Found some old  wheels and tyres for my TD4 in order to keep the stock ones shelf fresh when it’s on display.

The arrival of my Shorty 2s lipo allowed me to squash the electrics in and clear the prop shaft with the bodyshell on.. all ready for a longer run than 2 minutes in the back garden.

The missing front fender is growing on me, like a 3 legged dog just gets your ❤️

I know the TD4 splits opinion but if you’ve never seen inboard dampers move then you don’t know what you’re missing 🤪

I still ahve the dark impact in the box as I have been a little too busy to start the build, but the time has served me well (I hope) as today I decided to go to a brushless set up and Li-po batterys! And treated her to team accosiated dampers all round!

hopefully start the build tomorrow

P.s is anyone else having problems uploading pictures here, I keep getting a error message saying -200

Posted the MFX01 out today to a TC member, found a decal sheet to send out to another TC member tomorrow  and bought something shiny for the Lunchbox kit.

With the arrival of the TS50 ESC, I can get the MG Evo to a running state.

9VMa9J7.jpg

Fans are on order for the motor and ESC.

8WvrBO0.jpeg

Went for a 32T pinion to go with thr 80T spur giving a FDR of 5.

NoX1d9h.jpg

That should give me a top speed of 28mph, breaking the target of 25mph.

7whzoQ0.jpg

Took it out to the usual alleyway for a trim drive. It actually went quite straight straight out of box with just a touch of trim required.

Might be the picture, but is that pinion mesh ok? The pinion almost looks a different pitch to the spur?

This is for last night, but I was working on my Nikko sleeper project again, and getting pretty frustrated.

If you read my previous posts, you'd know I was having issues with toasty motors.

This is despite some people on youtube etc claiming to have run faster motors on 3s and their motors getting "barely warm"

I already put a LOT of time and effort into making sure this car had no binding or undue resistance in the transmission, but after getting this issue, I dived in once again, just to be sure.

I took the gearboxes totally apart, checked the bearings, checked the mesh etc. Re-assembled, and installed my "dummy motor" which is an old motor with the magnets etc removed so it's little just a free spinning shaft, couldn't detect any undue resistance of any kind in either the front or rear gearboxes. I compared it to my other cars of the same design but still standard (Super Dictator and Radio Shack Road Phantom) and the transmission all runs just as smoothly as those do.

I really can't see how there is any issue with the driveline.

So why are my 27T motors getting red hot on 2s if people claim to have no issues running 12T motors on 3s with a larger pinion which would cause a tighter mesh than mine, if anything. There's also a guy on a French form who claims to have used 2 x 20T motors on 3s with "luke warm" motor temps.

Is it simply because they drive relatively sedately, doing straight line passes over and over,  vs me "turning and burning" with a lot of throttle variation and fast cornering on the throttle etc? I know sometimes people run tamiya brushed motors on 3s with no issues, but others have done it and had smoke signals in minutes, so I guess driving style and terrain etc do play a role...

Or are they telling fibs?

A  bit of both?

I just can't help but worry I'm still doing something wrong, and I don't want to try experimenting with slightly slower motors or altered gearing etc until I can rule that out entirely.

Going from 390 to 540 motors should have been a no brainer way to get a power boost and I assumed the motors wouldn't have to work particularly hard.

Yes, it requires going from 10t to 12t pinions, a significant 20% increase in teeth, but that one guy went to 13T and claims no hot motors, so....*shrug*

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You are right, that picture was taken before I torque down the motor screws. It is a reminder for me on what gears I used. Pitch is correct. I got bags of pinions for 48dp and it is from that stash.

Received and double checked the quality on the Rothmans decals I drew and had outsourced to print professionally. Not sure I have it in me until the autumn to dig into the build but it’s nice when parts come together for multiple builds. Inspiring autumn and winter to come! Will be another one with full LED lighting.

Yesterday I've put strips of foil on my old Peugeot 406 to help me see it better on the track. In fact, it proved very helpful today when I did a few laps with the TT02SR. 🙂

I also drove my XM01 and noticed that I should set a bit (more) toe-out at the front. Otherwise, my first impressions were confirmed: the car is great fun to drive, center diff, steering and suspension work excellently.

Presented to my girl her wired up ready to go Mg Evo, for her to have a go.

KyfTokn.jpeg

Moved on to the finishing, but it turns out that the LWB (238mm) setup I done was too long for the body. I had to reduce it to SWB (210mm) instead.

jwvdZpe.jpeg

Here are the 2 Mg Evos side by side. Her brand new (and very clean) SWB one and my very dirty LWB one.

JbhkEEB.jpeg

So what is the body? Well here it is!

It's a RC Bee! With its anticipated top speed of 28mph, it should beat the fastest bee on record of 25mph.

Now the problem. I made too many holes for the body posts. Now I have to figure out a way to cover them up. Stickers are the first thing that comes to mind. I will see if she has any she will like to use.

I put some more details on the Zuk body. I still need to do the side windows but all in all I am super happy with the way the Zuk body looks on the GF01FT. I like it so much better than the Toyota FJ body it came with.

I’ve got my June RC plans set out in my mind now -

1) Finish the Blitzer and run it.

2) Buy the roof and driver sprue for a Buggy Champ, and repair the Rough Rider body shell.

3) Sell the 3rd Lunchbox

4) Dust down the SRB Ranger and carry out some small jobs on it.

5) Try to not buy any additional RC models.

1 - 4 is achievable 😂

Junes plan didn’t quite all happen, so the revised version will roll over into July 😂

I did sell 2 Tamiyas and a motor, putting about a 1/3 of this back into buying  parts for models I already own 👍

1) Finish the Blitzer and run it a bit more.

2) Paint the Rough Rider driver and roof.

3) Maybe move the MB-01 along (TBC)

4) Dust down the SRB  Ranger and do some small jobs on it.

5) Purchase some small parts for the Grasshopper and Lunchbox.

6) The hardest bit…not buy anymore ‘T’ 🤦‍♂️

We’ll see how we go with point 6 😉

Attachment points for wings perhaps?

That is one of the ideas. However the rear set of holes are too far to the rear and will not look right. The front can for sure be used, just need to find suitable wings, which I tasked the wife to do so.

Tracing paper (or thin plastic) with a sharpie of the outline of the wings would look great and quite realistic over a solid colour.

Could a servo be used to move them up and down? :D

My daughter school has an inset day ( kids day off while teachers receive training) so she is stuck home today, the wife shouts out to get her lunchbox ready for going out later, not sure she meant the RC though.

It will be my maiden run with the TD4 and I have high hopes from the indoor testing it’s done, super sharp and crisp with its TBLM-02S 10.5T motor and Quicrun 10BL120.

I am thinking of fairy wings, like kids dress up type (that is why the wife got the task of finding some). They tends to be flexible and therefore damage resistant. Paper or thin card, I am concerned that they will be torn out at the speed.

While the servo idea is good, the concern the drag at speed damaging things is still there. I need to give this some thought.

I took two of my trucks for a quick blast on the BMX track. The hot dry weather has turned the surface into dust, so lots skidding around.

First was the GF01. Sparky on the BMX track, and actually jumps and lands quite well.

I also took the MF01x for a quick blast. A little sparkier than the GF01, but handled well.

Very cool @Nikko85. Our local BMX track has a very prominent 'no RC' sign :(

It has a nice big field next to it though :D

Mist get there with some monster trucks this summer...

I'm the only person I've ever seen with an RC car there, and I only use 1/12 cars on weekdays WFH, so I think I can slip under the radar!
