@RushRebel, @Ferruz, I admit I was dubious when I dug into my first Car Crusher, but mine have been running pretty strong for some time now. Kyosho's redesigned knuckles which added more meat around the ballstud hole somewhere around the Double Dare intro seems to have fixed the earlier knuckle breakage issues.

I'm pretty sure they are indeed the same dogbones. They used to be equipped on a bunch of other mid range Kyosho models, beside the car crusher series.

Edit: wow, we just got to page 2000 of this thread! 🎉

And who better to take the honours Mr @Ferruz 🫡

A flying shot of the world famous Hornet would have been the cherry on cake though, just saying 😉

(Hope the dentistry isn’t giving you to much grief now)

Let's all meet up in page 2000!

Not much RC action for a while, but I ordered an FTX XP Evo pro as a mini crawler for the house as it was in sale. It's for my birthday

Main draw was tiny wheelbase (158 mm) and two speed gearbox.

Going to be for a small Taiyo Jeep conversion.

One cool thing about the Scorcher rears is that they fit nicely (not perfectly but nicely) 1.55 rims from Tamiya M-chassis, or these ones... ...For trucks :) : https://www.modellbau-seidel.de/index.php?firma=Tamiya&best=54741

Hence you easily have a standard 12mm female hex drive.

Hi,

I've ordered some sand paddles and truck rims recently. And after some "dry fitting" I must say that they don't fit the portals (hex is sitting too deep in the wheels). I would have to get a lot longer hex drivers and then I won't be able to fit a wheel nut or I have to find suitable wheels with more offset. Sometimes it's a bit annoying, when you have to order parts all day long, because what you already got does not work.

Today I swapped an LRP V10 17t motor into my Manta Ray.

20241121_103047

It used to have a TZ in it, but I think the lighter blue of the LRP's endbell fins ties in better with the Tamiya blue bits elsewhere on the model, while the darker blue of the TZ's endbell fins will tie in better with the darker blue of the suspension parts on the Saint Dragon I'll be building soon.

The Manta Ray was no slouch with the TZ, but now it proper shifts! 😁

Hey this is interesting. So a LRP 17T is much puncher than a Superstock (I assume all the Superstocks are much of a muchness?)? Same pinion? Does it kick off more or less heat would you say?

Got the body painted and wheels painted/glued for my M06 GTA build.  Have some magnetic body mounts on the way so hope to have this finished up in the next few days.

I didn't do any timed runs, but I'd say acceleration feels comparable on the same pinion. However it keeps accelerating for longer and tops out at a higher speed. Heat output feels a little higher but still touchable after a run. Battery life is probably also reduced, but I am running 4000mAh LiPos and my fingers got too cold before the battery ran out, so there is plenty of runtime.

Superstock motors are "only" 23 turns though right?

Quite right. They are very well-made 23t motors that tend to punch above their weight, but at the end of the day 23t is 23t. The LRP V10 is also very well-made, but the 17t armature gives it extra oomph albeit at a higher RPM.

Usually when going down by so many turns, I would also go down a tooth or two on the pinion, but in this case I already had it geared quite conservatively with an 18t pinion, so I think it will be fine as-is. (Stock is 21t.) It is easy enough to pop on a different one if further testing in hotter weather proves me wrong.

Sorry to read this... I feel guilty now :/

I hope you'll find a nice way to use them in a future project!

Won't it be strange when we're all fully grown?

I don't think that's going to happen

We all still play with toy cars!

Well, I bought so many things that are waiting for their potential use ... 😄 ... one or two more things doesn't make such a difference. 👍🏼

Today was a Tamiya TS spray paint disaster. I was going to paint the end plates of the wing on the Jaguar. The original owner of that wing didn't bother and naturally it yellowed over time.

I have used TS a few times before but mainly to paint RC wheels. Every time I used TS, I got a phenomenal look after 4 very light coats. It was almost too easy.

So today I started by sanding the end plates smoothly to expose nice white plastic. Then since I don't have white primer "in stock" I went directly to spraying with TS pure white. Temperature was 19deg, the coldest I have ever tried. I got massive orange peel on the very first pass 😐

Back to the sink for a wet sand again. Another spray attempt, this time at 21deg yielded huge runs. Now I'll let the end plates dry a few days, maybe I can sand and polish them smooth, who knows?

This led me to a quick YouTube search of "TS paint technique" and I found a few interesting ones. So I don't know what I am doing basically. It seems like orange peel is quite normal and should simply be sanded, then a clear coat applied, then sand, polish etc until it's all glossy and flawless... Well I learned something today. I'm not too upset, I will try to take this as far as I need to until the end plates are white and glossy like the rest of the body.

I finished my TT02R roller rebuild. It's kinds weird to see some lightly weather parts on a brand new chassis with brand new suspension arms but I guess the 1:1 racing teams do it so I can too. All that's left is to throw the electronics back it but I am thinking about ordering a new servo. The Protec 140 is a little twitchy for my old man reflexes. I am also considering going to a standard over the shorty. I have a HiTec 645 in my GF and I am half thinking that would work well in the TT02 that doesn't race. Getting rid of all the Philips screws took me back to the world of C-Clips....but I like it.
