I finally got around to doing the GT3C firmware hack, I had been dragging my feet for years on this. What it's showing at the moment is it's on model #62. It can now save up to 62 cars. I have two more to flash.

Part of the push to finish this project is I have decided to take any RTR style RX/TX or other inexpensive 2.4g setup out of my fleet and donate them to the local hobby shop. So far, they will be getting 10 combos. They use them a lot during the holiday season.

Aw man!  I didn't know you could hack these and save more models.  I just kept buying more GT3C radios:wacko:.  Got 3 now, and all are full.  Was going to head on up to a Noble Pro thingy next..  Still will, but now I can experiment and do this hack and see what happens.  Thanks!

I was looking into getting the Noble myself. The biggest downfall for me is it doesn't use the GR3E receivers that the GT3C uses. It would require replacing all of the receivers, and they are a bit more expensive.

YouTube has a few decent tutorials on doing the hack. Just be sure to pay attention to the pinout of the programmer you have versus the one in the videos or forum tutorials.

I met up with another member of our RC club to make the most of the October sun. I had the XV01, XV02 and my good old DT02 with me. We used a wasteland as a rally course and had a lot of fun.

Because of the vertical mounting, my XV01 didn't catch any stones on the servo, but instead caught them somewhere else. 🙄

I should probably drive my XV02 with the dust cover again. 😁

And my DT02 ran on this rather rough terrain as usual without any problems. 🙂

I spent some time cleaning up Socky (CR-01) and put the Bighorns back on again. While I was cleaning the floor from all the dried grass and debris, I contemplated switching to carpet racing. Then I came to my senses again.

Why not to try carpet racing? That way, you get to clean bits of carpet fuzz and tyre debris off the floor instead! 😁

the screws holding the rear arm braces were getting a little loose, so I decided to replace them with Frog braces and convert the coarse threaded screws with longer fine threaded ones, and put nuts on the back side.

I also have fine threaded screws on the braces on one of my frogs, flange nuts on the other side make it easy.

Mounted the electronics on the Fighting Buggy. Build is almost done, just have to install the lights. Mounting those rear tires was torture!

I took out both cr12 derived vehicles out together for some last autumn sun.

The bigfoot monster truck drove really nicely. Very smooth with the brushless motor. I run on 70 percent power to keep speeds manageable and save the drive train.

The suspension too soft, so will explore my stash for thicker springs.

The Pumpkin Cralwer was great. Very quiet drive train and smooth power with great steering angle. It had decent speed on high setting but lots of fun clambering up rocks. It's got open diffs front and back so might change that for better crawling, but the tiny turning circle is perfect for indoor use, so not quite sure.

Vaguely RC-related because it looks a bit like a pink Blackfoot...

Finally mounted a laser-cut basic chassis under this body, painted together with my 6 yrs old. "Dad I like your Blackfoot" she said several times :)

Finally got to a Tamiya Junkies meet and ran all these

20241019_095328

They all ran great, and very little needed in the way of tinkering or breakage. Rain stopped play on the big outdoor track, but ran indoors all day. Was fun. Great events. Make one if you can. It's a group on FB, or we post dates in the Meetings and Events sub-forum.

Just made my 1st Jadlam purchases, just a couple of small items, for my XV-01 and Grasshopper builds.

Trying to keep my RC spending in-check and just purchase items for the  2 current projects 😂

Nice! I can see that you installed a ball diff as well. Did you choose to go with the high speed or low speed gearing? I went with the low speed with mine since the pinion is steel and the high speed one is the soft Tamiya.

I also spent a lot of time bleeding the air out of the rear shock and reservoir line but the next day there were some bubbles again

spacer.png

I’ve gone with high speed gearing, and also fitted a 15 turn (still basic) brushed motor. I don’t like slow RCs! I’ve ordered a metal pinion as I don’t like the aluminium ones tamiya provide either.

Today I had several hours of uninterrupted playtime, so got in a few ERBP attempts with my TC-01 and Group C endurance racers, then did a couple of RBP runs with my M-07, and finished off the batteries with a bit of aimless driving around with my DT-03. It was nice to have a good long session with time to find my rhythm with the different cars and tracks.

