Took all of the vintage BW SS tyres off the Parma chromes and replaced the with ReRe tyres now its finally on display. The original tyre spent a few years in a basement that became damp. They're now feeling very dry and brittle so bagging them up and storing them away until I can figure out what to do with them.

I’ve just been through this process with a full set of Rough Rider tyres.

Liberally coated them in silicone lube, then put away in a sealed food bag for a month. 

When I took the tyres out of the bag I wiped the excess lube off, and left them to air dry. 

Came out really well, still old obviously but softer and nicer looking old

I went ahead and got a Tamiya Sport tuned 370 to see how it goes. I expect some mods to make it fit. 

My Holiday buggy has the 380 I wonder if that would work.  I guess I'll pull the 280 from the Mini JRX2 and see how well the match up....Most importantly the shaft and mounting holes.

370 is completely different to the 380, which is much larger. The 370 typically has 2mm shafts.

Usually 370 motors have a single mounting hole where you might expect one in a 280, and two holes a little further out.

Usually you can slot them in, or you may need to drill a tiny hole in the JRX2 mounting plate. 

Whereas 280 typically use nubs, 370 motors use screws to mount.

Most of my Taiyo cars and QDs run 370 motors in space of the 280!

Sounds like a fun project to work on.  I just wanted to try this before I fold and get a pre packaged brushless system.  I just like the looks of brushed and hope the Tamiya sport tuned hooks up with the stock Mini JrX2 ESC 2n1.

As expected using up some of the last tins of Dupli-Colour in Australia that I found on clearance at an auto store. The Silver was fine but the light blue didn’t want to play nice from half way through the tin, looks like it could have been Hammerite from close up. Not a great concern as it’s going to be a runner. Still wanting to add a bit of fun to it I’ve always wanted to try some kind of chequered effect, and with some ‘53’s’ left over from the Giulia body, well, they where hardly going to get used on anything else where they…

Just a bit of cleaning up to do here and there. Pretty happy with it for a cheap & cheerful with being to Herbied.

Thank you! I wasn't sold on the purple stripes at first, but the lighting in my work area is really bad, and it actually looks good outside in the natural light. Your Ultra G black edition is looking great as well... the orange wheels really bring out the decals, and I love seeing the fat independent suspension out back, like it should have been in the first place!

Thank you, but I can't take all the credit, my wife is the one who came up with the color scheme. I just did the masking (a LOT of masking) and spraying, although she did let me get creative with it. So I just tried to highlight some of the natural lines of the car, noticing that it's shaped a bit like a fighter jet, and taking cues from F-Zero X, as well as some other Tamiya buggies like the Madcap (reverse-angled roll hoop/B pillar) and Terra Scorcher (graphics/decals helped me visualize how to make my stripes).

I race the Losi Mini B and found a very quick brushed motor.  On an indoor carpet track, I can keep up with other Mini B's equipped with  brushless setups.  The downside, is that after a few 5 minute races, need to let it cool off.    https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0828KZ353?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

The tyres (and wheels) @Mouc-RC are Kyosho 2.2 Turbo Scorpion rears all round.

Tyre part No. is  FAT202SB I think Proline do an almost identical tyre as well. They’ve been great on the TS so should be good on this too. Sorry I don’t know if they would fit a WR-02/GF-01 as don’t have any to try.

Had quite a productive weekend: Got one commission finished off, a King Blackfoot resto for a mate. I've done a few builds for him but this one was different, as the rest were "bucket list"/dream builds, whereas this one was one he and his lad blasted around, so it had some history and battle scars that needed to be retained.

Not the tidiest, but not the worst either. 10 points to you if you clocked the rear bumper being in the wrong place.

The chassis had survived pretty well, although it had definitely had at least one major disagreement with something heavy and hard, as the steering arms looked like bananas and the front bulkhead parts crumbled in my hands as I took it apart.  Other than that though, just a few screws to be replaced and new bearings throughout (still had the plastic ones, so they got upgraded) and it was all done. Oh, and a very good clean!

