Went bashing with the kids this morning. Neither of their WR01's had been used for a while or their nimh batteries, as expected the pita nimh went flat in about 5 minutes. So I decided to put one of their trucks on one of my lipos because I'm fed up of nimh packs ruining our bashes (they aren't used frequently enough) and the other used my WT01. The running WR motors were making a racket and had lots of resistance. I've spent loads of time this afternoon trying to revive these motors which were screeching and squealing on both of theirs as I later found out at home. One now has new motors in, while I try to bring the old motors back. Oil on the bushing stops the squeal but it soon comes back so I'm letting the bushing soak.

Meanwhile my uber reliable WT01 finally had a long deserved breakage...

We've decided to upgrade the kids trucks to lipo compatability. I'll be doing all the charging of them but the benefits are just too great to ignore.

When I built my WR01 recently I fitted motor dust covers as supplied with the BZ / Dirt Tuned motors, not sure if they're available separately? Might reduce the debris that gets in though?

Do you need some silvercans?

Thanks Nobbi, I still have a couple of three new ones left over. I just want to prevent it reoccuring, as Chris says, there's the BZ sponge cover and the vintage Hilux rubber boot, I haven't really looked into it yet to see if they're available for sensible money but they would certainly help.

If they were single motor I'd just go for a mild brushless but being twin motor there isn't a sensibly priced BL esc about, quicrun do the twin motor brushed waterproof esc that is lipo compatible but upgraded brushed motors are too much money especially for a pair.

I'm trying to understand what went wrong with them. I'm guessing it's where they've been run in water or cleaned with the hose pipe and then brought in and maybe the shaft and bushing have corroded a bit where they are put away wet as it were rather than being run to clear any water. I've spent ages letting a few drops of engine oil soak into the bushing and then run for a while, then repeat but after a while it goes back to whining loudly.mdoesn't help that you can't easily open the silver can, or is it as easy as bending back those two tabs?

Cheers

Today I ordered a lightweight aluminium chassis kit for my F350 high lift from RC Mart on Ebay. Massively reduced and couldn't ignore it at £11 posted to the UK. It's anodised gold (Hence the price) but I've got plenty of matt black paint in the garage :)

Sorted a few new arrivals out, dark impact white edition (wife says we havs to play with the new toys before selling them). And a Df03 ra that needs stripped down and reassembled in a much more Protestant manner as my dear old friend in Norn` Iron would say....

update 3hrs have past. I have fashioned a WW wind shield out of styrene

1460983675344_zpsafjtc1dl.jpg, repaired two gaps in the Df03 chassis`s that were cut in the side of the tub so the castle esc could fit...du mass! Sorted through some bits and bobs. I was kinda blown away by the number of sets of wheels I habe accumulated. Stored some shells, the ones I swore I would sell to recoup spending and stashed a bunch of wheels that go with certain vehicles... managed to spray styrene particles all over my work area. And generally had a fantastic night of self indulgence.

Snow yesterday, sun today, so I got some paint onto my blitzer beetle4B215848-9B42-4A51-8E6C-76D5ACF3F224_zps

that's a good gloss on that mate! What did you use?

Charged a lipo I brought last year for the first time and tryed the brushless setup in the stadium blitzer also for the first time since

Last year and gave it a blast round the garden but all I managed to do was rearranged the gravel instead can't wait to get this on some open space. I really like the proline road rage tyres on it also

Remembered that i a year or two ago put some Star dish wheels in break fluid, here is how they look now.

Hopefully the paint will come of now :P

Charging lipos :(

My cheapo on-board lipo alarms were going mental at 3.6v, is that normal? I thought it was "safe" to keep running a lipo until 3 or 3.3v?

My poor 80W charger has it's work cut out getting three 4000mAh lipos up to storage voltage!

Thanks mate,

I used Rust-oleum painters touch, 400ml can cost £4, I used the same brand primer as well

cheers mate! I'm just finding (or not is the case) that I'm trying different makes of paint and gloss they go on great and brilliant gloss then after about a few hours it all goes flat even gloss lacquer finish and I've been told it's because of this good for the environment stuff the paint companies have to adhere to! Don't know if it's correct?

This seemed to go on really well, I have painted my brat body in Matt black so I will see how that turns out in the morning. The Tamiya paint s good but I need a couple of cans of primer, gloss and lacquer for a hard body and its £6 a can. Will see how durable this is when I get to use the car.

Spent most of the day in the garden, making it look presentable (jet wash furniture, patio, plant tubs etc etc) but found some time this evening for a little wet sanding, followed by wet sanding followed by...

Had a pretty busy RC day today.

Both of my kids Dual Hunters had squealing motors, so brought them back to life after cleaning them out with water and detergent

large.image.jpeg.2f02bab546bffb18a257164

I then let the bushing soak in engine oil and continued adding a couple of drops until I was happy with them. Gave the troublesome 4500mah nimh batteries numerous cycles. While that was happening I discovered the wheels on my youngest's car which had bearings on the hubs was binding. Turns out the bearings were corroded and sticking. I guess this is why Tamiya supply with plastic bushes which are relatively fit and forget, I didn't appreciate how without proper maintenance these could get so bad;

large.image.jpeg.6daec9968ae21291cfc0133

So fitted some rubber shielded and then did both the gearboxes, and also carried out the same to my eldest's car...

large.image.jpeg.9bef3154481a7e149fbc3a7

Then tried them all out, a couple of the nimh batts behaved this time after cycling them numerous times on the charger...

large.image.jpeg.851ba5cdbcf50c67d5c38b0

And after that lot, I took out some old vintage Hilux rims I bought on ebay way back for my Bruiser to discover they didn't fit, I thought I'd get them out ahead of the new arrival and give them a quick polish up ( before I split them to give them a proper clean) and took the opportunity to paint the logo on the sidewall...
