I tried some "proper" rock crawling for the first time today, and I think I've finally gotten the appeal behind crawlers.

Low maintenance, long battery life, and you can run them in your backyard.

I also drove the Torment around after not doing much with it for a time. I forgot how fun it is to try to get a 2wd SCT to handle.

Excellent work @Ferruz!   Driver looks incredible too.  👍

For me, I decided to try some video editing on  iMovie on iPad. I remembered I use to make family videos using iMovie off my Mac to send to my relatives in Japan.. never tried it on an iPad until today.     For a dumb middle-aged old guy with 10 thumbs, this works perfectly for my reels.  I made 3 practice clips and uploaded a short one on my Stories... please check it out if interested for kicks and giggles...and yawns.

Next build I will definitely take photos and super short clips with this editor in mind.  What I lack most is image stability.. that is where an R50 with IS and fast auto-focus would help me on my videos, I believe.

Update.. in other news, I made a taller easel for the poster I made yesterday.  Working with styrene is relaxing as imagination is the limit, and one does not need to be perfect or mathematically accurate to get it right... I can continue adjusting the shape until it fits.  No engineering skills or any real talent required.. I am proof.  :D

Your Fake Falcon is sharp, love the idea and the executio, well done mate👌  it would look great besides an OG Falcon. Are you going to run it?

Finally got to the stage where I can put the masking tape & rattle cans away and enjoy pulling off the clear film for that fresh showroom shine reveal, carefully trying not to touch it 😁

Very kind! I haven't seen a real Falcon in the flesh in 30 years, so hopefully I can pop along to some sort of meet up and encounter one.

Oh yes, I'm definitely going to run it (have done a bit already, but there was a lot of steering play, which is now solved)!

The idea of it was to end up with a pretty tough buggy and run it without much fear. It's got an 8.5T brushless motor in. But it does need a high speed motor because it's geared for truck tyres (Blitzer). It now just needs new steering tie rods, the shocks setting up and the driver and lights sprue (incoming). Then at some stage I'd also like to do a better paint job on the wing especially - I have a second shell to do - and try different more "period" (Fox style I have, to be dyed) wheels.

After completing a little construction project on my house, I ventured into my hobby room to take some updated photos of some of my cars for my showroom entries on the main site, placed pics in the Gallery thread

Bloomin lovely. Fancy doing a little tutorial on how you did it? Which colours you did first, your masking technique etc.... I'd find that very useful.

Very impressive @Xeostar!   You really captured the 3 dimensional appearance..  it's like the water droplet is popping out of my screen.  :D

For me, took my 1:1 STI out for another relaxing weekend drive, fueled her up on the way home, and detailed the car inside and out.  B)

I was playing around with the available audio in the instagram app to play along side my reel I edited..   I wish there was more editing features on the audio so that I could sync up a section of my reel to the audio.. I'm probably thinking too hard and would defeat the purpose if I'm going to be doing any involved editing on their platform as it's more like a short thumbnail clip for folks that have actual YT channels.   .. and I have no interest in making serious video's as I'm just not that kind of guy.. and have no screen worthy face.

I'm going to relax this afternoon driving my Mini-Z's mostly, watch a few YT videos, check out a few 1:1 cars online that I might buy for the kids to use.  My older kid kept mentioning a used Honda Fit, so I looked up a few on Carvana.. used car market is still pretty hot, I suppose.. a newer one was selling at over $20K..  wow..  that car is not worth $20K..

Thank you kindly sir 👍🏻

What I used, (razor sharp Stanley Knife blades a must)

IMG_60562d246274109102e1.md.jpeg

Colours used were,

1st, PS16 Metallic Blue

2nd, PS5 Black (Front Trim)

3rd, PS8 Light Green

4th, PS1 White.

Next would have been PS41 Bright Silver but I then decided it needed another Green accent stripe in the bottom corner so had to mask up for that again,

IMG_6047.md.jpeg

So then a bit of PS1 was needed over the top of that as well.

PS41 Bright Silver to complete coverage of the remaining back end and provide a backing.

