stripped my unloved axial wraith.

I used it last summer on the beach, where it got a bit wet.

The whole drive train was rusted solid.

Have rebuilt both axles using brass bushings and rebuilt the gearbox with new bearings.

Both prop shafts are soaking in release oil to free them off

I intend to use it on the beach again this year

How about stuffing the axles and gearbox with nautical grease and put a greasenipple on them.

That should keep the water out next time.

modified the XB Farmking that arrived yesterday.

bearings and some other optical bits.

Looking good! I think it looks far better with a wing on the back compared to the stock rotovator thing.

I've dumped some Thunder/Stadium/Blitzer wheels in brake fluid this morning.

I'm on the final leg of fitting the parts I've bought for my Blazing Blazer.

I've put up a wanted add for the last small pieces I'm missing for it as well.

I've put my Blitzer Beetle up for sale properly now.

I am on a roll!

Found a small bag of parts that I thought I had lost for good. Now my drifter can finally have wing mirrors and number plates!

Started rebuild of a Terra Scorcher. All gears were spotless and perfect after cleaning so they've gone back together inside new gear casings. New chassis tub and b parts already to hand so the steering will get built and installed next. Waiting on the blue suspension arms so this one might take a few weeks to come back together.

Do you know what kind of paint was used on the wheels?

The previous owner of my Super Sabre painted the wheels dark blue. It looked like a thick paint too. I thought I'd experiment, so I put the wheels in a tub of Caustic Soda solution. The paint just fell away within 24 hours and no harm came to the plastic.

Waiting for my friend to come over so we can go for a bash. I think he's leaving it a bit late, and our favourite spot will be taken by people playing cricket. Waste of a good patch of grass!

In the meantime, I've been busy, charging LiPos and NiMHs, fitted a new ESC to the Neo Fighter, sorted out an issue whereby I wasn't reaching full throttle. My mistake: I didn't set ATL to 100%, whatever ATL is. Fitted the Neo with stardish wheels, kept the rear tires, but put rib spike up front. The ribs it came with are, of course, useless on grass.

Did a little more work on the Madcap. Tightened the bolts on the rear wishbone carriers and added some threadlock to them. Opened up the diff hatch, cleaned up the outside of the diff, diff bearings and inside of diff chamber. Added a little ceramic grease as things seemed a little dry.

Noticed the diff hatch has a couple of splits at the fixing points, so pulled a better one off of another car. I wonder how long I have till I need to buy new gearbox parts at a whopping £30.00 a pop. Please, Tamiya, rerelease the Madcap or Astute. Make the parts common and affordable again.

Now, where is my friend?

Sorting through my R/C parts etc and seeing what is no longer needed. Also contemplating selling my Madcap ? Do I or Don't I?

Washed the car and gave her a top up of wax this morning. Took my FTX Vantage out for a blast round a local carpark with my 1 month old son. Left loads of huge black lines everywhere as the power is just silly :D

Now chilling with a few beers watching the BTCC live and later watch the F1 live. :)

Then this evening I will finish of my TA03F-S that I started yesterday

I had a relaxed afternoon with my Lancia 037 project and have rebuilt the Chassie. The Chassie I had bought on Ebay, but it was assembled a bit sloppy.

It was a hot summer day in Nuremberg, 36 degrees in the shade on my back porch. But with a cool beer from Munich, it was very pleasant. :)

Sorry buddy, I've no idea on the paint type, definitely brushed on.

It does seem to have come off quite easily overnight, I should be able to clean them up tonight and I'll keep them in my spares box.

I basically filled a old Lurpak tub with brake fluid, I then left them overnight and turned them over this morning.

The rear diff screws had come undone... I was surprised...

Found the screws at the bottom of the housing bent and chewed

Spares and some loctite have hopefully sorted it

Went for a bash with my mate. He took his Hornet, I took my Neo Fighter and Madcap.

Today was the first test drive of the new Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC. It worked very well. I'm not sure what else to say about that.

Despite charging 9 batteries today (6 LiPo, 3 NiMH), I used only two. They lasted ages in the Neo. I let my mate use the NiMHs in his Hornet. They put his old Nicads to shame. I was hoping he had fitted his new ESC by now, but he was still running mechanical. As a result, the batteries didn't last too long, but the extra speed was very noticeable.

We put out plates to drive around. It makes things more interesting than just whizzing about aimlessly.

After spending an eternity driving the Neo, I changed to the Madcap. Within a minute, I had somehow rolled it and snapped one of the rear wishbone carriers. Not only that, but it looks like it's actually pulled the screw through the chassis. I don't mind breaking the carrier, but the chassis? I'm Gutted. I'm hoping it can be salvaged. I know it's only a small thing, and not exactly a break, but if I can't hold a wishbone on, I can't use the chassis. And I don't want to pay way over the odds for the only new one on Ebay, right now. I have a donor car, if the worst happens, but wish it didn't happen. The joys and perils of running vintage.

Well my Blitzer has been sold subject to payment being received. It's all packed and ready to go.

I bought this today and I'm surprised that I was the only bidder...have I bought a dodo?

Doesn't look dodo-ish to me. It looks like a stock CC01 Pajero MTW in need of a few finishing details and a couple of basic hop-ups. Should make for a nice trail companion when it is done.

Made a start on the rock socker today... all good so far, this is the first 3 steps.

Plastic quality seems better than what I'm used to, normal for some of the more expensive kits?

Never thought I'd say this about a CR01 but that rock socker looks very nice, with a matching price too! Where do they get the names though?

Nothing broke!

However, somehow I managed to lose a travel-limiting shaft on the rear axle (still no clue how it got out). So if anybody has a 3 x 51 mm screw, I would be happy to hear from you!

Still: a lot of fun, and I was actually able to drive it semi-competently once I got more accustomed to its instability. Compared to a Lancia Rally, they really do drive like the real thing: the Audi is a wild ride compared to the more docile Lancia...

Update: I found the screw! 6 hours later, in a big field, against all odds! The only casualty is now a nut, but I am not too cracked up over it.

Thank you XV, I have no doubt that your superb Pajero has played a part in my descisons to buy this one!

I'll be looking for tips on those basic hop-ups in the near future.
