Today I've finished the chassis for the new Scorcher build.  I'll just need to add an ESC and Rx and it's a runner.

It's amazing how tight the steering becomes when the servo is mounted directly to the chassis plate.  Also, unlike many other RC's that lack a proper steering drag link, it's easy to achieve zero bump-steer with the SRB.

I've added a simple rock guard to help protect the transmission cases.  I didn't want to spend a lot of time on this since it will certainly get beat up.

Next comes the body and if you've ever finished a SS body, you know that it can take weeks to complete.  Lots of sanding, filling, priming, sanding, masking, painting, clear coating, waiting for paint to cure, then wet sand and polish.  The Scorcher body can be extremely time consuming and labor intensive to finish.

Meanwhile, I couldn't resist finding a body to set on the chassis and Mr. Blitzer was happy to oblige.

Loved every bit of this!

@_Ben_ Nice on the Tomahawk!   Did you decide not to use the black decal centers for the wheels?  I just suck at placing them on (seems they are slightly too big for the wheels) so each time I just paint mine matte black. :D

For me, received my Korg Nautilus AT today :D so unpacked it, waiting for my stand to arrive.  Meanwhile, finished cutting and masking the outdoor MID body.   I plan to paint tomorrow after visiting the office for my money making gig..  B)

Thanks!

I prefer the wheels without the decals. ☺️

Well I finally started doing something, it’s been a long while. Decided yesterday I would pick up on my Optima Mid which I abandoned a long time ago. fitted electrics, which as the bodyshell is so tight is a bit of a pain. So cut wires to length for the motor etc, and solder, plus shorten esc battery wires and so on.

feels like I’ve done a hard days work I’m telling you! :P

The number 33 is considered Alfa's lucky number.. and also is the model number of their most epic and exotic build.. the Type 33 Race Car and Street Version

I think the #53 was a sideways option to make a Herbie out of the VW Bug body for those that already had it...

Although not exactly the correct font, but for most, close enough.

For me, ordered all the pieces required to make another JJ WC Ultima in blue (the one I posted earlier, but for display and indoor driving).  I think instead of adding more cars, I'm just going to dress up the one I have in box art and change it out from time to time knowing I will be able to revert it back to box art at any time.  I just don't have enough display space at the moment to dedicate another spot.. especially when I'm pulling a MID off display to my outdoor car line up it wouldn't be fair to the other cars.

I'm going to spray the box art MID body this morning before heading to the office for my money making gig.. I am so tired* I don't feel like being around people today.. Hope today goes by real quick.

*I'm moving stuff around in my music room to accommodate the new Korg Nautilus AT and my gear is pretty heavy and bulky.. I haven't even had the chance to fire it up just yet.

Fitted good lighting above my workbench and a storage shelf below, then I made a sort of poor man's band saw for sheet material like carbon fibre, out of an eBay jigsaw and some scrap materials. I'm hoping this will enable me to cut a bit more accurately and do a decent job of my chassis parts and shock tower for my home brew buggy project. I still need to rig up some dust extraction.

This is the underneath:

20240122_191042

I used thick ply for rigidity but routed out a deep recess down to a 6mm thickness to get enough blade out through the table and try to keep the cutting area close to the machine itself, to try to reduce forces on the blade.

It'll never be perfect because the blade up-stroke makes the work want to jump but if you hold it firm and move slowly it works.

I specifically wanted a mains powered jigsaw (so I can fit a cut-off) and one whose button is just on-off, has a hold function and a separate dial for speed control. This Makita model has all that. If I get around to some wiring it can just be on/off, no need to get under there to the jigsaw itself.

Worked on my ultimate TC-01 some more, found out I can’t use the nice aluminum blue swing shafts with the double cardan so guess they’ll remain boring black :(, and the blue shafts will get used on something else (hopefully something I already own , though it wouldn’t be the first time I bought a kit because I had some hop ups laying around). Almost done building it, need to put the esc in it to continue but feeling too lazy to do all the soldering and figure out how I can put it in and still access the power switch on it.

