Finally got the 48.5mm shafts through to replace the screw pins in the back end of the Thunder Dragon. First one went in great.

Non motor side straight in. Fits perfectly.

Motor side, not so much. Inboard wishbone lug is 2mm thicker on the motor side. Some judicious filing required

Some light filing required!

And it fits! No more unscrewing wishbone pivots for me!

Shafts now installed on the Thunder dragon

No RC stuff yet, been messing around with the "big" car. Pulled the oil pan off my MGB to fix a leaky gasket and inspect the rod bearings (common cause of low oil pressure, long before they start making noise). Was pleasantly surprised, until I looked at the camshaft...

That's the #1 exhaust lobe, just behind the counterweight. Or rather, it once was a lobe. Now it's just a slightly taller spot on the cam. And others are nearly as bad. No wonder the silly thing doesn't have any power. I think my wallet just had a heart attack. Guess any RC spending will have to wait a while...

Wish you were local, could use some of your expertise!!!

haha that's why I'm too scared to go digging too much under the bonnet, I really should learn how to check pushrod & tappets

as for oil leaks... If it don't leak, that means it's time to refill the sump!

i've made peace decades ago with these old things marking their territory. Constant flow 'out' from every seal & bushing also means it's harder for dirt to get 'in' (gee Abingdon thought of everything).

Packed the Grasshopper3 in my bag on a trip to the local park today in the hope of getting a quick blast on the small bit of astro they have there to see what that is about. Still learning about how the car works on all these different surfaces. Had long since assumed the grass at the park would be too long/wet/full of dog crap to be any good for running the buggy. How wrong I was! Grass was short and bumpy and mercifully dog crap free, and I had a blast on my first proper run on grass. Full throttle running, and a totally new driving style to get hold of. Mini Pins are awesome, but grip rolling happened a lot. This pretty much sums up the afternoon:

First proper running on grass. Wheelies and grip rolls pretty sums it up

And then ultimately this happened....

Oops. Grip rolling on grass not so good for 25 year old body shell!

Had the big wheeled runners out today lunchbox and wild willy, daughter and I came to the same conclusion, we need more speed. First job after holiday is a motor change for both :D

I bought myself a vintage Wild One and I'm looking forward to it arriving.

I'm expecting a strip down and then to rebuild with bearing and modern electrics to make a half decent runner.

Just had 9 straight days off work, and all I managed to get done was fill, sand and prime my modified Pumpkin shell. Ah well, it'll be properly dried when I get paint on it next weekend.

The wheels seem to fill the arches far better on your Golf than they do on most examples I've seen, even Tamiya's own box art. What have you done? Longer axles? Thicker hexes? Witchcraft?

Well spotted B) Thicker hex's have been fitted, left overs from a TL-01 or a TT-01/E can't exactley remember but they're double the thickness of the standard size.

I stripped down and cleaned a Hot Shot 2 I got on ebay recently. Stuck waiting for parts now. Only the Boomerang and Super Sabre to go before the early 4wd buggy collection is complete.

I was suspecting WITCHCRAFT. Nicely done, much better than Tamiya had done with it. The tire decals are a great addition too. Is there someone on eBay selling all of them or what??

Aren't you in the states?? I might have some bits to donate to the project.

Yes! I'm in PA. As a matter of fact, I do need one MB5 Stabilizer Ball that goes on the end of the front sway bar. Nice collection of spares!

Ah, just replied to your PM before I read this post, thought you were in FLA. ;) I was close, but I bet it isn't as sunny these days in PA. Get me a wish list, we will see what we can sort out.

Decals are from http://mciracing.ca/t/tire-decals

Any white decals are a pita to cut, they are on white backing paper and difficult to see. I had these lying around and are 1/10 scale so don't quite fit the golf tyres as they should. Bit of pulling and bending required to get them round the tyre.

Thanks for that, had only stumbled across their SandBlaster decals, didn't realize the rest were made.
WOW, that Boomer looks sharp and for a minute I really thought it was going to be baby blue, it took me a moment to realize the protective shell cover was blue. I realize that is part of their name, but I have a body here that never came with the blue covering, so, it threw me a moment.

Finished the painting and decaling of my re-re bigwig. The blue is a chunky holographic flip with transparent blue backed with mirror chrome to give that cool old school look and the white's pearl white with a pure white backing with silver underneath to really make it pop.

That is NOT going to hack it, we NEED MORE Photos please, in the daylight so all that "poppin" will be visible, looks real good from this angle.

Unfortunately the moment I put the shell on the sky turned black and the heavens opened. Hopefully I'll get it outside soon so you can bask in the metal flake glory.

I didn't do anything constructive today,but I did do this😉

Seems pretty constructive to me! You need to make sure everything still works and get some fun out of these things. :D
