I unboxed an Associated Electronics RC 10 40th Anniversary Edition - I got #4364.    I'm starting to think this run is going to be 5,000 units.   I did not see a number published on their site - which I think was on purpose.    I think they wanted to gauge sales and not give people a tip off on how many there would be to create some panic buying - like I did lol

I haven't decided, box art or not, but I'm leaning toward not.  I'm leaning toward something sorta out of the ordinary.   To be honest, I really like the silver chassis and parts of the CC better than the gold parts despite them being iconic.   Your color combos are more limited with gold parts.

I am very close to my favourite part: shocks and electronics 🙄

Got after it with the pink.   Not sure how much more splatter I'm going to do.   Since the shell is staying clear, it will be a fine line of too much and not enough splatter.  Also trying to decide how to paint the rollbars.   Inside or outside.  I'd like to do them outside with a matte finish if I can figure out a way to do it.   RC Retro Channel did it on his build.    I liked how it turned out.

Today, (yesterday actually) I painted up a spare body TBG sent along for my Big Brute. As I began stickering it up with some odds-n-ends I had laying around, I noticed it was beginning to resemble a certain member's Big Boss, so I went with it.;)

Haven't seen those tires before. Are they good for the original Kyosho rims?

I took the Firedragon for a run today.

DSCF6901.JPG

I have spent many late hours rebuilding the front suspension of the green vintage frog and cleaning it's wheels

DSCF6883.JPG

I did an experiment and used ceramic grease on the front spring holders instead of anti-wear grease, it makes the front suspension noticeably softer.

It looks like you painted your firedragon the same color as mine, or is yours purple.

It's metallic purple, but yours looks even better in blue

Kyosho rims have proven to be tricky to get tires for. My setup involves Tamiya clamp-on/pin wheel hexes, Jconcepts 2.2 Midwest rims (whose multiple offset adapters allow me to get the width correct) and Axial BKT SMT10 tires. They are roughly the same width/diameter as the classic Kyosho Bridgestones from the Big Boss/Hi-Rider Vette/Double Dare. I'm debating about trying Wheely King tires as their shorter height better approximates the old Big Brute tires.

At lunch ran a battery pack through one of my TA02 pre runners. The lipo gives this truck a jolt of power that mimicks the dramatic chassis / body movements of a 1:1 pre runner diving and squatting. An absolute blast. Very fun to watch / run.

Completely stock truck including bushings..  Silver can, 1060 70A, Ruddog 2S 4000mah C shape. The silver can was about 2 billion degrees after haha.

A little backstory on these pretty nicely scaled pre runners. Back in the early 90s I always wanted one as a kid but Tamiya was obscure, expensive and not easy to get ahold of in my area so about age 8-9 I was fortunate to get a “real” rc for Christmas it was a 2wd Traxxas Sledgehammer kit. Great memories, significant hours were had with it. Must’ve been an expensive project for my parents.  It’s where the bug bit terminally. I always dreamed of this sort of power, realism and runtimes!

I have a total of three ta02 pre runners and two bodysets I should make up some liveries paint them up.

Some evening´s ago I put some time into a variant Legacy RS body. Applying the kit decals, which when used selectively are quite nice. Looks realistic in daylight in my opinion. Made to fit the XV-02.

Today, I checked back in here for the first time in about 6 months! Great to see some familiar names still producing outstanding work, others putting their cars to good use as Mr T intended B)

I've been away a while...after a lifetime of renting we finally bought our first house in November, out in the Welsh countryside. It's been a full on whirlwind of building work, decorating and sorting ever since  Typically, what we could afford to buy is smaller than what we could afford to rent (the system is so bent), so we're down on room and I've had to make a choice between my two space-consuming hobbies; RC kits or records.

Music is my first love, so it always wins.

As a result, all my RC stuff has been shoved up in the loft since we moved. Over the last week or so I've been digging it out and going through it all to work out what's what and have decided to put a few of my projects up for sale. Anyone who has followed any of my build threads, particularly the bits-a-builds, the hopped up Dark Impact, the 49400 or the Super-Dooper Astute may recognise a few of them

They all bought me massive joy building them but I'm not going to have space to display them for a good few years and there's no point them rotting away in the loft so on they go...coming soon to a well known auction site near you ;)

This isn't the end...I've still got a couple of buggies to run in the woods around here and about 10 bits-a-build projects boxed up and ready to go, so once I've finished big-scale problem solving and decorating I'll be able to treat myself to some 1:10 fun

Keep up the good work folks 👍

Good to see ya back! Congratulations on the house and Welsh countryside does sound appealing. Sad for you if you're pushed to sell but happy for you if it's all part of good life moves and it sounds like it is.

Super Astute you say? Man I would love one of those! Would you post up as and when you're selling? I'm interested although I guess that's a sought after model (I don't know much/anything about the market so it's probably a pie in the sky).

A great half term day of two (maybe three) halves here at Buggy Dad & Lad towers. I introduced him to postal racing with the Silverstone track, and we had some 2 minute runs with the XV-01 and M-08. We fitted new front tyres to the XV-01 and it ate the tight bends for breakfast. I've never seen it run so well. It was tough for a 10yo to drive though, it's a rocket when you open it up and I hadn't realised how I'd got used to never using more than half throttle. It took me far longer than such a simple task should to set the dual rate down, after which it was much more suitable for him.

Then I introduced him to Mohawk (it doesn't live at home - he hadn't seen it). It gave me great pleasure that he absolutely loved it. We fitted old road wheels and just played with it. I left him to it and sometime later he came in rather sheepishly. It'd had a full gas head on with a steel fence. Front structural parts a mess.

20240530_172802

But hey ho, that's kind of the point - "let's see what breaks and how, and then change it" was a big part of my intended approach, so I've learned a bit from that and I already had most of the necessaries printed. Still some work to do so it's not running again yet but it's 90% back and will be tomorrow if I print one more part.

So we went out for hot chocolate and cake. On our return he says "you know that laptrax thing? I reckon I could code something like that." the icing on the cake. What have I spawned? So we had a lovely time working together on the broken buggy, barbecue supper then off he goes into this kids programming thing he likes called "Scratch". And by bedtime the little blighter has a voice countdown start and a thing that responds to camera inputs by ticking up a lap count. Mind blown!

I’ve got my June RC plans set out in my mind now -

1) Finish the Blitzer and run it.

2) Buy the roof and driver sprue for a Buggy Champ, and repair the Rough Rider body shell.

3) Sell the 3rd Lunchbox

4) Dust down the SRB Ranger and carry out some small jobs on it.

5) Try to not buy any additional RC models.

1 - 4 is achievable 😂

It's great to have you back on board @Juhunio and very glad to hear you have got yourself your own pad and are settling into it well :)

I've always been a big fan of your builds - they have been a big source of info and inspiration for some of mine - and I look forward to seeing more of your great work in the future.

Whoever gets to be the next custodians of your builds will be very fortunate individuals - they are exceptionally well built and have some of the best upgrades and hop ups ever - a true showpiece to anyone's collection. If it wasn't for the fact I have equally run out of display space I'd be very very tempted.....

Sorted more of my rc stuff, it is slowly getting there  but have to do more.

Rebuild the diff on my hpi jumpshot, the gears where worn, could not find original gears on most shops they where on back order, only in the USA they where on stock  but they  where more expensive, and  a lot of shipping cost.

Then  I noticed that they sell harderned metal ones for the car on Aliexpress, they where a lot cheaper and no shipping cost, so I hope that these are holding up much longer.
