Tamiya CVAs lack the bling factor, but they do work really well. I used them on my club-level race cars to excellent effect.

Built a set of DT-03 CVA's for my Mad Bull build, nice and smooth, impressive for plastic shocks.

If you run them with the Red DT-02 hop up springs they are even nicer :-)

As much as I love building and restoring Tamiya, cutting out lexan bodies scares me! Especially a rare shell that took me ages to find!. Ive been putting this of for a while :unsure:

Do you have a Dremel?

I recently learned that they are the easiest way to cut out a body, using the sanding drum. Do a rough cut first with some curved scissors then smooth it all off with the dremel. It creates a lot of dust but is by far the best result I've ever achieved.

I can see why - that is a very nice shell, and not one that you want to mess up. Good luck with it - hope it comes out okay!

I do have a dremel, I read your post about using it for trimming the wheel arches, what speed do you have it set too?

I use the biggest sanding drum for the wheel arches, I take the bulk of material off at quite high speed, it's easy to maneuver the tool but beware that the debris can be bloomin hot!

Once I'm about 3mm away from the final line I slow the tool down - virtually as slow as it will go - to take it back. Arc movements back and forth ensure a smooth curve. It is nerve-racking and requires good lighting too, as those lines aren't always easy to see on a transparent body.

Sometimes it helps to draw in the cutlines with a sharp marker pen on the outside of the overspray film.

I do this and it makes it WAY easier to cut out the body. You also might consider one of the rechargeable battery Dremel tools. I think they can spin slower than the wall plug variety.

I took my Sand Scorcher to Oxshott Woods and the 'Sand Pits' which are used by R.C Racer, this is where they test out new models.

Great fun, lots of loose stuff, sand, shingle and trees roots to add to the different surfaces.

3 more repairs needed again though, the steering servo is catching on the front suspension tubes, the front wheel stub came off the carrier and the shocks lost most of their oil.

I've got a stub axle and green slime in my spares, so for now it is back in repair bay.....I'm going to take my DT02 next time and hope that is more robust.

Just spent an hour tightening up everything that shook loose on the new lunchbox. I used thread lock this time on all the metal to metal fixings...!!!

I finally get to contribute to this thread! Finished trimming/body holed my latest runner body -Nissan R32- for my ta05. The poorly painted and very old Ferrari 360 shell is beginning to fall apart, time for a change. Haven't decided on a color or wheels yet..

I picked this up today at LHS. I'm not sure how many bushings I have to replace. I think eight on axels but I believe gearboxes already have full bearings. Can any anybody confirm? I know it's an XB but I couldn't resist that flashy paint job. I'm looking forward to running this one. My first DF-02

So prepared the shell, trimmed the wheel arches all ready to dremel away............I just couldn't do it for fear of wrecking the shell. I ended up doing it the old fashion way with a pair of curved lexan scissors, sand paper and some patience :rolleyes: I think it came out pretty well. Masked the windows and nothing else as its all white. Four coats later and sufficient drying time and then the best part, removing the protective layer :D Next decals........and there's a lot!

No hate for the XBs here. I love building my cars but I can totally see the draw to an XB. I've been considering an XB body shell for my Frog. Gonna turn that fragile thing into a shelf queen. Hopefully it doesn't break an axle or drop a dog bone but you can never be sure. :blink:

I think that paint job is pretty sweet myself. Now please excuse me while I go look up the DF-01 chassis. There are far too many chassis ID numbers for this poor dyslexic to keep track of!
