Today I made a part:

Can anyone guess what it is for?

It's easy - it's for opening the special brew hopup beer cans.

I ordered a bunch of stuff for an upcoming TT02 rebuild and decided to throw a set of drift wheels in just to mess around with. Well today I took them out to mess around. I discovered that I suck at drifting and it's harder than it looks.

Stiffen your rear diff if you built it stock, I stuck a tiny bit of foam in one of my TT02s and that made it drift much better, easy to remove too if you don't like the results.

An educated guess, rear spoiler upright reinforcement?

Started disassembling and cleaning the 1988 Avante I recently bought:

I have a long way to go but this will make for a nice winter project.

last night I finally got around to finishing off my M-03RRR.

A wonderful fellow TC'r in Germany shipped me a new Mini body, which I hummed and haahed over for ages as to how to paint it. In the end I decided to go super simple. Got a selection of retro style sponsor stickers to give it the "old skool" touring car vibe and then added a few little details such as front and rear light buckets, wipers, door handles and filler cap.

I originally had some carbon filled minilite style wheels but really fancied something a bit different, so printed up some "mamba" style ones, which are ever so slightly wider than standard to get the tyre looking a little fatter.

I might still delete the body posts and holes in the body, but I'm struggling to work out how to get some magnetic mounts to fit.

That looks fantastic. I really wish Tamiya would re-release this body.

Looks great in white! Like the bolt pattern too - sweet detail. Yes, if they only would do a re-release ...

After the way BMW shafted them over the licensing for the classic Mini, I doubt we'll see another BMW or BMW-adjacent model from Tamiya.

What did BMW do?

I can't recall all the details - something along the lines of trying to back-date licensing fees I think. I found the whole thing quite distasteful at the time so I think I blocked it from my memory. The details are no doubt out there online somewhere.

BMW things. Silly if you ask me. Who is more likely to grow up and buy a BMW, a kid who had a RC version of their favorite BMW or one who didn't?

I see. Seems a bit childish.

Looks great, and indeed different. Nice color scheme, and that shading really makes it next level!! Impeccable, congrats👌😎

While running my vintage Big Boss a few weeks ago, I started hearing the dreaded clickity sound of the dogbones finally  wearing off. I was expecting that, after 5 years of consistent use.

I love that truck and want ro keep it in good shape, so I decided to bite the bullet and get the only replacement option I knew of: a printed version off fleabay, with shipping costs (from the neighbouring US, around the corner) exceeding the item itself 🤬🙄

I got them last weekend, and upon inspection they seemed pretty sturdy at least. Installation followed right after.

I appreciate how relatively accessible everything is on this old truck. The removal of a few screws was enough to access the dogbones. While at it, I also reinstalled the old outer drive cups which, after some straightening up, are now in a better shape than the ones I was using.

20241116-204842.jpg

It's always good to take a minute and appreciate the difference: worn dogbone to the left, brand new one to the right.

20241116-181320.jpg

Impressive difference, right? No kidding so many Kyosho purists were turned off by the plastic dogbones back in the day. They do last way longer than one would think, but still, not the brightest idea.

It would be nice to go ahead and sort out some vintage Thorp hop-ups to address this, but it would probably set me back an amount close to what I just spent today at the dentist for a titanium implant (horrible feeling, especially for the wallet, feels like working a helicoil on an RC car but it's your gums and bones instead 😢🤕💸💸🔧🔩)

Anyway back to the Boss. Here it is for  a moment acting like his big brother Double Dare while in the process (mocking rear steering) 20241116-192432.jpg

Once done, I went out for a test drive. Ended up running a few battery packs in both day and nighttime, now all is well and it works perfectly, for being a 35 y-old runner. The drivetrain has never felt this silent (people familiar with this like @Saito2 know what I'm talking about) so I'm happy with this. I'm even tempted to chuck in a faster motor just for a hoot, but I think I'll refrain from that in respect of the old plastics in the rig.

Ferruz: I love seeing these Big Boss running pics. Those old Kyosho trucks got a bad reputation for being fragile, but mine was tough as nails. It had a mod motor and the pogo stick-shocks were replaced with oil units.  I bashed it like most folks do Stampedes nowadays and never broke a part. If only they would rere them with some upgrades.

Today my TL-01 Evoque received a roof rack:

My CC-02 Defender received an exhaust:

And my Group C C11 received some black 9mm spacers and black alloy nylock nuts to finalise the rear wing lift mod:

I think this model looks significantly better with the lifted wing.

Had a really good Wednesday!!! At 10.30 this morning Simon aka @Grumpy pants arrived at my house with a Blitzer Beetle and an XV01 and surprise surprise I had the same two cars also ready and charged for a bit of bashing. So after so RC chit chat we headed to my local tennis courts. Now these aren’t the smoothest of courts in fact it’s like driving on mini marbles! So first of was the Blitzers. Simons is running a 7.6v NiMh, and a dirt tuned motor and mine 7.4v Lipo and a sport tuned motor. A lot of fun was had hooning around including a standing start which ended up almost a dead heat. All was going well until I lost concentration and ploughed straight into the front of Simons car. Fortunately for him apart from a dislodged driver he suffered very little. My much repaired/remodelled front end did not come off so well. Suffice to say it is currently undergoing some intensive surgery 😢 So then on to the XV01’s. Simons Torque tuned (?) and NiMh and mine 13.5t sensored brushless and 7.4v lipo. This led to quite a difference in speed though I think Simons was easier to control. His has rally blocks and mine Chevy trophy truck tyres. We both survived that session unscathed. In both cases the NiMh powered cars ran out whereas the lipo ones were still full of beans!!! I then brought out my newly converted to brushless Mojave Grom. What a hoot. Had the gyro on to start with but turned it off and it was a mini rocket. After that we retreated to a local watering hole for a quick libation before returning to my place for a bowl of warming soup. After lunch we took the SCX10iii and the TRX4 out in to the woods for a trail run. ( a new experience for Simon with this kind of rig) As it was getting dark we called it a day, and Simon left to brave the rigours of the M25. Hopefully he he got home safely. I started the unnecessary rebuild of my TT02R. When I built it I used the kit supplied self tappers but recently I decided it would simply look cooler with machine screws all around. So I ordered a new chassis and other parts I would need, a form tap and some machine screws in preps for some mechanical meditation. I spent about an hour tapping all the holes in the chassis, built new diffs in order to machine screw them also. One of the diffs uses diff putty, the other AW grease which is a slight deviation from its current AW grease in both. Anyway, I am in the midst of a partial new build and a partial transfer of parts which so far has been more enjoyable than I predicted. After the tapping was done, the putting together was super pleasant. I love using my MIP tools and now I get to! Pics are of the first two screws. Nothing exciting to anyone but me but rest assured, I am excited.

An awesome day, really good fun and thank you for hosting and sharing Jeremy.

Got back just in time to unload the car and get to the pub for round 2 @ 7pm 😂

I’m already looking forward to our next outing 😊

@Ferruz, That dogbone pic brought back a flood of memories. I can't say for certain but it looks just like the one that was in the Icarus. Man I loved that car.

I'm pretty sure they are indeed the same dogbones. They used to be equipped on a bunch of other mid range Kyosho models, beside the car crusher series.

Edit: wow, we just got to page 2000 of this thread! 🎉
