front tires exploded on the tc01 today , and couldn't get higher speeds with anything I took with me. I was too lazy to change the silvercan in Billys p34, so just ran the overheated one on 3s and it seemed like it still worked pretty well, just smelly and not fast enough to break the record :(.

Update.. test drove the MFour with the Abarth body.  Absolutely no rubbing issues and AWD rocks!  :D

Looks really nice. Please tell me the front tires are 60d's and that they work ok with this body?

Thanks.  Those are low profile PitShimizu's (55d?).  Basically I only run PitShimizu's on my m-chassis as they grip well on EVA foam and most surfaces.   If you can find less aggressive offset wheels I am sure you can run the 60d's with this body..  or if you're okay to raise the body / ride height a couple of notches with less aggressive wheels.

Thanks. I was hoping you'd say "Yes, and here's how I made them work". I really like the 'scale-ness' of this body, and can't imagine why Tamiya insisted on making it only for 55mm front tires. They say "to replicate the original car"... Thanks for the info though.

I think that can be said about their other cars too unfortunately..  Tamiya has a lousy line up of wheels and offsets imho..   60d's to me are a bit chunky so them using it on the rear wheels on this car for me was fine..  I can fit the 60d's on the rear, but my M-Four does not run a one-way so I wanted to keep the front and rear diameters the same to eliminate drivetrain binding/drag.

I'm looking forward to trying out the HPI CupRacer wheels..  not sure whether they are more aggressive or not, but I hope I can fit them on the Beetle body..   Kogawa-san's wheel/hub design has so much more versatility... spacers + longer bolts for aggressive stance.. just like on a real Euro car.  B)

More blue bits made their way into my C11 this evening:

2023-09-03_08-05-17

F104 alloy diff, spacer and "axle stopper" on a steel axle. The axle that comes with the C11 kit is a bit too long for the F104 diff, but can be cut to size readily enough with a Dremmel or similar tool. Luckily I didn't have to do this as I had a spare left over from when I upgraded to carbon on my F104 V2 Pro.

Given how easy it is to make F1/Group C axles out of 6mm carbon rod, I may put a carbon axle in this car too at some point, but steel will work for now.

I only run outside on reasonably smooth tarmac, so use 60mm's just to get a little more clearance under the chassis. I have tried 55mm tires before, and ended up with a lot of chassis scrapes. It's not a massive problem though, I'll just look at other body options....

That makes sense.  55's are usually for indoor driving or on an actual track, I think.  My m-chassis are setup very low to the ground.

I drove "M05 no.2" for a bit today, the one that's mostly stock with just the "Big 3" done and with aluminum steering.

So "M05.1" was the Honda S800 that I've ran in the postal races, that car was more often than not an understeering devil that would snap about on throttle, and despite ALOT of fiddling, was always beaten by something else. It has carbon shock towers, one piece a arms, aluminum shocks, rear aluminum toe in arm mount, diff locker, universals, weights to even out distribution, etc etc.

For "M05.2", I only adjusted the shocks/springs, installed decent tires, and wider hexes on the back. It drives much better, without any of "M05.1s" random traction rolling, understeering, or twitchy-ness.

I got the 5B out for a run for the first time in over a year... it was underwhelming, then it stopped working when the spark plug was fouled. Hard to tune? No, it's impossible... but I'm stubborn and refuse to be beaten!!

I finally found some time to start my TT02 yesterday and excitedly got the prop shaft put together. Unfortunately I got dragged away before I could actually install it in the tub. Maybe this weekend :)

Painted my p34 late last night so this morning I did decals and all the gluey bits. While waiting for the glue to dry I decided to test some ESCs I had replaced before disposal, turns out one was still good, just needed time to dry out. Soldered new connectors on a few cars, and now it’s time to decide what body to paint next :).

Thanks @Willy iine! I mainly like the plastics, feel so much better compared to a DT-01 or some other entry level kit. The machine screws are also nice and give me an opportunity to bring out the thread forming tap. And the build as a whole is much more involved.

Looking forward to running it. And I see a XV-02 in my future.

Try to achieve perfection. I know I will never get there but it’s fun to try.

It’s my third time painting the red and cleaning it off. It’s now straight and clean enough to continue with the orange and detailing. I masked it with Tamiya white vinyl tape but it’s a small complex area, always runs and drops. I told myself it will have functioning lamps so once it’s done I’ll will be making the buckets and fitting them with LED’s and a LED controller.

I was quite impressed how well the XV01 ran in stock form outside in some dusty and gravel conditions.  I just run BZ motor on mine.   Have fun with the rest of the build!  B)

For me, my wife made a mold from Billy's face and gave Billy back to me, so today, I decided to make the driver platform and seatback.  Might do a partial roll cage too.  Hope to finish the shape today and paint tomorrow.  B)

Update:  Pictures on instagram Stories if interested.   #pretendRCshop
