Calmed down a bit by spending some quality time building a pair of dampers. No e-clips went missing. A great day this far. :D

That'll do for today. Not quite decided on the final colour. Was thinking black with a black wing. Or white, or red....

If you choose black, it’s like a German flag ^_^

Glued and mounted new tires on the TT-02R as I noticed my current race tires were getting worn after winning my Main last week.......

I also pulled the rear shocks off the Euro Truck to clean them and re-lube them as we allow the whole TCS "any moving part can be lubricated" thing and I noticed my truck getting a small case of the "bouncies" during my racing last week.

Today I didn't really do anything RC but I made* a thing!

20240813_212600

And it elevates me to a new level in RC land. I'm now a Shelf Guy (part time). Out of the closet, as it were. Precise placement down to my Chief RC Car Positioning Officer (aged 10 3/4).

I do like these two cars a lot. One is utter vintage bonkersness with extra features uncovered on each poke about (almost skateboard size bearings in the back wheels being today's), the other is just downright good. Both are immaculate, never run, complete with full electronics, even batteries, picked up at a recent auction in a rather frivolous moment but for not crazy money.

The beady eyed among you may note that further shelves await once I've worked out what to do with my Dad's old tankards. One will take a Falcon, others may accept psuedo-vintage runners in guest slots if they're clean. The proper oldies need to be out of reach of the shortest people who occasionally occupy my house. The Falcon was my childhood Tamiya - not the same one, but the one I have still needs a proper clean up as a minimum before it makes the shelf.

* don't mistake me for having a talent, I didn't make the shelves, what I made is the emptiness of the shelves, mainly by sending a load of video tapes and kids books to the charity shop. You may consider this a small task, but it's taken me four years.

Built and painted my WPL C24-1KM over the last couple of days with the finishing touches to the body this morning.

Off white prime, mask and paint the hood and drinkers side door+fender different colors as it has had a smash and some replacements :P

Tried out that two part rust thats becoming relatively popular, paint that contains iron filings and an activator that gets applied afterwards to make it rust, pleasantly surprised as the effect worked really well for no effort beyond stippling the paint on.

Add a bit brownish wash to further dirty it up and allow for lining the panels to make it pop a bit.

Ill probably rust the rims as well.

Except of some progress with DT-02, I found that LHS has Nitrage 5.2 on stock.

I thought that Nitro Tamiyas are totally dead.

I got to see one of those "MJX Hypergo" rally cars in person today. The detail is pretty impressive, what you can't see are the LED lights and body reinforcing underneath. I'd take one over a Latrax rally car or Grom.

On the downside, there is a lot of what I assume will be cheapo metal bits underneath, and it's very porky for its size, it feels heavier than a stock TT02. Also, it's a weird size so replacement bodies/electronics won't be easy to find.

I’m happy to say “I’m back” Been two months with everyone at home and some light traveling. I have had no rc time but lots of planning, purchasing, and selling 🤠

Here comes the autumn mania to finish before the year ends!

Below I hack away removing material of extremely hard lamp buckets by yokomo to have fit into my second McRae Subaru Legacy RS.  I’ve begun painting layers of XF clear onto the headlamps and tail lamps with a brush.

It will be great to scroll through everyone’s updates I’ve missed these past few months.

Yep, we used to drill the holes out bigger, and/or cut the notches deeper on the outer edge of the piston discs.

Everything BITD seemed either way overdamped or way under (pogo style).

I did try drilling out the 2 hole discs, but the holes are quite close to the edge and made the outside of the disc deform and bulge out.

I guess I could just try sanding notches into each side of the disc, nothing to lose at this point, I guess.

I have dozens of discs from newer style CVA I could try, too, but they are slimmer, so I would have to fit some washers or something between the disc and e clip to stop the slop.

Also took out another recently revived project I had set aside for years. A Radio Shack "Flashtron" basically a Nikko F10 buggy with an outlandish body and larger wheels. I put a brushless motor in it way back around 2017 but could never get it to go in a straight line.

Eventually worked out a rear tyre was slipping but had moved on to other things by that point.

Finally took it out today to make some video. As expected from an F10 chassis and big power, it was virtually undrivable. Very similar to trying to drive a brushless Grasshopper on tarmac but more top heavy. Absolutely wrestled with the thing to keep it upright! Good for a laugh but not very practical. Would probably be good for the beach, which is also the only place my grasshopper really works well when you put a brushless in it.

I wonder how much of an improvement would be made converting it to 4 link like I did with the lunchbox...hmmmm

It's no four link, but I printed some axle holders to allow a small amount of articulation in the rear, essentially turning it from grasshopper to hornet style suspension.

Happy to send you some.

It's no crawler, but does help the constant hopping on gravel.

I use a proline body to take the weight down.

It's a cool truck.

I was at the race track and had my TT02SR and XM01 Pro with me. Both cars are a lot of fun, but I am still most impressed with the XM01 Pro. I still think it's an incredibly good vehicle, just like its brother XV02 Pro. It runs surprisingly quietly, despite the cardan drive. It was a nice trip including first signs of autumn.

Did some more to the rust bucket, rusted out the rims, soldered up some headlights, printed and fitted a panhard bar.

The panhard bar really did a lot to the super sloppy front end, now it can get full steering throw in both directions as the axle no longer is pushed laterally and the panhard bar is in the same direction as the steering linkage there is very little bump steer :)

I had some fun with a quick legacy duo photo session to help motivate the next multi hour stint I will do to finish the lexan shell. I dremelled the lamp buckets and painted yet another layer of clear paint onto the lamp areas.

I’m in love with the finish / colour of these wheels I might try to replicate the finish on a few wheels. I used an Ammo MIG yellow primer on these with TS Gold. Rc legends tecnomagniso wheels.
