I'm really sorry to hear that Rob, it makes me feel terrible for you, with my own experience being merely the tip of the iceberg. Thank you for the advice, my work partner has the same thing, he also left the op too long and now has very limited calf muscle actuation due to nerve damage although he is still able to get around, he ended up having a 'wallis implant' which has taken most of his pain away, might be worth a read up on it? I don't want to risk any damage to the nerve so if it doesn't resolve between now and my next visit or if things turn for the worse I'll be looking at the op, even though this too carries its own risks.

Thanks again,

Nito

I went to see a back specialist (technically yesterday) who has confirmed post MRI that I have a herniated/ruptured L5/S1 disc which is pressing on my nerve. Been in differing degrees of pain for a year and although that was my self diagnosis you live in hope, but when you see it confirmed on the scan it rams home that I I'm going to need to make some changes to my life. Most of my other hobbies are a no no now. There'll be a few 1:1 toys up for sale :( . To operate, or not to operate? that is the question! Looks like I'll be confined to life as a modeller lol!

Ok first of all take a deep breath and find an awesome acupuncture practitioner, I had surgery on my back 2006/2007. I'm a full time martial arts instructor, life changes but doesn't stop. Pm me if you have questions... Core strengthening excercises a sacral belt to stabilize when your over doing it....

Today I set up the front end of the Fox. I do have a Tamiya stabiliser kit but after fruitless searching I cannot find the 12mm threaded shafts so for now I will leave this off. Unless I'm going nuts they were not in the sealed bag from the kit  . I even crawled around the floor with a torch thinking I had dropped them. Anyway I'm glad she's finally taking shape and not stuck in a stored box anymore.

Hope you have some good results from the core strengthening and any other therapy you can tackle Nito. I have two bulging discs plus other issues but so far I'm getting away with being careful lifting things etc, so no surgery yet as its not as bad. Mine was diagnosed with a ct scan a few months ago after pestering my GP who thought it was muscular.

Thanks Novastar...I'm certainly not alone. I've received lots of wisdom from others on here and via pm, thank you all. It's at least good to get some closure in knowing whether it is muscular or disc related so at least you can target your recovery approach.

Cheers

Finished my Hornet body last night. I tried to utilize as many authentic vintage sponsor decals as I could, including Cibie, Simpson, K&N, and KYB. Used a Champion and Gumout pair also. The only rere decal used was Progear since it looked the least "rere". Painted the screwheads also.

Very happy with the results.

I love the Hornet in Box Art! Looks great as do the screw heads, nice attention to detail.

Thanks fellas! Even my wife, who thinks I'm a dork and doesn't care about my RC stuff, said "That's a nice looking car" :D I agree, the Hornet in boxart colors is very handsome.

Need to go back and put the original steering knuckle shafts/set screw back in instead of the rere part. Just bought the front and rear wheel/tire sets today also :)

This is topical for me too, I'm at the back end of treatment for nerve impingement at C7 ! Acupuncture has been amazing for me, along with a good physio. Good luck with your treatment everyone :)

Just got back from a remote camping holiday. I finished my new built CC01 FJ Cruiser right on time for this and got to put some scratches on it. I'm glad I painted the wheel arches black as they were the first thing to get scratched. These probably look like poser shots but that's because I was having so much fun along the way, I forgot to get the iphone out of my pocket. Pics taken on limestone beach cliffs right on the extreme South West corner (Cape Leeuwin) of Australia.

Went to the mailbox, picked up everything except the repro Burns body I was expecting (21 days and counting)

Got home and promptly dropped the 2200kv brushless motor hard enough to bend one of the fins on it through the packaging

Opened my packages from Shapeways, only to discover that one was completely useless because I'm apparently better at measuring with a tape measure than calipers and the other required extensive dremelling and some of the holes didn't line up for the same reason.

I'm not even going to get into the fact that I cut open my thumb with a razor saw before I decided on the dremel and put naan in the oven to warm it up and nearly burned down the house. I'm just going to write today off.