I had some PS16 and a bit of PS59 (Dark Blue) left that wasn’t enough to use on much else, but was just enough to cover the whole inside over the silver.

I’m actually quite taken back by being asked for a Tutorial. Not sure we’re to start there as I’ve never considered myself a teacher as such, most of the time a have a ‘rough’ idea when I start out on body’s then things materialise as I go along. If I get a chance I’ll try and put something together in the Builds & Tips section 😉

Getting to where I am now is largely thanks to the fantastic examples I’ve seen and knowledge shared in this great TC community.

Hemistorm is also a priceless resource for painting knowledge, I’ve got a way to go to get to his level, check out this one of his, it’s pretty much what I do, except I don’t have a light box so hold up the body to the sun or a desk lamp to see where I want to score the tape. Sitting the can in just boiled water helps prevent ‘spatter’ and use all the contents, careful though as the tin is pretty hot when you take it out 😉

After doing a bit of yard work, I ran both of these in the current postal race. I've yet to find a good Mach 5 RC, but at least Speed Racer gets to drive a kei truck.

I actually tried running it with some spare touring car tires in the back, unfortunately the added weight caused it to roll over in tighter turns.

Thanks for that, really useful to get my head around your process. I'm always concerned using a blade to cut tape while it's on the body in case I go to deep and the body ends up splitting there....

I do remember Hemistorm from when I was into crawlers. I'll take a look at some of his painting videos.

No worries at all, it doesn’t take much pressure on fresh blade to cut the tape at all, I’ll use a few blades per body. Once the blade starts to drag and move the tape instead of slicing it cleanly, just bin it and use another.

I also tend to run the blade around the tape on the body after the first couple of coats of paint, that seems to give a nice edge.

If you have some scrap Lexan kicking about stick a few bits of tape on that and then you can practice getting a feel for how much pressure is required. Enjoy it.

@Re-Bugged your work is artistry right there!   👍      It's like one of those things I'd just let the pro's do it.  :D  haha.

That said, for me, I watched a lot of YT tutorials on video cameras, lighting, and gimbals yesterday to better understand what is the right gear for my reels on instagram.   For obvious reasons getting a mirrorless would achieve the highest video quality approach (given I learn how to use it and practice for at least 3-4 years like a musical instrument), but the reality is even my grainy junk used car ad photo's and video's are getting viewed by many super generous and understanding folks, so I am suspecting there is quite a bit of tolerance (mostly sympathy) towards people like me who have no photo/video taking skills.

So my conclusion is why try to make a chicken fly.  I figured I'd try the gimbal on my iPhone12 mini to see how well the included software will allow my phone to maintain autofocus on the target while in motion.  If the clip quality is 'acceptable' then I will see if my content can win the viewer over.   If someone wants to make a cleaner version of the same car, etc..I'd just let the pro's do it.. because I'm not that guy.

Today, I need to head to the office for my money making gig since my pretendRCshop has no revenue and would quickly belly up without funding, so not too much time to do RC stuff.  My plan is to re-arrange the display shelf to place my latest Beetle #3 next to my other m-chassis. B)  Which means one of the cars is going to need to move to the pretend pylon test course shelf..

I should be receiving the gimbal later today, so will do some practice clips.  Hopefully it will make my clips better..

Took the first step toward starting my own wheel store. Been 3D printing and prototyping for about 2 years now. Been saying I wanted to start selling them online for a while but I keep getting carried away and designing new ones, up to about 140 so far. But I decided to get a few sets printed professionally in proper decent resin so I can give them a proper test run and they arrived today. If all goes well I can narrow down my selection to stuff I think will sell best and see how it goes. I feel there's a gap in the market for a lot of rim styles that none of the big companies are making, especially a lot of the older JDM retro type rims.

IMG_20231109_140307.jpg.71322fc4175acd1692fb237a523d25ff.jpg

These look great!  Hope the test rims worked & your venture takes off.

Nope, a QD - works perfectly on there. Got a little brushless system so way more speed than needed, but really fun.
