After been on holidays for one week already I've managed to go to the beach with the TD2 this evening. The car is way to slow for a large spaced beach. The current Dirt tuned motor and 1060 ESC will be swapped for a brushless combo I have in my parts box. The layout of the chassis is probably not the best for beach running with the motor before the rear axle. Swirled up sand is flooding the chassis and also get to the motor. Will see what has happend with the gearbox and motor when I change the motor.

Nevertheless I had some fun and also managed to take some pictures...

Nice shots @Aerobert! I am about to do the same. Leaving in a few hrs for a week at the beach. The heat is nice and consistent, but crossing fingers for sunshine and no rain.

This time I will be bringing not one, but three cars 🤠🤪😎

After weeks of pondering (I even thought about opening a poll here), I decided yesterday on which models to bring along.

The Hornet is by now a road trip staple and pretty much tragedy proof, so of course it will come. Second one will be the Mad Van: easy choice, but if I really end up running it on the beach I will devise some temporary cover for the chassis, as it sits relatively low.

The third car I chose is the Mid. I had such a good time running it the other day, I thought why not! I am excited to run it somewhere new, and I'll be good in case I find and RC track along the way. I may spare her the beach, but once there... we'll see.

Many action shots to come, I hope 🌅🚘

I sanded the wheel wells on my Alpine A110. Got it mounted to see how it sits, it's gonna look pretty awesome providing I don't mess it up. Still not sold on what colors to paint it. The only real constraints is that I need a PS and a TS of the same color. I am slightly leaning towards the orange Jager scheme if for not other reason than I have the sticker set and it comes with these little orange bits for the headlights.

As far as the M08 mechanicals go, I spent some time sorting out the weird steering linkage. I got it now were the left/right are equal and the servo travel doesn't bind or hit it's stop. I did have to dial out about 10% of the right compared to the left but it's getting there and I am happy. I also took some of the aggressive toe out to see if it will help with the twitchiness when transition back to power coming out of a turn. Now I just have to test it outside to make sure I didn't take too much out making it numb on turn in. We shall see. I've said it before, the M08 has been a love hate relationship but at the current, the love is STRONG.

XM-01 arrived about noon Wednesday, and of course I didn't take the time to put it in the postman thread (we've all seen the box). Open the box, pull out the damper stay sprue, and set to taking measurements and tuning the rough draft CF damper stays I had been tinkering with in Fusion while waiting for it to arrive. Couple hours later 3d printer go brrrr and start he build. Kit itself finished about midnight, another half- 3/4 day to cut out the dust cover/fenders (the word fiddly has been mentioned, and that's highly accurate... only poked myself with the X-acto 3 times which I consider a win). 3d printed prototype told me the screw holes did in fact line up, so I spent this morning milling, test fitting; milling, test fitting; milling, test fitting the oddly shaped hole for the body mounts and eventually... VICTORY!

(CF pattern here is larger than Tamiya's, but it was the only 3mm stock I had on hand so it had got pressed into prototype duty)

Started painting my Mini-Z Skyline 2000GT-R body. Tamiya TS-42 light gun metal + TS-96 fluorescent orange on top turned into this nice golden orange color.

Then finished the body for my Turbo TF-3

After getting everything hooked up I drove the "Not a Monster Monster Beetle" for a bit, as old as it is it doesn't drive terribly. Only problem was popping a shock cap during a bad landing

Took the dark impact out today, got to say I’m really getting frustrated with this car right now,

I got about 4 minutes out of the rear diff again after freshly rebuilding it AGAIN!

used tungsten balls put a new slipper clutch in, new pinion and changed every gear in the rear box, even put the metal parts used in the front diff into the rear to minimise amount of components

I’m no expert obviously as I’m so new to this but I’m at the conclusion that the Tamiya ball Diff isn’t worth a blow on a rag mans trumpet!!!

Swapped the motor and ESC on my beach runner today from brushed to brushless. Should be plenty more power now. Will be tested on Monday as we will going to Legoland Billund tomorrow. :)

Im Not sure if this is sarcasm or not,  I do apologise if it isn’t but I’m new to this and every time I try to seek help on where im going wrong it’s met with rolled eyes!

And thanks if your being serious I really was in 2 minds weather to inflict abuse on this car today!

I just spent two days in Legoland Billund as well. The roller coasters and other rides were great fun with the kids, but it was also fun to see how many of the cars in the Miniland could be recognized. My favorites were Porsche 911, Audi Ur-Quattro and Volvo 740 🙂

I'm absolutely serious. This forum is usually no place for sarcasm if someone is seeking for help. Unfortunately I can't help you with your problem with the ball diff though as I don't have a DF-03. But maybe you could clarify the problem so that someone else with knowledge of the chassis can help you.

