Bought a vintage, huge, Kyosho Nexus 30, nitro helicopter. Came with a vintage radio and electronics, state of the art 27 years ago

This one has never been flown, never a drop of gas put in, got a hella deal on it. Will need a cleaning, and going through, electrics update, but wow she is beautiful.

Can't wait to get this classic airworthy.

I was nearly finished with my Super Manta Re-Ray tribute build, when I discovered a bad sheet of stickers (MCI). The orange actually started flaking off :(.  I'm sure it'll be made right in the end, so for now here's how it sits. Oh, the black wheels are from the Neo Top Force for a test view as I am currently in the process of painting the re-re set white. I actually think the black wheels look great on this, and white wheels look great on the Neo TF. Go figure!

Being cheap and in need of some RC10 wheels for my current bench project, I dug into a pile of old parts. What surfaced was two chromed rear wheels with worn-out tires glued to them and two matching front wheels painted black (poorly). I stripped the chrome with oven cleaner and the paint with brake fluid. An hour in a boiling pot of water softened the glue enough to remove the tires. Now I have some wheels ready to go and saved about $30 (granted it took a couple hours, lol).

In the hobby it's always the question: Do you have more money or more time? If you have to save budget, you have to invest time. And vice versa. Blessed is the one who has both ... money and time!

My Alfa Romeo GTAm (XV02) got white stripes today so that I can see it better when driving. Not particularly pretty, but functional. The stripes are made of Oracal foil, so I can take them off if I don't like them anymore.

During the last few days of staycation, I spent most of my time in qualitybuild land. Many here before me have had the pleasure of building a Turbo Optima, so no point in making a build thread, and nothing much to declare so far besides happiness all around. I feel privileged, being able to build a kit of such specs! The gold parts are ridiculously gorgeous

Below is the first step, the diffs. You can tell by the photo that I put too much silicone fluid in the front diff, in fact I had to re-open it to bleed it out a bit. Fortunately I was able not to damage the gasket in the process, so there was no need to reach out for a spare one.

Oh, and I found this very useful hex screwdriver kit under the Christmas three. 20241226-144104.jpg

Makes for a much more enjoyable build, no doubt. And the fact that it matches the car's color scheme, while being a mere coincidence, is just icing on the cake.

While opening the bags, a couple of bearings came out like this 20241226-145200.jpg

which made me wonder all of a sudden: would a bearing-inside-bearing setup enhance performance in any way? Or just enhance side/thrust fragility without any improvement? Is there such thing as overbearing bearings? 🤔🧐 just some odd thoughts while in the happy place 🤪

Couple more photos of the build so far

I couldn't bring myself to just screw the serrated washers into the gold anodizing, so I took some extra time to "pad" them out with something thin, in order to soften their bite a little. That was achieved by sticking them on some leftover transparent decal sheet, and then carefully trimming it all around, hole included. The washer in the photo is treated as such, even though it's not very noticeable

Here is the build as it stands now. I feel as Kyosho really outdid themselves with this kit.

Well, I went and got my *** kicked at our weekly off road race with 80+ entries and my head was elsewhere.......

Came home, took a shower to wash the "I suck" off me and finished the Hornet EVO wing etc.

@yogi-bear that body looks great, what paint did you use as I thought these didn’t like paint as they are not ABS/Styrene?

I just discovered what you mean. I didn't realise or see in the manual not to paint the body, I can see it now though! I started to mask the back area up to paint the rear louvred window in black and the masking tape pulled the paint clean off. That is very annoying, at least it looking like it's going to be very easy to remove the paint. And I am wondering why Tamiya made the body like this. I don't like the look of it unpainted, so I might do a vinyl wrap instead.

Yes it’s really weird that this came with a body made of whatever it is, It reminds me of a coloured 9L plastic bucket material. Be interested to see it wrapped, thats a good idea

Pixel 6a with Android and PC with Windows and Firefox, from Germany ... only blue rectangles with "image not found or was removed"

That's why I prefer model website owned image hosting or my own webspace.

On the way to the New Year's Eve get-together at my sister's. Took Paranoid Perry with us, he has the best seat in the car. 🙂

It's unseasonably warm here in the NE USA, so I quickly got paint on these new arrivals while I could, and then got out the goodies I've been saving for the fAuxstute:
