If it is indeed 255mm there aren't a lot of them I think. What homemade parts did you use to get it at that size?

None!

I am going to bond some rails into the chassis to make sure it stays in one piece. Needs a build thread.

Thanks.   Did you notice the Cap 231 on the on the work stand?    They're both from the same collection (I think Hanger9..??)

Up until last night, the Extra had a stick out of the rear end of it that I use to use as my stick plane to practice Imac unknown sequences.

I see it now! The 231 is my favorite Cap actually 😍 I always wanted to get into IMAC aerobatics. Used to do a bit of the 1:1 version of it, it's called IAC.

Got frustrated by the parts I "thought I had" for a "quick" project, and instead turned my focus to sorting and decoding this...

Nice!   A couple friends stopped by a 1:1 IAC event on the way to an Imac contest years ago.  Really great to see the full scale stuff flying precision. The gyroscopic effects are so much more pronounced in full scale.

A friend I use to fly Imac with is now doing IAC in a Christen Eagle.   What plane did you do aerobatics in?

Gave my DT-03 a little spin.

VideoCapture_20240201-104658

It's faster than the dog. And she's not a slow dog.

I can really see the impact in driving terms of low friction in the shocks. Even one with a slightly bent shaft (replacement incoming) is far more active with its x-rings than a good one with red o-rings. And now the fronts don't stick when left, as they did before. A little underdamped I guess this thing would be very sloppy round a track and poor on jump landings but it is fun like this and it's not phased by a rough surface, and that's what I mostly have. My next development to it will be smaller hole pistons in an effort to introduce a little pack and a shade more damping to improve those shortcomings, ideally retaining most of its composure over rough ground. But we're into small changes.

I like these tyres too. Pity I can't remember what they are.

I have also noticed that my motor was getting hot when I had a sensor wire issue and it sometimes dropped into sensorless mode. Sensored and zero timing and it's cool as a cucumber, even on grass.

M scale rally tire / wheel assembly. Really pleased how it’s turning out. Detailing to come. Looks fantastic on the vehicle! It will motivate the project towards finish.

GR Yaris WRC Recce Vehicle

For those that missed it. It’s a rally inspired Michelin Tire decal for both M and regular Tamiya tires. Same for the OZ racing, fits M scale and full scale rally type wheels. Meticulously drawn and fitted, outsourced printing professionally in a nice matte finish

Here they´re mounted up and made to look like OZ racing wheels but are Ronal R10´s.

Today I decided I wouldn't pre-order a Manta Ray and I don't actually need the items I was racking up in my Plaza Japan cart (so I emptied it).  So I've saved myself around £175.

I'm quite proud of myself!

Today I retrieved my RC tools from storage and spent a little time advancing my M-08R build.

The next step requires some holes to be made so I'll leave that until next time.

Two of my motors (BZ and GT) were fitted with ball bearings. It was a bit difficult with the GT Tuned because it is not intended to be disassembled. With patience it still worked without destroying it. I hope I have helped them to have a longer lifetime.
Side note: Tamiya & ball bearings — status of relationship: mysterious. 😉

After waiting and waiting for a good day to drive this thing, I finally took it for a spin. Believe it or not a plain old TL01 lives underneath all of this.

“Made” some “Re-Re” motors for upcoming projects. I like to do this as a representation of the hot motors from back in the day. Cheap 540’s from AliExpress, and motor stickers from MCI. It’s a shame about the gold/bronze coloured endbells, but still look the part IMO. It seems Yokomo have done the same with the Esprit??

I drove the TT02SR and the TA02 Drift. The SR now has a 7.5t motor instead of 11.5t and is a great pleasure to drive. It's amazing that it's still so easy to maneuver and control. Shortly before the battery ran out, I lost a wheel nut. It's been a long time since this happened to me. ;-)
With the TA02 the first time I had the feeling: Wow, this is real drifting! The front one-way diff has changed a lot. I also installed an ancient brushless set. And it works! Since it is quite heavy, I added about 50g of weight on the right side to ballance the weight distribution.

Spent some time gluing up tires for my TD2 and Thunder Shot...

kM7pw2Y.jpg

Have mentioned how much I HATE gluing tires?

I opted to try a new glue at the recommendation of my LHS, so CowRC IC-2000 Black Rubber Toughened CA was used for the TD2.  This stuff is THICK!  Thick thick thick!!!  Using it ended up being quite the hassle as it really doesn't "flow" at all.  So the tires are sorta glued on with a series of drops of glue, instead of a bead from capillary action.  Time will tell if it actually holds or not.

Due to the lack of flow (and fear of getting the black on white wheels), I switched back to GRP Revo-Glue... which I was trying to move away from as it is also pretty thick.

Ya.

Not many smiles around these parts right now....LOL.  On the plus side, I only glued one finger to a tire, so that's better than my usual track record.

I suppose you have tried and confirmed that you absolutely needed to glue these tires? I have found the most of the time I didn't need to glue them. I usually test drive the car and try to knock them loose without glue and depending on the result I glue or not.

M chassis tires, (hard) rally block tires and M2 tires didn't need glue, for example, while the floppy Super Slick tires absolutely needed to be glued.

Caulking diluted with white vinegar works and the result can be disassembled so I no longer use any sort of CA glue.

I typically won't glue tires on stuff that is in place pretty good, and won't see a ton of driving or any real hard use.

The TD2 has a 10.5t motor, and the proline rubber is soft, so it certainly needs to be glued down.  The Thunder Shot wheels?????????? Dunno.  They are probably in the grey zone as far as it being "required", but I figured better safe than sorry.

I've tried to use caulk before, and never really had good luck with it sticking.  Very realistic chance I'm just bad at applying it too....lol.
