I've decided to spring clean my stash of NIP parts, plus a few choice lightly used items - including 3 RTR models...

There are full details in the Trades section of my showroom: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/trades.asp?id=25648

And a summary in the For Sale section of the forum here:

Prices include postage to everyone in the UK, and I can ship Internationally at cost - but do PM me for a quote first of course!

Bad news: Pooched the "Hotshot" hood decal putting on my fog lights. Ordered a new decal sheet :(

Good news: Chris is sending original KC decals and my NIP vintage wheels and tires came today. Rear vintage wheels will hopefully get here on Sunday.

Edit: what's up with the photo size limits? It was nearly 2mb two days ago and now it says 590kb?

Before we got my son his Grasshopper two years ago (almost 3) we would buy 2 of these Syma S107G R/C helicopters.  They have IR transmitters so line of sight is a must.  Since Tamiya came back into my life these little guys have sat idle.  This past weekend one of my sons buddies had his 9th birthday and we gave him a Blade Pico QX mini-drone.  It's pretty impressive for a $27 piece of kit.  So I figure my son will want to fly his heli with his buddy and the drone.  Well, as you might imagine the battery wouldn't hold a charge.  The quandary then became, "Do I replace the 107's battery or buy my kid a drone?"

The battery was only $7 for a 240mAh battery (replacing a 150mAh) so I figured I'd give that a try first.  I mean there's nothing wrong with little 'copter otherwise.  I had to break out my smallest pencil-tip for the soldering iron because these wires are seriously thinner than a strand of my hair!

03.01.2017-19.28.png

2 tiny screws are all that hold the canopy on.  The battery is direct soldered onto the main board.  You can see the new battery on the right, old battery out of frame on the bottom.

03.01.2017-19.29.png

Talk about a tight area to solder!

03.01.2017-19.31.png

Here's the new battery soldered up and resting in it's holder.  A much neater job than factory too I might add!

03.01.2017-19.32.png

I suppose the solder job is passable.  I really needed an even smaller tip that what I have.

03.01.2017-19.33.png

03.01.2017-19.34.png

Ready for take-off!  We're just waiting to see if it'll charge.  So far so good.  It hasn't exploded, caught fire or let the smoke out.

Wish I knew that, I have a number of decals, but I did put that envelope in the post before I read this.

Oh no worries Chris, I screwed up the wing side decal also so I can replace that too ;)

Got the decals from F&M out of New Jersey, they, MRP and Nitro Master are absolutely awesome and quick to ship. Just glad we have some really great sellers here for vintage stuff.

@Effigy3 I fly helis so happy to see some form of a single rotor on here.....People often interchange batteries from stock a lot but w/ helis, just be aware that weight and COG are crucial. For the co-ax helis, the more entry level ones, I suspect that the motor is not too strong....Wait til you get into the CPs... Hope your kid has fun!

finished in the wee hours of the morning....

Finished transferring the mods from my newly bought M01M to my shelf queen M01 once I got it apart I realized there were more mods than expected here's what I scored for my M01

-Aluminum steering rod

-hollow gear shafts

-CVDs

-anti-sway setup

-motor mount

- Super stock Type RR motor (thing has never been run and not sure what it will be going in).

Things I kept on the donor,

-aluminum steering setup (I have a new one on mine so not needed).

-aluminum tie rod mounts and adjustable tie rods (had to mod the chassis to get them to fit, and Im not doing that)

-the aluminum shocks....... the shock bodies are faded which is ok but the plastic cap pieces and bottom pieces are all chewed up, and that I cant deal with. (if anyone knows of where to get replacements or has replacements let me know :) )

-front upper c0hub brace (nice but it wont work with the anti-sway setup so i chose the Tamiya mod instead)

so even the Donor has a nice amount of mods on it, I'll now clean it up and relist it or sell locally....

The one thing I'm not sure of is that chassis protector thing........ I have never seen it before and it is molded specifically for this car so its not a "universal" piece.... anyone ever seen these?

Well Randy, I too have been digging around the net and my garage on an M chassis tear. It sounds like you got a good amount of hop ups for your money. Would love to see detailed photos, but I know what a PITA it is to post here or there.

Onto that chassis protector, where the lexan battery "bar" seems like it could have been handmade, I came across a part number for the chassis protector, it is 53243, I don't know what a GOOGLE search will find, but it is the part number from Tamiya on that bit. Seems they sold the V parts for the Low Friction Dampers, part number for that is 53334, See what that yields you.

Awesome thanks!!! I agree on the battery door piece, but it was that protector tray itself I was curious about and I'll be happy to post some pics of both :)

I bought a couple of motors off an eBay seller a few years back who had engraving like this on all the motors he sold. I just thought he might've been a club racer, or a seller for a team or something, because the motors I bought were the same model but had different timing adjustments. There might've been other setup differences before it was sold to me without pinion or wires so who knows?

Nabbed myself an MFA RX-15 motor from Howes Models for less than £40 delivered, it's apparently the same motor as the Technigold so I'm pretty happy to have gotten this iconic motor for a lot less than the vintage ones on fleecebay. Now all I need to do is get my hands on a repro decal so it looks the part and try not to think too much about just how much money my Bigwig's costing me.

Edited to add: If anyone wants one they better be quick it's only showing one left on Howes Models website.

I don't know if my interests are changing but I'm finding myself taking more of a liking to all the different brushed motors (obviously because the manufacturers don't make so many brushed motors these days it's mainly older ones from eBay etc)  I've acquired quite a few without realising it:rolleyes: I think it could be that they do look a lot better and you can get more involved with the performance of them than the soulless brushless stuff that's coming out at the moment:unsure:!

I'm the same, don't get me wrong I love the power that I get from brushless systems and the whine of the ESC cooling fan just sounds mean and purposeful but brushed motors just seem to have more character. Tweaking the timing for the track conditions, trying to get the perfect brush and spring combo (hard brushes use soft springs and vice versa if I remember correctly), Rebuilding and skimming the comm etc. It's definitely a lot more satisfying to work on a brushed motor it feels almost like a living thing that you have to take good care of and treat just right to get the most out of it.

My sentiments exactly! Nothing better than actually seeing the work you put in a brushed motor like you say tweaking, cleaning, timing etc and really noticing the difference when bashing or racing (bashing in my case these days) it's what it's all about IMO;)

It is like many things that go out of production, especially which are a consumable and have a legacy; it propagates an interest for preservation.

I always think that brushed motors, notably the modified or Tamiya super stocks look so much more interesting than brushless ones. Manufacturers really are leaving brushless motors looking very bland when compared to the modified of old.

You're right.  The heli no longer hovers still hands off the stick.  There is a slight drift forward.  I guess I need to move the battery tail-ward a smidge.

Which reminds in that I REALLY need to organize my spare parts and screws :(

Too much of my life is lurching from one (minor) crisis to another. Time to exert some control over my hobby...

After watching a movie I popped in on Ikea and found something that is to be my new spray booth. It was in the bargain corner, reduced from £25 down to £15, no breaks/cracks/tears as it's just ex-display. It'll be nice to have this to use instead of a large forwarders cardboard box, which is what I've been using thus far.

LOL, I know what you mean. My spares have all been thrown into various old Tamiya boxes and screws mixed up in several different tupperware containers. :/ Just a hodge podge of everything spread all over the place.

Finally got around to refitting the running gear in the Blitzer Beetle and Stadium Thunder after they both got drenched a couple of weeks ago and I had to dry out all the electronics.

IMG_20170303_202544_zps3adu2i29.jpg

Hopefully on the next dry day we can get them back out (though the beetle really needs a little bit of love and some new parts to get it running 100%)
