Yes, @Willy iine for sure is the Forums Beetle Sensei, gorgeous stuff

Haha!  I don't know about that, but thanks!  Also for the encouragement. B)

Definitely need one of these now, that stance screams SoCal to me and the white band on the wheels certainly lifts it a notch or two. It’s on the the Christmas wish list (with a few others) so we’ll see what transpires 😉

Thanks, yeah, this car drives phenomenally well for such a basic setup.. the only things I added were bearings and the SuperMiniCVA's.  Even with the aggressive stance, the car still drives very well with no rubbing. 👍

To me it's one of those cars you drive casually concourse style, although I think the M06 is a pretty capable chassis.

The level of detail and realism is fantastic.

Way back in the day I used to buy Street Machine and day dream about owning a Cal look Beetle, which was the dechromed version.

Tamiya did a great job on the Beetle with the hard plastic bits for sure!   I always enjoy making their bodies that comes with all sorts of hard plastic decorations.  The last one I really enjoyed making was the M01 MiniCooper's bodies that came with the grill, bumpers, lamps, side mirrors, etc.

Absolutely perfect, the attention to detail and the stance couldn’t be better.

Thanks!  :D   I got my inspiration from all sorts of Beetles I saw on the internet.

For me today, I need to take my 1:1 STI in for emissions check so will get that out of the away, then most of the day will be familiarizing myself to the gimbal..  from the initial tests I did this morning with subject lock feature, it seemed to maintain focus on the target fairly well even with pretty severe jerking/shaking..at least much better than without.   👍

I am also expecting a battery powered photo light to arrive today, so hopefully that will also help with capturing clearer video..

Nice seeing this back in circulation and still looking good.
Great to be able to tweak it and finish the job as well, it’s an evolving model!

As always I have no doubt it will turn out superbly 😎

Looking forward to its next chapter mate 👍🏻

Awww, Thanks very much guys - you'll have me in tears at this rate ;)

I hope my humble efforts match your (somewhat misguided) expectations :)

Herculean effort! When you get the last screw out we might all have to have a little celebratory drink 😉

Can you do it as a live video?

Been out for a pint of Guinness just now to get my strength back 😂

Always fantastic pictures!

The purple puppy look very much at home ragging around the woods.

Is it box standard and 4WD?

Does this mean semi retirement for the Big Brute and Hornet?

Thank you! Yes, the Mad Van is 4WD and very much box standard for the moment. I only opened it to check around and properly grease up gears that were left dry (like pinion and spur).Cosmetically, I only added some details such as front Ford emblem and a few extra things.

During a run, something got stuck in the motor opening and the whole inner motor fan blades were blown apart as a consequence. Because of that, I decided to add an extra heat sink+fan to the motor. Should be on its way now, but there's definitely no rush for that given the temperatures we'll have for the next few months 😅

I don't see the Hornet affected by the arrival of the Mad Van, but the Big Boss will definitely get the easier life it deserves from now on. I'm still going to run it, just not as often and not as intensely. Come to think of it, it's time I get it out for a proper run and photoshoot with its "offspring" Mad Van 😁

Thanks for in inquiring, and good luck with all that rust you are dealing with! Seems like by now you can finally see some light at the end of that tunnel??

As many have already pointed out, @Re-Bugged 's Subaru and @Willy iine's Beetles (both the red one and the light blue one) are just next level... great skills and fantastic results there B)👌

Thanks @Ferruz!    btw, your MadVan is awesome!   I bet it will drive well in the snow too.  👍

For me, played around with the gimbal most of the day as far as RC, and took a short vanity reel of my Beetle#1, posted on instagram.  The gimbal tracks the target subject fairly well, just cannot go too fast.. therefore, just a vanity shot.    I bet it will work well with crawlers, however..

The video itself looks crappy as ever, but we all have to start somewhere..!

Otherwise, I installed the CF rear shock tower on my XM1S 239m converted version, so all visible bits that are supposed to be CF are CF.

I put together a 186mm wheelbase MF-01X. I've got to stretch it out to 190mm yet, but figure I can do that at the wishbones. I'd best get some small radio gear on order.

It's going to be touch and go as to whether the chassis is low profile enough as it'll be easier than taking 20mm out of an M06 (I at least have a backup plan for 15mm there).

@naturbo2000  Nice project!  So is there a particular body you are planning to use with this chassis?  (sorry if I missed early discussion).