For me, got home.. so tired.. but I did get a new company computer laptop today, so that was kind of cool.  Still need to finish setting it up tomorrow..

Speaking of setup, I got my receivers (RX493i) for my M17 today, so going to try setting up my JJ WC Ultima #2 (blue one) with the M17 tomorrow.. followed by my outdoor MID.. and the others.  I only have 5 receivers at the moment so will need to get a couple more down the road.   My wife mentioned she's going to Japan again this year so perhaps I can ask her to grab me some while she's down there.

I should be getting the M17 hard case and neck strap tomorow, so looking forward to that.   Basically I'm going to be storing this radio in my mudroom away from the heat and cold of my garage so the case should come in handy.  B)

I messaged person I know at TamiyaUSA and inquired if/when they will revert to including the TBLE-04S in their kits instead of the HW 1060. They informed me that this is permanent.

I personally like the TBLE-04S. So I found this response disappointing.

Oh, this is sad news. I also like the 04S just because of the possibility of using it brushed and brushless.

Me too - glad I picked up a few late last year while they were available at the old regular price.  The last few kicking around seem to be priced 50% higher.

Today I placed a decent sized order with Tamico for some Mad Bull spare parts (thought I'd get a few now that the model is discontinued, just in case) plus another Boomerang which I'm going to turn into a "Super Boomer":

  • Twin shocks up front as per the Super Hotshot
  • Super Hotshot propellor joints and propellor shaft
  • Super Hotshot drive shafts
  • GT Tuned Motor with steel 16T pinion
  • Hotshot II front stabiliser

I know I could have just got a Super Hotshot, but as this will be a runner the enclosed chassis puts me right off and I prefer the looks of the Boomerang.  It'll be something a little different too, which interests me  :)

Were you using it mostly for brushless application?   The modulation in brushed mode was subpar so for me, the 1060 was a welcome change.. but yeah, if one wants to try BL, then they would need to buy a whole new ESC.

I can't remember which car I used the TBLE04S for brushless, but as with the TBLE02S, the programming part became a huge irritation quickly for an older dumb guy like me.. especially knowing how simple it is on my HW LCD programmer to program my HW BL ESC's.

In other news, was there some photo competition going on here?   I visit here pretty much every day and I had no idea, not that I would win anything anyway.    I saw the winner on instagram mention he won the competition with is SandScorcher.  👍  Congrats!

For me, going to decal my white MID body and try learning how to use the M17.  I found an old MicroSD card so will first see whether I need to update the firmware, and then if not, try to figure out what I'm doing..

I learned that the M17 has 250 model memory and microSD backup just like my DX5Pro-2021.  This is a very welcome surprise.   As for the feel, it's on par with my 7PX-R, so that's good.  Honestly I think the Futaba feels better, but that is just personal preference.   They say the M17's suppose to be their light weight radio.. feels about the same as my Futaba with NiMH pack inside.. but that's good because when the radio is too light, it starts to feel cheap.

Anyway, going to take a break in the afternoon and shoot some Kyosho Beetle footage for my reel on Friday.  Same shot sequence as before.   B)

@toyolien It seems you're not going boxart on your Wild One BHM. However nice it looks in boxart I want to stand out so planned to skip boxart on mine as well. Not really sure what colour i'll go for. (I realise now that's one thing that has always kept me from buying a Wild One, it looks great but the boxart is kinda dull IMO and with the red rollcage you're limited in colour choice)

Matt black and gunmetal both still in the running as well as some other (bright green, bright yellow, bright silver) more colorful options.

I have xtra speed front shock mounts, seems you fitted the same? Are the small ones for the bottom of the shock?

Is the rear shock on yours the tamiya aeration or the yeah racing variant I have on order? The Tamiya aeration looks very nice but a bit too expensive for my taste.

It's open to subscribers to the main site only. Announcement, rules, terms are all explained on the main site. It's always a "themed" photo competition and the winner is chosen by the other entrants. You could enter a picture this time before 31/12/2023. This time the theme was "Alternative Paint jobs". As my Grasshopper NSU wasn't ready I didn't enter this time.
