Still a work in progress but it's moving along nicely. Not great, but good enough to run!

Inbetween painting the house and lawnmowing I was able to find time to rebuild both gearboxes. After the pic was taken the rear one got fully built in. Now both have steel idler gears, alu pullys and are carefully shimmed. I have it back together by Monday, I think. Both gearboxes are butter smooth, but the slack between the pin and idler gears are a but annoying. I have new G-parts, so I have tried with new plastic idler gears and it's all the same. Nevermind. Now it should be peace and quiet for a long time.

Ran my recently "restored" Falcon again, having tweaked the suspension a little bit and adding about 170g of weight to simulate the missing weight of a 4x AA pack, MSC and MSC servo.

Much better this time! The rear suspension actually moves, now! The front end is still a bit too firm and over damped. I need some of those old 4 hole piston discs for the front, too, I think! 100cst oil with the standard discs is still too much damping.

Also took out another recently revived project I had set aside for years. A Radio Shack "Flashtron" basically a Nikko F10 buggy with an outlandish body and larger wheels. I put a brushless motor in it way back around 2017 but could never get it to go in a straight line.

Eventually worked out a rear tyre was slipping but had moved on to other things by that point.

Finally took it out today to make some video. As expected from an F10 chassis and big power, it was virtually undrivable. Very similar to trying to drive a brushless Grasshopper on tarmac but more top heavy. Absolutely wrestled with the thing to keep it upright! Good for a laugh but not very practical. Would probably be good for the beach, which is also the only place my grasshopper really works well when you put a brushless in it.

I wonder how much of an improvement would be made converting it to 4 link like I did with the lunchbox...hmmmm

Bit annoying but took my RC10T for its maiden voyage in the back garden and all was well could see it needed slight adjustment on the front toe in but on its actual first turn left the wheels went in opposite directions I just thought it was me not connecting something on the steering but no the bellcrank had actually snapped:o:angry: I tried to glue it just to get a first run but unsuccessfully didn’t happen!

Added windows and googly eyes to my latest racing teapot.

Waiting for his hat to arrive in the post, and considering using different tubing for his spout and handle.

I think it's safe to call this project "done", this was a $50 Stampede roller that I freshened up with some parts that I had sitting around, modern electronics, and a used Bigfoot shell. The shell just needs some patching up in the back but it'll work for now.

Love it. I know it's not a proper MT chassis, but it does look like a blast!

Thanks, it still has that monster truck "look", like a Blackfoot or Lunchbox. Most newer monster truck "bashers" look like truggies with big wheels and a truck shell.

This project is now done, I ordered 70mm OD tires but they are more like 74 mm, oh well. I may well soften the suspension a little so it sits a little lower, as right now it's more jacked up than I'd like. I think I have some quick drive springs that I've used for super soft CVA shocks. Just a few mm drop would be perfect.

Here they are together. The QD version weights 985 grams, the MF01x 1600 grams.

I really like the idea of taking a Tamiya and turning it into something that Mr T never planned on the slightest. When the QD was made in '89 or so SCT definitely were not a thing!

So, who is team white and who is team blue?

Both look great, however if I had to choose, it would be Team Blue!

those old 4 hole piston discs

BITD I used the three hole pistons with the kit supplied oil ( I presume #400) and springs. I did cut the holes open to the side of the piston and added some red Hard (#800?) Oil afterwards to get the damping right.

Yep, we used to drill the holes out bigger, and/or cut the notches deeper on the outer edge of the piston discs.

Everything BITD seemed either way overdamped or way under (pogo style).

Having played Ivan Stewarts Super Off Road as a kid quite a bit, I'm obligated to go with Team White.

Changed out the Tamiya Carbon Decks on my TA02SW today with a magnificent new set hand crafted to perfection by our very own @Wystan Withers to give the Porsche 934 its correct wheelbase 😁 I feel homebrew engineering of this calibre gives a car more soul as well over generic off the shelf parts.

I had originally doctored the rear swing arms to make it fit, but the front wheels where rubbing slightly on the front arches at times.

No more rubbing and with the suppled spacers for the front body posts the wheels line up brilliantly (the back ones will once the swing arms are back to un-doctored mode.

Just need to take the prop shaft to work and squeeze it a bit for shortening. Very happy with it Wystan, Cheers my good man.

I unfortunately held off of a 45th anniversary 934 because of the wheelbase not fitting from the factory, had I have known this fix was on the horizon I would have probably got one. Never mind, there’s plenty of other things on the wish list to loose sleep over.

This morning I've started painting my Optima Mid LWB body hopefully in time for the Tamiya Junkies meet on Saturday. Nothing like leaving it till the last minute..

I've been putting this off for a week or more. I hate painting, primarily because I always end up rushing it..

Paid the remaining amount for my Fast Attack Vehicle from SC Models, built the universal shafts ready for it, and purchased the hop up wheel hubs, all ready for arrival tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Why thank you! It's actually a still from a video, so hopefully you'll get to see it in motion, soon.

I do try and take action shots with conventional cameras, sometimes, too, though! Hard work but the payoff is worth it!

Last night I took this beast out for an airing!

HBX T6 aka FTX Futura. Large 1/6 RWD 4s/6s buggy.

Absolute blast to drive, loads of power and tears up the terrain.

Sadly discontinued, now. The quirky looks probably didnt help it's case, it looks better with all the body panels removed, if anything! Based on an actual concept car, the Bowler Raptor. Perhaps if there had been an official endorsement it might have helped, too.

Forgot how fun it is to drive, it's so big, I didnt even take it out much for years until I got a backpack big enough!

Need to buy up a few spares while I still can/they are still sane money, cause the more I drive this one, the more I love it.