When I put together the XM1 and XM1S, I noticed it had the ability to adjust the wheel base quite. a bit like up to 4mm front and back (total 8mm).   Not that I needed to make any adjustments, but that is one way to get a PERFECT wheel fitment to body wheel arches for sure.  👍

Not related to RC, but I have like 3-4 large storage bins worth of Technic lego's that I built in the past that needs space.. I can't think of a place in my house where I can display it properly, but was checking out Instagram lego rooms hoping it would spark some ideas.. some of the rooms I saw were extremely impressive.  Not that I would be doing a pretend Lego shop or anything like that. lol.   I'd like to make small dedicated space some day in my house somewhere..  I was thinking if I removed the digital piano out of my lounge (I have space for it in my music room) I could potentially make a Lego corner.. and it would be more a warm rustic display to make the Lego pop, and nothing cold looking like my garage.  hummm..

@Willy iine Yes a body is on its way - but I'm not sharing until it arrives and I can do a test fit.

I'm pretty happy filing arms or hubs etc to make a couple of mm here and there - my 288 GTO is on a 204.5mm M08. I figure they're all mostly overengineered and the cars I'm chopping about don't get driven that hard.

Indeed. While I was typing this earlier on today, something must have started to itch... in fact, just a few hours later I went for a run with the Boss. Nothing fancy, just a visit to the local park to stretch its 30+ y old legs (or shall I say wheels). Even after experiencing the Mad Van, the Big Boss is still fun :)

"work out those poles!"  training areas for humans have the extra bonus of always being free from doggie dung...  makes for a safe area to run the car. My own workout I get in different ways.Screenshot-20231114-165654-Video-Player.

a makeshift ramp was also made.

This afternoon, while tiding up around the house, I stumbled upon these bad boys... I totally forgot about them 😬😬

20231114-105136.jpg

I swear they worked pretty well... and still, I was uncomfortable while running them 🤣 you never know when a screw shoots off..lol

They make for quite the aggressive/Mad Max look though

Beautiful photos @mtbkym01!  Thanks for sharing.   B)

For me today, I need to head to the office for my money making gig once again after a Teams meeting this morning due to unsustainable pretendRCshop operation without funding.     haha

Going to practice my gimbal movements again.. so far I can take better videos moving my iPhone free-hand without the gimbal..     I posted a reel of Willy and Paul's shop using free-hand video taking.. this is just off my junk iPhone12.  The significance of this post was modifying the color to better match the original after instagram compression..  I think if I dial back vibrance just a hair, should look pretty much spot on.    👍

Please check it out if interested.   #pretendRCshop

I finished off my two MF01x trucks.

The Land Rover just got a quick upgrade that allows full droop for the rear arms without the dog bone popping out. It's designed to be a little trail truck, and great for driving in small places or indoors. Super tight turning circle and very quiet too. Great at crawling over pillows or children's books on the living room floor.

One day I shall paint the body and add a few more decals or even try salt weathering a la @JennyMo. For most of my trucks I prefer a racing livery, but I'd love a vintage safari look for this!

The FJ45 got an overhaul! I lowered the body by cutting out some of the rear bed as it was stopping the body getting low enough. This should also allow more motor cooling!  I swapped in a 9 mm wheel hex, which on top of the TL01 arms makes for a very wide vehicle. I added my favourite wheel/tire combo of Sand Scorcher over a M chassis wheel.  It's got a 21T motor and wide and low should allow for nice handling in the dirt, just like a little Toyota prerunner should.

Wider with much more clearance than stock, should be good for driving across dirt and the BMX track!

Thanks!

Looking at the photos I realise how much nicer the painted silver body is to the plastic of the yellow lander rover and that I need to clean the windows. The

Both are super nice little trucks, I think the LR is going to stay safe in the loft for a while (I have a collection for my toddler who is too young now) until I get some paint, but I am going to blast the FJ45 around the BMX track!

Yeah, even if you paint it the same color, paint looks more consistent vs bare plastic so it does look nicer.  But if you drive it often pretty hard, might be best to keep it bare plastic.

I've found if I get a close colour match (or a shade darker than the plastic) it tends to be ok with a few roll overs (or even say light colour onto black) as it looks like a 1:1 scratch to the body. Painting for example orange over red looks awful when you roll it!