I don't have any experience with the DF03 in particular, but from my understanding ball diffs need to be tightened quite a bit and require more maintenance than typical gear diffs.

for the last couple of weeks I have been prepping some cars for an anticipated run next weekend. A Ford Escort MF-01X that I'd built when I first got COVID a couple of years ago, a Subaru Brat obtained built but never run), a Kyosho Scorpion (bought second hand, seems to have had little usage) and a Rising Storm I got for free, which turned out to only need a set of new tires. I'm looking forward to this run as it'll be my first decent run in 5 years. Luckily it seems I have managed to store my Lipos properly and they are all good, but my original Flysky controller was a bit flakey. So a new FS-GT3C controller has made an appearance :D

Received my 3 new servo’s and set about replacing that slow Etronix ES045 servo out of my newly built TT02 kit in a bag… what a faff!

Before you roll your eyes at me for curing at a basic TT02 let me explain I may well be a full on numpty,  but I do try my best not to be 😂

There, that’s the scene laid out now you know where I’m coming from… so servo mounts… and low profile servo’s, how come no one ever mentioned the stock TT02 servo mounts will not work with a low profile servo?

The TT02 servo mount is on the left, and in the right is one I eventually found in one of my many parts bins,  is that a from a TL01 or just a generic mount for many Tamiya’s like Lunchbox etc?

Notice the width, how wide that TT02 mount is well, once mounted under the ears of the servo that width covers the low profile servo wires pinching them quite painfully, so painfully I daren’t tighten it up past a loose test fit.

So after much cursing and hunting I have now fitted and tested the new servo, and the point of this post is to say how much quicker this new servo is, PDI-4409MG and I’m a happy bunny again.

I’ll test later in the month outdoors on a full run with its 3100kv motor, but indoors it’s alot quicker and all 3 servos work so its a good start.

3 for £30 total took 2 weeks or so from EBay 😇

This is for the other night, a quick test run with the Nikko project now with brushless motors.

Hoping to get more video later today with the wiring all shortened and squeezed under the electronics cover so I can get the body back on!

Apologies for the quality, I took the video just after sunset, and the gopro was struggling + I brightened the footage in post.

Decided to pick up the damaged vintage Rough Rider body shell today.

I bought a ReRe B parts sprue recently and today the roof and a pair of spots lights were spray painted silver, no prep, just 2 coats of paint.

As the shell has been broken in 2 places it will be a runner, I think it will look nice enough from 10 feet get away.

As all in all it will owe me less than £10, I won’t feel the need to be precious about it either.

You must be very pleased with the outcome 👏

A good improvement!

Currently working on shortening all the wiring.

Haven't been this invasive with a soldering iron since before I got distracted from the hobby fir a few years. Anxiety levels through the roof!

Managed to go from this:

Nju7Nr6.jpg

To this:

f05yK4g.jpg

And it still works and goes in the right direction!

1 down, 1 to go!

Then I might try and parallel the battery cables inside the chassis so it's only 1 lead coming out. And wire both power switches to the original nikko power switch.

I'm going to prioritise just getting the body to fit for a run today, though, so will see how it goes!

The RCs have had their first outing since being packed away at the end of last year when the garage was demolished.

1000016490.jpeg

El Kid set up a very technical circuit. Tough going for a hooligan like the Outlaw.

More Tamiya related is the progress on our CR-01 monster truck. We ran it without a shell and it was given the name 'No Lid' as a result. I bought a shell quite a while ago but only now have we had an opportunity to paint it.

Junior had the idea of a kind of 'see through' shell. So there is a motor on the bonnet and battery on the rear deck with wires in between. Stickers will hopefully make this more obvious.

Yesterday was a real joint effort, kid decided on a font and we worked out the best sizes, printed them out and then traced them on to masking which I then cut out with a blade.

1000016465.jpeg

Full on day of painting today and I made a few errors but this is a shell to be used and abused so I need to get over it!

1000016492.jpeg

Of course, it wouldn't be a Badcrumble RC session without some issues. Having charged up two 5000mah GensAce packs, we discovered that we didn't have 8 (count 'em) AAs for the Outlaw's tx so we popped to the shop (stopping at at a neighbour's charity bake sale on the way back - every cloud :D).

Then the Nimh packs seemed to hold hardly any charge! Another go in the trusty Overlander got one of them back up to about normal but the other seems very tired.

During the battery charging hiatus I decided to charge the LiPo for No Lid but had trouble getting it going. Faffed around swapping my GT5 for a Dumbo, stealing half the batteries from the Outlaw, and then back again. My GT5 handset turns out to be a little worse for wear - the chassis needs a squeeze when you turn it on for it to turn on and stay on. A shame, it hasn't been dropped but perhaps got damaged in the move.

To end on a positive note, I got the body posts on the CR-01 installed. Just need to mount that shell and get it stickered up!