Body got some of the bigger damage repaired (new mounts made for the rear bumper, cracks sealed up, rain gutters replaced) but all the little nicks I thought should be kept. I couldn't find a roll bar anywhere to replace the missing spotlight, so I got a Blackfoot set of spots and fettled them to fit, and was then treated to a coat of chrome paint (which didn't come out chrome despite my best efforts) along with the bumpers. Body got a repaint and new MCI-Racing stickers.

One other project I got finished off (well I thought it was finished....) was my Lunchbox. If you have a very good and otherwise unoccupied memory, you may recall I started my 1-man crusade to put a M06 gearbox in everything with this:

Well, I really couldn't decide what to do with the body. I thought 70's disco, but couldn't really see it on a monster truck, nearly went He-Man and Skeletor, then back to standard lunchbox but maybe in a different colour - then I was watching an episode of Vice Grip and saw a truck with a paint scheme I just loved. Some months later I finally got around to painting the base coats, and then a month or so later again I got the rest of it painted. In the meantime I designed some non-Rollin' Thunder-esque bumpers and grill and printed them. The grill needs a tweak to the upper edge, but otherwise it went in quite well. Once again I failed to get a chrome finish with the paint (ARGH!!!!) but I think it looks ok overall. This will be a bit of a basher anyway, so I'm not going to be precious about it. Figured I need to have at least one runner!  But maybe the universe thought not..... I was just giving it a clean over as it had picked up loads of paint dust from being in the garage all this time and I noticed that one of the rear tyres had a split in it!!!

I have found out that 280/370 motors don't really advertise any specs such as Turns, RPM and such and limited selection(From what I have seen) All I have found out about my Tamiya 370 Sport tune, is that it has a 22.000 RPM max. The 4800KV surpass Hobby option spins 34,000 on 2s....They have been getting 26MPH out of that in the JRX2 Mini, so the Tamiya brushed will probably come in at 20, 21 MPH, slightly faster than the stock 15MPH 280 42T motor.

I may get the 19tooth pinion option combined with the Tamiya sport tuned 370 and call it a day.  The 19 tooth over the 17 should get more top end plus with the larger 370 can it should have the torque to handle the 19 tooth pinion without being sluggish and heating things up.

Well....Experiment time.

Today my restomodded Thunder Shot received a bit of attention and some new parts. 

 

First up was a TT-02 alloy propshaft and Hotshot drive cups:

I had a sintered steel propshaft from Shapeways in there before, but I will be building a Saint Dragon soon, and I think that the steel propshaft will fit that build better as it will be closer to stock. The blue alloy one is a better match for the flashier Thunder Shot. 

I also finally got around to fitting the new front bumper:

The initial restomod took place before all the re-res came out on this chassis, and replacement front bumpers were hard to come by back then, so I used the shabby original one. When front bumpers became cheap and plentiful again, I bought a new one, but that was a while ago. It had been sitting on the shelf for ages.  

I also decided to put some M2 nylock nuts on the ends of the sway bar.

I did away with the stock rubber tubes during the initial restomod, using ball connectors held in place with grub screws instead, but they left a bit of threaded rod sticking out. It didn't do any harm, but didn't look great either. I think the nuts finish it off nicely. 

All done, better than new, apart from the tyres which are veterans of several rounds of RBP:

I have new ones waiting to go on, but these worn ones still grip well on tarmac, so I'd might as well get as much use out of them as I can.

My original plans for yesterday were to get reacquainted with some good old Racing by Post, but during the setup process I realized my mind wasn't really there (too many thoughts going on), so decided to switch to some relaxed free running instead.

Another foliage run with the Optima Mid followed, the buggy performed flawlessly as usual.

I gave the DT-02 a clean, shaking out the Mediterrean sands... Boy, was that poor little car dirty! I used the opportunity to swap the 17t pinion to a 19t.
