Put the Blazing Blazer and Toyota Hilux into their new clear plastic storage boxes, very happy.

There is even enough room for the radio gear and other bits in there as well, easy to stack and looks much tidier.

The BB has been in a Big Yellow storage box since September 2017, with the very occasional outing for the odd photo 😊

The cars even have covers inside the storage bins 🤯

Not today, but last Sunday: I finally decided to visit the local RC track, which is off-road. To make a long story short me and my buddy had way too much fun to remember taking pictures so this is all I got, snapped quickly before we left:

KcbXXXE.jpg

I think a bit of rambling is in order... My obsession has always been to get into on-road racing. After barely scratching the surface of it in Japan in 2019 I found myself back in the US where on-road racing is, well, not available anywhere (and that is a massive euphemism). I tried to keep the skills up with my own home-based RCP track (1:27 scale), postal racing etc but I have been binding my time. The next geographical location to which we will relocate is supposed to be better suited for finally getting into on-road racing.

Now, let's talk about off-road :)

When we moved to AZ in 2020 I expectantly looked at the "RC track" google maps results and sure enough there were a few off-road results but only one on-road one. The on-road guys ceased operations since then, but they are hopeful to resume this year in June says FB. I will believe it when I see it.

Then last weekend I decided that it wouldn't hurt me to go check out one of the off-road tracks with one of my work mates. Well, I didn't realize how lucky I was to live 35min from a top notch facility, which actually housed the 2023  IFMAR Worlds, no less!

So I showed up as a complete beginner, not even with Tamiya cars in grocery bags (ahem, @Ferruz) but empty handed, since my fleet was always carefully planned to exclude any sort of off-road truck or buggy :D Instead, I rented a 2WD Slash's for a few $ (another vehicle I never thought could be fun). The rentals are in "training mode" in order survive any driver of any skills and age: thankfully they won't clear the jumps. But it was the perfect way to learn the track layout and rhythm, even if that was in slow motion. Then after half an hour of so my buddy let me drive his own AWD Slash and I started jumping which is surprisingly difficult and therefore satisfying when you can land without crashing. Also the general vibe and demographics was very pleasant with everyone super nice and giving advice and tips. Now I am totally hooked...

Painting the TNX's custom body. The base color is ready, next up the bed and fake Windows. Then on to the details.

Finally finishing up some prototyping of bits.

A proper 930mm chassis for the TA02 with the 934 body since that other guy seems to have stopped offering them; a custom front bumper adapter to use standard TRF style foam bumpers and the ubiquitous 51253 bumper parts with front mounted body posts.

Almost ready for public consumption...

Nice one @Pylon80, and well done for showing up without grocery bags 😂 indeed, one could argue that yours was a better approach, using a rental to get your bearings first, rather than risking a precious body shell worth many hours of work

I get it that your are hooked, man, for sure. Since I went to the track, I haven't had the chance to go back yet but I've been thinking about it every single day.

Good to learn the vibe was good over there as well! I'm sure you'll go back soon, and am also wondering if your next relocation will see you in my neck of the woods again? Wishing you the best with both ;)

It so very nearly happened! But now it looks like we might be headed a tiny bit further south, as in, on the opposite side of the planet, up in @Re-Bugged land! But let's not count our chickens just yet ;)I'm still in AZ for at least this year if not the next.

@Pylon80 sweet! Looks like you've got some good options. About that, as much as I'd like very much to meet you in person, I certainly can understand the choice... I left a chunk of my heart in @Re-Bugged land myself, and thoughts/dreams of re-relocation do still come up at home quite consistently.

Maybe eventually we will all reunite Down Under to run our RCs together :D

Today I think I must have watched the funniest RC YT vid I’ve seen to date, definitely more entertaining than an ‘unboxing’

A good start to the day - he's racing it like there's no tomorrow ... just my kind of fun! :D It has a certain Mr Scruff and "Get a move on" vibe to it.

I have been thinking about this a good bit lately ... how to be open to other possibilities, RC-wise. I wasn't up to the crawlerspace, thinking "what's the point, noodling around in the mud, huh?" And then I gave in and at least put the toe in the mud and hey, it clicked and now I see lines and opportunities everywhere.

Those vids had been popping up in my Insta feed @Re-Bugged - I must go and check out the YT channel....

Loving your work @Wystan Withers. I have a set of the Maxspeed chassis plates, that bumper plate finishes it off nicely!

Of course, now I have a donor car, I like it too much to harvest it for parts

A bash round the garden in the sun for a wee break from work!  Some realistic rally car knocks, dents and scuffs being added to the bodywork 🫣

I think this series is my new favourite thing!

Is that van built on a comical tamiya chassis?

It's just marvellous isn't it? I do wonder what's underneath. I like how it's just constantly on the edge of tipping over but the video largely captures it just about holding on, and of course the pret sandwich addiction backstory!
