Took the BBX out for a spin, and you know what I genuinely enjoyed it. Glad I gave it one more chance as I wasnt getting on with it before!

Bought a used brushless motor/Esc combo because it was cheap but regretting it in hindsight.

Looking at it, it needs quite some TLC.

The motor is dirty, gritty, some mounting hole thread damage.

It is salvageable, a good clean and new bearings will bring it a long way. But next time, new stuff only.

I haven't actually done anything but just thinking of doing something. I've been pondering, a week or so to be exact, if I should buy the Turbo Optima? It looks cool but it is a bit pricey. I've got the Mid, not yet built. I'd also like to drive either one if I buy the Turbo. MST MTX-1 is looking tempting too.

I finished the chassis to my GF01FT and got the electronics installed. All I need to do now is sort out the forward and reverse stuff with the speedo and transmitter and then paint the body but that's gonna have to wait for warmer weather. Talk about a fun build but I never want to have that much fun again.

In the last days I swapped the dampers between GF01 and XV01. Cleaned, refilled and fitted with suitable springs. With the large wheels, the plastic oil dampers on the GF01 are sufficient. And my XV01 deserves the little upgrade.
By the way I learned again that the grey wishbones of the XV01T are far too soft to permanently attach dampers to. Sooner or later I'll install the black ones.

I mounted the rear end of my 1/12 MF01X 934 RSR. White sticky pads are not greatTM but I'm otherwise happy with the progress and will switch the white pads for black sponge tape. It has the Tamtech Gear hidden front-end body posts providing a bunch more security

Started to put my xv01 back together today, and quickly discovered I need either another front shock tower or the carbon fiber version so that I can achieve the results I’m going for . I decided the carbon one would be best of course . Problem is I can’t just have one shock tower carbon, so I’ll have to get two.. and might as well get nicer shocks if I’m going through all the trouble of putting hop ups on it, which just leads to more hop ups… so since I’m clearly going down an expensive path I decided I’d hop on buyee and get myself an already hopped up xv01 to save myself a bit of money. So now I have that on the way :D.

Probably not the best plan as I’m sure once my xv01 is done I’ll just end up buying whatever parts I need to get the second going anyway, but it seemed like a logical/cheaper solution in the moment

Finally got my hands on an early 90's Tamiya Radio Controlled Guide Book (1991). I used to read these to death as a kid.

Cleaned out the gritty used brushless motor and installed new bearings.

It still runs a bit rough, but I'll use it as-is as it is intended as a spindle motor for a CNC machine. Makes a lot less running noise compared to the brushed 775 motor it uses now at high RPM.

I thought I forgot to order replacement gears for the elecftrified Mugen Seiki so ordered a brass/nylon center gear set to see if that is less noisy compared to the all metal I had installed.
Looking at my order history I came accross the order for the TNX chassis, which also included a new gearset for the Mugen, so plenty of spare gears coming this way now.

Also found the TNX chassis had a broken upright, found a spare set on eBay.

Now to find some coolant for my credit card..... No more ordering stuff for this month.

Found the time to sit down and get to sorting out parts for the steering on the Rising Fighter. I need to get it on (or off) the road again. It bothers me that the kids' Christmas present is languishing on a shelf in the cellar at the moment.

Got bored over the weekend, Its bone stock, even using the original motor.  Have installed an 8 channel receiver ESC & battery, waiting on sound system, but have started the install of lights.  Still haven't had a good day to paint, so this is the third item waiting for paint.

Got my 10yo son to service and upgrade the CVAs on his DT-03. I suggested we just service them, since in this case they feel like they're already working fine. His response: "Dad, what do we want, 'fine' or 'perfection'?" So we're going for X-rings, shaft guides, pistons out of the DF-03 aluminium shocks in the front and blanks drilled to 3x1.2mm in the rear. So basically lowest friction sealing and best fitting pistons, the best way I know of to assemble a CVA. Only the plastics will be kept. He has a point, mine does drive better with its smoother shocks. It'll be interesting to see if we can make a noticeable difference.

The red diaphragms in the rears seem to have deteriorated over time, kind of perishing. Bit surprised, it's not like it's vintage, although I suppose it has had 2 years of use. No matter, I have new ones.

Almost done, just light buckets and wing mirrors to go (waiting for TS 48 paint to arrive). Used Orange, backed with white, rather than camel yellow as the box art looked more Orange!

I saw my first seathurtle today while scuba diving in Egypt. Driving through the desert right now to visit a nearby town and wishing I could have taken an RC car with me to drive around here.

Cool track!

My first turtle was snorkeling off of Gili Trawangan in Indonesia, where my (now) wife and I got engaged. Amazing to see and luckily enough saw another one the next day.

Team C Ford Puma Decals + BittyDesign P10R Bodyset ( Ford Puma )

I will try my very best with these! Team C bodyset ( not pictured ) will either be sold off or make a experimental complicated test car camouflage livery as it is of far poorer quality.

Sat down with son to do a few mins of tinkering between all the table tennis, cricket and tennis practice.

It's so satisfying when things slide together just so.

20240216_152406

These 11mm blanks (42332) are a bit of a dream ticket with Short CVAs because it's an unusual bore size and they are a perfect fit. I must get some more. Drilled to 3x1.2mm (bought a Schumacher drill set, which should be handy). And fitted with x-rings and white guides, so they are super smooth.

Fingers crossed we might give the DT-03s a wee run tomorrow.

I think next time I drill some blanks I'll go for more holes and experiment with hole sizes to learn about "pack" - not these ones though, these need to be fit and forget in son's basher.