 With the amount of stupid and fail going on, I'm positive she'd have been knocked into an open flame, or inadvertently mailed to Abu Dhabi somehow if she'd been nearby.

After fruitless searching for the Fox stabiliser kit 12mm shafts I decided it was time for the heavy hardware - bolt cutters ! Some old 26mm screws were sacrificed in the process to make up the required length.

I took two WW apart reassembled one with the better of the two tubs, put the best of my tyres and rims on the assemble model and rather than put the pretty well painted body on it I chose the weathered. And worn one waiting for a tailgate that I ordered and then I shall place the very nice driver IBIFTKH painted for me in it. I'll reassemble the other as I have cleaned th he parts and the decide it's fate, message the above mentioned TC'ERS whose assistance shall decide it's fate. Pictures to follow. Not getting on with This Website Forum Stuff. Need my Tapatalk back.

For set screws have a look at Orbital Fasteners (or other fasteners retailer) you can get an assortment of sizes in stainless steel or self-coloured steel (black) for just pennies! I use them for all sorts, where a turnbuckle maybe won't fit or isn't needed. Job jobbed.

I finished building an M04 yesterday, I'll throw up some pictures later. I honestly think it's a better chassis to build than the M06 which succeeded it, it was a real breath of fresh air to build. It looks rather cool too.

Nothing today, but setup my new variable temp soldering iron yesterday. Took about 10 seconds to get up to 350 degrees, awesome! Just need to find loads of stuff to solder now, nothing is safe!!! Haha

I got these the other day for my tl01b baja champ. They're aluminium shock towers from a hsp. I always hated the small friction shocks on the baja champ. They're 60-65mm all round which for an off road buggy just isn't big enough for me. I really wanted to get some larger shocks and attempted to make some larger shock towers myself out of aluminium but wasn't pleased with the results.

So fast forward to today I fit these as they seemed to have so many holes for shock placement and mounting on the car I thought they should work.

And they did! :) If anyone wants a link to these shock towers so they can fit larger shocks on their tl01b I'll find it and put it on here. Tamiya don't do larger shock towers and there are no after market ones specifically for the tl01b but with a slight bit of tinkering they fit so well. Particularly with the size of shock I chose.

They come in adonised blue, gold, red and standard polished aluminium. They are soo light and the bonus is they cost less than £6 delivered. Think it was £5.80. Nice!

20151206_160622_zps7tfyqlhd.jpg

I forgot to do a shot of the rear with the small standard friction shocks attached but they are the same on the front as the rear. Here's a before shot-

20151205_155800_zpsoylb9tk6.jpg

Front shot of larger aluminium shock tower fitted with some 75mm fastrax oil filled dampers. Just 4 holes drilled and the tower was attached to the previous smaller tower.

20151205_170553_zpshvetyzb4.jpg

This is the rear shock tower fitted with 100mm fastrax oil filled shocks. The rear tower went on even easier than the front. Two of the holes lined up perfectly with the old shock tower then I drilled two more holes so another set of screws could be attached for more strength

20151205_155734_zpskucuncqb.jpg

Just ignore the length of screws used at the top of the mounts and all the spacers used. I haven't got a good stock of different sized screws, nuts and bolts but some are on the way. I just had to attach it somehow to test. I also want to fit a longer screw and spacer at the bottom of the front shocks so that they protrude furthest at the bottom then rake back at the top mounting point. It will look better I think.

20151205_170843_zpsgboseaom.jpg

Rear angled shot of them fitted

20151205_170823_zpsd5efuapd.jpg

And this is them fitted with my basher baja champ body attached which needed a bit of trimming at the front. I apologise for anyone with a tamiya avante and to tamiya themselves for putting the 'being nuts is neat' logo on the rear wing which should only ever be placed on the legendary tamiya avante.

20151205_204148_zps1zpzqtaq.jpg

I'm really pleased with the result. I think they look much better and give it a more purposeful buggy look and it still rides at the same height as before which is what I wanted. The damping is night and day too. Before it used to bounce a few times then settle. Now it absorbs the drop and settles instantly. Much, much better. It transforms the buggies handling.
