Rebuilt the Frog and got an earfull from the Mrs for leaving a pair of paddlatraks and a pair of spiked wheels/tyres in the sink soaking in dishwashing liquid, oh and using her favourite sauce bowl for rebuilding the shocks. I had a good time though.

Assembled Tamiya's Big Bore dampers, destined for my 511.

Went together fine, although I would be tempted to tap out the rod ends as the plastic expands and makes the alloy platform rather tight fit around it

A very busy day today!

More rally action awaited as I took my Lancia for a drive. Broke the brittle bumper and had problems with a front wheel, though:

Like Walter would have done, I kept driving on it as long as I could - and the bumper can always be repaired with glue! Of course, this being a new car to me, I have quite a bit of patience for it when something goes wrong.

Afterwards, I tested my Striker and swapped a motor into it from my Buggy Champ (my Lancia has the Striker motor):

My lady friend is coming in from London (in Canada, alas) and expressed an interest in trying out a car... What was I to say? But I wonder if I am testing the relationship a bit too much by letting her drive the Striker :P

It's my opinion that women don't seem to have much interest in the hobby for the most part, so if she's expressed an interest I'd let her drive whatever she wants. At worst the car can be replaced.

There are more women in the world than Strikers.

Maybe I should have phrased that as: "I wonder if I am testing the relationship a bit too much by pushing the Striker onto her!"

But I figure it must have been a beginner's car for a reason, and with my other cars on one Spektrum radio the Striker (along with my currently-dismantled Buggy Champ) is equipped with its own radio, making it the only choice if I want to bash with another person. If I was a real gentleman I could take the Striker, but she also wanted to see my Lancia run...

Right now, I am going to take my Lancia for yet another session - rally fever has struck! Hopefully the tires can stay on the rims; I attached them to the wheels last night using silicone sealant as it could fill in the many gaps between the rubber and plastic.

Edit: Done!

And, obviously, broke the bumper again. But it is doing its job well:

I've discovered it would be cheaper to buy a brand new XB Swift than to replace all the parts I've stolen from my current one for other projects.

The double dare was an option and still is. The double in question has smaller tires on alloy wheels with a stock chassis. This one has all the chassis upgrades on stock wheels and tires. Given the age of them I opted for the USA1 because of the upgrades. There are more spare parts yet to come so when I go back I'll look at the other one too. I'd had my eye on this one for a while and the opportunity came up to get it so I went for it. When it's all finished I'll be into it for about 175 dollars and I was looking for something like this to round out the collection. I just need servo mounts for the 1/4 scale steering servo.

Started to clean up some vintage RC10 wheels - not perfect, but an improvment nonetheless - 400, 800, 1500 grit wet n dry, wheel spun on a cordless drill..

Got the brake fluid out to remove the masking tape residue from my Mini Cooper body. I started working on this 6 years ago. I used genuine Tamiya branded masking tape, but after 6 years it didn't peel off nicely!!

Light bezels, grille, bumper, rear light surrounds and the rain rail around the perimeter of the roof is all painted Alclad II chrome with black backing. Time to finish it! Black wheel arches and metallic red body with white bonnet stripes and white roof :)

I removed the stickers from my recent Sand Scorcher purchase as they were stuck on to high and dirt was getting behind the

top of the stickers and it looked permanently grubby.

Lots of WD40 and elbow grease to remove the residue was needed.

I sold 2 chargers on eBay which was always a pleasant surprise, not big money but nice to get the shelf space back.

I've had a plan for this one for a while. The 1/4 scale servo was why I wanted it and it fit just fine. It turns all four wheels with ease on carpet now. I also beefed up the steering links.

Cover put on and everything hooked up

The stock body mounts lined up with the factory holes on the clod body. As usual it's too shiney and dark colored for a good picture.

The shocks are a little soft and I really should put on a chassis mounted front bumper. It runs really good, no twist from motors and the steering is tight with a tiny turning radius.

I've tried some of the other monster truck types and found them lacking in one way or another but this ones a keeper.

Up nice and early and with everyone away I had the house to myself this morning!

Packed my King Hauler trailer ready to be sent to a fellow T.C member.

In the war to regain garage/floor/shelf space I'm still loosing but I've regained some lost ground!

I'm concentrating on selling off some of the dozen chargers I've accumulated and some of the over crowding off Tamiya models.

Slow, but sure.

I was given a Wild One (rere) from my bosses for my birthday.

That was unexpected and welcome ;)

Tell your bosses I've done a good job too :D

My lady friend came over for a week, and so I gave her an opportunity to try out one of my cars. Initially I was to give her the Striker, but it was behaving badly today and was shelved while we took turns with the Lancia Rally. The two cars below:

7o1j.jpg

With some tips for driving on gravel, she actually got quite good at handling the car. The bumper broke once, but then I have already snapped it several times and it will be replaced soon. I was only nervous once when she took it out on pavement, with several close fences and the possibility of a rollover(!), but she was a very competent driver.

So all in all, a good day - now I have swapped in some re-release Frog oil dampers and new front wheels:

iu52.jpg

The 'runner' rear wheels I had for this car actually wore out, the partially-crumbled tire coming loose from the rim, so halfway through the bash I replaced the rear wheels, putting in only one pair to save time. Now the second front pair is in, which is considerably less dusty than the rears. While the original tires were not in great condition, it may say something for both the power of this car and the regular driving it has undergone so far!

I set eBay up now to list my last few chargers whilst I'm on holiday next week, that will clear some much needed shelf space.

R/X & T/X to go next!

I've just got my new s/h King Cabs rims put of the dishwasher and they look good, V.happy!