It is more of what have a done this week, done a lot of rc stuff, took the BBX for the second time to the beach, the first time a driveshaft popped out after a few minutes, placed 2 O rings under the shock shafts and changed the spacer to the other side of the driveshafts, this time I ran 3 and half battery packs through it, but in the end the driveshaft popped out again, so for now I put 3 O rings under the shock shaft, and put al of the spacers on the Other side of the driveshaft thats al I can do, I hope that solves the problem.

Painted an audi V8 body for my Ta-03.

Run the bonkers lunchbox on the beach with an castle 5700 kv motor in it.

Run my M-05 with a 14 turns brushed motor instead of the 4000kv brushless motor,  it is much better now, it is  more driveable and less wheelspin.

Then I wanted to put a center diff in my kyosho mad wagon, this car has a slipper clutch but I am not happy with it, when I bought it second hand It was almost brand new but had slipper clutch issues, it slips way to much, so I ordered new slipper pads and parts and build them in, run 4 battery packs trough the car but the slipper still slips to much even with the clutch at full lock,  a lot of alloy particles are in they chassis of the car, so I ordered al of the parts for a center diff, the kyosho tacoma has a center diff and it is from the same kb10 platform , so I thought it wil fit, yes the diff fit, but me being stuped not realized that the slipper chutch is larger and the center driveshaft are another size, so after some measuring, found some HPI driveshaft that fit on 1 side and on the other side the Kyosho tacoma driveshaft, the HPI driveshaft fits like a glove, and the tacoma driveshaft is on his way from japan, I hope it wil fit.

And I bought a cc-02  toyota yesterday for a good price.

Did a bit more on my fighting buggy I decided to try someone else’s reproduction decal other than mci for a change so I ordered some from RC decals because I only wanted the rear decals and the sponsorship decals the stripes are still the kit decals and to be fair they are ok very well printed and go on very good :) if I have one criticism it would be they are very slightly thicker than the kit ones but unnoticeable because they are very well printed and on a flat surface so I don’t know if they would work well on corner surfaces etc but other than that I’m very pleased with them:)
you forget how enjoyable these SRB’s are to build properly old skool with things you have to glue!!:D

Got the Hotshot 1.5 out for its first run today. I love the rugged heft of these. A nice perk of the boxed chassis means I'm not shaking mulch out of it the next day like a tub chassis buggy. For some reason, the first pic reminds me of the original Hotshot Jr boxart.

@Saito2. That's a seriously good looking Hotshot 1,5. The first pic look like thenone that was in the Leker &hobby Christmas catalog 1985 sans the golden wheels.

You have got rid of the quirky suspension, but it still looks the business. The HS 2 is not that prone to bend it's front shock pistol rod as the original I suppose?

Thank you. I wanted more livable performance while not ruining the iconic look of the original too much.

Correct. After the flawed geometry of the original Hotshot, following buggies in the series added extensions that compressed the shock properly from either end rather than from below it. With the shock no longer attempting to bend as well compress, the action is much more linear and predictable.

Tell me about it, it's kind of ironic how most modern RCs use tub chassis even though they're magnets for dirt and crud. But hey, now they can sell you a chassis cover!

On my end, I drove the Stampede after a long wait. Unlike my LCG Slash the entire chassis doesn't get coated with junk after a bit of running in the dirt.

Was digging through my stack of unused decals to see if I find anything interesting or useful, came across a mini 4wd catalog from 99 and a Marui parts spare list from my first RC. So I’m thinking I may have never looked through these before and probably don’t need to hold on to all these stickers .

IMG_3007.jpeg.adad11c3e57d99fdbed056b6037adc88.jpeg

I did find the leftovers from when I got the Big Bear from my dad and made it my own (first RC), the original body was a bit destroyed and then got ran over a bit finishing it off with my SBF that replaced it, but since we now have the internet I can repair all the broken bits and get another body to paint it the same way I had it as a kid :D. And now that I found the leftovers I can see the new ones I ordered from MCI are a little too big, so I guess they’re getting more of my money

Also managed to get my XV01 from parts car done and wired up, hoping to find the time to run it in the local rally class, if anyone still races rally cars around here.
