So...I've been having a bit of a problem with "Project Rockhopper" as of late, I can't figure out the right motor to run in it.

Either its a silver can and its modestly fast, or a "nicer" motor (currently a 21T Yokomo Pro Stock), and it becomes a bit too quick for where I live, quick as in I reckon roughly 25mph?
It's definitely quicker than the M05 or the (frankly gutless) TL01. I need to take it off-roading this week. It also goes through grass reasonably quick...or rather, it "hops" over it, as a buggy should.

After freeing the suspension and rebuilding the shocks on the TD, took it out for a test drive with the HS2.

The "old" car actually drives better than the new one (ok I know the original TD came after the HS2).

If I ever restore another Tamiya, I'll likely go for a Thunder Dragon. It strikes me as one of those models at the end of a long line that Tamiya worked to improve. Plus, nylon arms are a big plus (and something that I wish Tamiya did more with).

It is fun but even after a bit of tuning/modifying, it likes to roll over sometimes.

I'd imagine with the badge on the front, it may turn to rust before you roll it again!!.

We used to call it the ferrous oxide performance pack, or the rust lightening theory.

You should definitely do a weathered/rusty shell, and swap it half way through a race. Lol

M chassis's are great though, will it get to M10?, or is the MB01? the successor?

I like the thunder dragon, also like the fire dragon after building the mini 4WD clear fire dragon, I am tempted to get the big fire dragon.

Wasn't it cool to get smaller versions of popular cars?

Bout time they released the Clod on a SW-01 chassis.

Full tilt in the TRFWRC! Wet hard packed gravel..... 6.5T Hobbywing QuicRun

The cleanup will far surpass the runtime significantly

This afternoon I bought a XV02 I eyed since their release to use on anything but perfectly dry/clean tarmac from here onward after seeing the extent of cleanup that will come from today´s run :D. Filthy Rally deep dive begins.

@technics Your car looks fantastic and 70km/h is fast especially for a rally car.  :D

For me, for the first time in maybe over 10 years, I ordered a part from a vendor in Japan for my 1:1 car.   It's a genuine GR (Toyota) accessory for the interior, but only available in Japan so it should be cool to have once I get it.

I am going to work on my M06 Beetle body today, mostly cutting, shaping, masking.   Will see if I can get at least one color sprayed today.  Not sure, will depend on my work load since we were off yesterday I have a feeling there is not going to be much time once office hours start.

Today my Hotshot received a new front bumper and radio box.

2023-10-10_04-51-49

The radio box has been due for replacement since I built the car a few years ago, as the holes for the large woodscrew-like BB7 battery door pin holders were not up to the task, and the plastic cracked when I put them in. I fixed/hid the cracks as best I could and ordered a replacement radio box, which I misplaced shortly after receiving it. 😖

I did a pretty good job sorting the cracks if I may say so myself, so I wasn't desperate to find the replacement radio box, but the other day it turned up along with a nice Radshape alloy bumper that I won in a raffle a while back, so both went on the car. This time I opened up the holes for the BB7s with a drill bit before putting them in, and they cut a nice set of threads without cracking anything. Wish I'd thought of that the first time around...

The Hotshot now has alloy front sway bar supports, an alloy battery holder, alloy wheel hub triangle things, alloy wheel nuts and of course now an alloy front bumper. Probably enough alloy for now. 😁

Took the Frog out for some off-roading, unfortunately my run was cut short due to the Yokomo 21T going out on me. No surprise, it lived a pretty "racey" life in Japan before I got it.

Someone have me this needing some electronics, I ordered some new ones and drove it for quite a bit.

Should keep me occupied during winter.

I had one for a while.  I was impressed by how smooth and precise is the steering and throttle.  Driving it around in the house, I almost never needed to use reverse - it turns on a dime.

Anyway, the neighbor's nine year old daughter wanted an RC to run indoors so I gave it to her.  Now it hauls her dolls around in the house and she enjoys it very much.

It's a fun little truck.   I should get another one.  :)

Today I bought an original Ranger that's in need of some love.

Tomorrow, I will read that Tamiya is re-releasing it and I'll kick myself for paying too much for a 42 year old, well used RC.

I used to raise my nose at these "them youtubers only like it cause they're free!", but now I get it. They do drive well and they're very practical (cheap batteries, cheap parts, they work indoors and outdoors).

Soldered a battery adapter as I overlooked which adaptor I ordered when I bought a 2S Lipo to fit into older style chassis TA02/03.

I wanted a deans, but arrived a XT60,  although I do like the look of them  I have about 50 of the dean connectors new in a bag so might as well stick to those.

Put in some simple but fresh electrics (Carson Dragster, guess this is a strangely named HW 1060 rebrand ) Into my TA02 Chevy S10 and drove it around indoors.

This thing is super fun. Hops over each doorway transition strip and it has alot of kick with just a simple Lipo.

I should probably point out that I have no idea how I obtained 136mph???, must have been a cartwheel. Lol. The average is pretty accurate though.

I was out all day on a business trip for my money making gig yesterday as my pretendRCshop has no revenue.. and just got back.  B)   While I was out, I got a handful of Rush tires for my m-chassis, new ZR1 C8 body for my Mini-Z, and some other misc material items related to RC.  :D

Today I am going to continue working on the Beetle body and finish the painting portion including Billy.  I decided I want a white helmet on Billy so going to repaint the gunmetal... I may need to redo the entire head if the gunmetal bleeds through.  Will do a few coats of matte white and finish off with racing white as usual to start..  Wish me hope..

Update:  I was able to finish the painting portion on the body today and also Billy's helmet is a nice shiny racing white now.  B)

Hit 88km/h on a perfect tarmac situation around vacant pristine stadium grounds in direct beautiful sunlight. The silky smooth sensored motor and TRF belts lived their best life today. Under braking it all looked very real. Like when you see a actual WRC car dive under braking to then power out through a hairpin turn, I am very pleased. My new regular spot perhaps, bringing cones next time.

Afterwards I emptied the chassis again for cleaning, and replaced :

Two arms from last session, one ball cup, and installed the most aggressive Spur / Pinion combo I had available to me at present time P49T / S100T . I am running on pre glued Matrix / contact Foam tires normally put in Nitro cars. It´s the only thing that will properly bite into tarmac in my opinion.

Can´t wait for next time!

Today I locked up the rear diff on my Mini Z MA020 to help it drift better.  I was going to buy the Kyosho locked diff but I came across an easy, non-destructive, mod using masking tape on YouTube that I thought I'd try out.  It worked perfectly and I'm looking forward to taking it for a literal spin tomorrow on my new roll of lino to see if it has improved my drifting any.

Installed Super Stock BZ motor.

IMG-20231013-075226232-HDR.jpg

I am impressed that so small motor has so much power. It is light and much smaller than any "Silver Can".

Unfortunately when I tried to install Heat Sink, I damaged sticker and decided to remove it 🙄
